Chapter 670: Chapter 668 Anti-Host_1

"It seems that Gujin Base is important to the City of Bright Moon, but we won’t surrender it to you. It’s also important to the Peace Party." Yan Jie spoke, as if totally unaffected by the horrific state of his soldiers stationed behind him.

"Then we’ll see if I can seize it." Su Sigui responded indifferently, her expression unreadable. Yan Jie felt a sense of unease welling within him. Ever since he returned from the brink of death, he discovered that his wounds healed much faster than that of other new humans—fatal injuries even to his heart didn’t cause much harm to him.

Of course, Yan Jie had never tested this on his head. He also noticed that the zombies outside seemed to regard him as one of their own. Was this the doing of Tang Ye, the Chairman of the Peace Party, or had he truly become a part of the undead?

Perhaps the ’resting ones’ Su Sigui was referring to were individuals like him. But this did not matter. Since discovering his peculiar body condition, Yan Jie began to fight recklessly, his mind overtaken by a bloodlust that craved killing more and more people. No amount of killing seemed to satisfy him.

Equally, because of this, Yan Jie lost his sense of fear. He saw himself as capable of challenging anyone, including Level 6 New Humans, albeit with some effort. But now, standing face to face with Su Sigui, he realized the huge gap between them—they were not on the same level.

Perhaps she had not tried to kill him, otherwise, Yan Jie wasn’t sure whether he would still be alive.

At the back, Zhou Ranjun and Xu Changchi, both injured New Humans from the City of Bright Moon, managed to hold back some of the enemies, but the rest were still unstoppable, rampaging through the soldiers like they were in an uninhabited zone.

Shortly after, a small figure suddenly sprang out from the base entrance, grabbing a Level 4 New Human, and snapped his neck with a "crack". A Level 5 New Human squinted at this, discovering to his amusement that the figure was a little girl. With a swift movement, he lunged at her.

"Be careful!" Zhou Ranjun warned. But as he spoke, the two collided, their battle stirring up clouds of dust, obscuring the fight.

Chilled flashes of light darted between them, sparking an unpredictable rhythmic pattern. Bright Moon City’s two Level 4 New Humans tried to help, hoping to swiftly subdue the little girl, but as they approached, a scream sliced through the air.

As the dust settled, the situation became clear. One of Bright Moon City’s soldiers stood frozen in place, while the seemingly ordinary girl, now sporting a sturdy, scaled undead claw on her back, was clutching a person—none other than the Level 5 New Human! He was evidently dead, his horrifying wounds leaving no chance of survival. Another Level 4 New Human had half his head ripped off by the young girl; his blood dropped onto the ground with a constant ’drip drip’ sound.

As for Yan Jie, his hand was tightly gripping the handle of a special zombie slaying blade, a fierce light full of determination shone in his eyes. "Mayor Su," he coldly stated, "don’t think I’ll fear you just because you’re a Level 6 New Human. There are others like you! Our chairman, Li Henian, and vice chairman, Tang Fu, are both Level 6 New Humans. Do you think you can take Gujin Base from us without repercussions from our chairman?"

"Then let him come to settle the score." Su Sigui responded indifferently. But at that moment, her gaze turned to the little girl who had killed one of her Level 5 New Humans and a Level 4 New Human—the girl was Liang Hanyang, who was assigned to defend the area.

Su Sigui’s eyes bore into Liang Hanyang, a glint of curiosity flashing through her gaze. She sensed a peculiar aura from her—one that was intriguing!

"Heh, even a host reverser is here. This is interesting."

In the post-apocalyptic world, the process of evolution was quite unpredictable. When reverse life matter began restructuring an organism’s body, various anomalies could occur due to the complexity of genetic programming, resulting in strange occurrences and peculiar reactions.

Take for example, the zombie controllers, the resting ones, and host reversers—people like them were rare entities.

It is well-known that when reverse life matter invades a living organism, it either lies dormant, enhancing the host cells and granting them powerful abilities while maintaining their consciousness, or it immediately triggers a transformation that turns the host into a blood-thirsty zombie, devoid of any rational thought.

With inverse hosts, their bodies are zombified and their brains taken over, but due to certain abnormalities, they’re not entirely subjugated, giving the host a dual existence. Sometimes, they’d behave like bloodthirsty zombies, and sometimes they’d act like normal humans.

But it’s not always the case. Some hosts transform into zombies while retaining their memories, creating a bloodthirsty entity capable of analysis. In some other instances, the zombies would retain the host’s memories, but the host’s consciousness would remain. There are innumerable possible outcomes for the inverse hosts.

In simple terms, they suffer from a form of dissociative identity disorder. They wield the abilities of zombies and partially transform into one. Liang Hanyang falls into the latter category with her body mutating and a scaled undead claw growing on her back. But Su Sigui did not detect a single whiff of humanity from her; it seemed that her body had completely transformed into a zombie, but strangely enough, her outward appearance did not reflect it. The only indication of her state was the undead hand on her back.

Su Sigui had zero tolerance for host reversers. The invasion of reverse life matter into organisms came with pros and cons, but host reversers were undoubtedly a bane. No matter what, the chance of a host reverser retaining their original consciousness was incredibly thin. They were mostly controlled by the zombie, completely devoid of rationale. Nonetheless, they would still consume human flesh, or even plot ways to lead a zombie horde into a survivor’s base. If a host reverser infiltrated human society, who knew the disastrous consequences it would cause.

Many bases in the past fell because of host reversers. Su Sigui had no intention of letting this creature infiltrate the City of Bright Moon. She was ready to make an enemy of the Peace Party now. Liang Hanyang was clearly one of them. If Li Henian was disgruntled, he would most likely allow her to wreak havoc in the City of Bright Moon.

Not only Su Sigui, but many of the powerful figures from her previous life also had zero tolerance for inverse hosts—because they were not human!

"Get out of here. Gujin Base now belongs to the Peace Party. I won’t push it to the brink. Quickly take your people back to Qinshan Base. If you can get your chairman here right now to stop me, go ahead and try. If not, all negotiations are off. Otherwise, I will slaughter every member of the Peace Party who’s here!"

Su Sigui spoke icily, making her way towards Liang Hanyang with a sword in hand. But just then, another voice echoed, equally cold.

"Mayor Su, your chairman has arrived. Now, I would like to see if I can stop you."
