I am the Zombie King of the Apocalyptic World -
Chapter 664 - 662: Returned _1
Chapter 664: Chapter 662: Returned _1
The rushing zombies caused Li Songhua to frown, but it was just a slight frown.
The roar of the military vehicle engine and the screams of the zombies mixed together in a disturbing cacophony. The military vehicle moved swiftly and without hesitation, running over the skull of Chen Chaoyang. The wheels, wide and thick, exploded Chen Chaoyang’s head with a "boom" sound, scattering the white and red brain matter about three meters away. The scene was extremely bloody.
Chen Chaoyang let out a cry in his final moment, not a scream of terror, but rather a pure cry, filled with unwillingness, resentment, and hatred!
His broken body lay in the middle of the road, the few people in the vehicle glanced coldly at the scene. Even though it was bloody, such scenes weren’t uncommon in the Apocalypse; they had seen so many that they were already numb to it.
"Let’s go."
After killing Chen Chaoyang, Li Songhua and Wang Baihai heaved a sigh of relief. With an indifferent tone, they ordered the soldier to turn the vehicle around and head back to the base. The vehicle wheels crushed Chen Chaoyang’s body one more time.
The helicopter in the sky targeted the zombies rushing towards them, raining down fire. In short order, the zombies near them were all killed. They ignored the more distant hordes.
What Li Songhua didn’t notice was a twitching motion from one of Chen Chaoyang’s severed hands. Zombies from a distance rushed over. A level 2 zombie opened its mouth at an unbelievable angle, expelling a vile, putrid smell. Its sharp teeth interlaced with bloody strings made for a monstrous sight.
Seeing that Li Songhua and the others had vanished, this level 2 zombie, along with a few other regular zombies, moved towards Chen Chaoyang’s body. Since Chen Chaoyang hadn’t been dead for long, his flesh was still fresh. Zombies, lacking consciousness, were nevertheless driven to feed.
However, something strange happened. The zombies squatted down in front of Chen Chaoyang’s body, preparing to tear it open, but then they stopped.
Hu Hu Hu~
Dozens of zombies surrounded Chen Chaoyang’s body. Their claws barely touched Chen Chaoyang’s body before retracting. Their noses quivered as they caught the scent of enticing flesh and blood. However, oddly enough, they did not attack but instead appeared confused.
After a while, the horde began to scatter. It seemed as if Chen Chaoyang was not the freshly dead creature they had anticipated.
Unknown to everyone, Chen Chaoyang’s severed arm began to twitch like an earthworm. "Ka Ka Ka", the sound of flesh and blood bursting issued from the arm. After a while, a line of blood spurted out, a gash appearing on the palm of the hand. As time passed, the gap grew larger. The flesh from within began to protrude outward, accumulating the dust from the ground, slowly forming a head that resembled that of a crocodile.
Puh Chi!
Another line of blood spurted out, and above this "crocodile head", a pair of eyes opened, creating a scene too bizarre to describe!
As night fell, the small "crocodile head" opened its mouth, appearing as though it was breathing air, its eyes growing blurry.
"Ah~ ah ah~ ah haha hahaha, ah haha~"
A dull, suppressed laughter echoed under the silent starry sky. It was a laugh resembling a cry, like a cackling demon perched on a tombstone, enough to unnerve anyone. Strangely enough, the tone of this laughter sounded exactly like Chen Chaoyang’s!
In the dark and quiet night, the sound of heavy objects falling one after another rang out.
Bang! Bang! Bang Bang...Clang...
One body after another was thrown onto the street corner, toppling the roadside trash cans and scattering their contents.
Ha ha ha!
Chilling laughter echoed, accompanied by the roars of the zombies. Under the hazed moonlight, a long shadow was cast, that of a figure raising a hand holding another figure.
Ha ha ha!
Bang!
Another body was hurled out, crashing into a pile of corpses. Upon closer inspection, these bodies appeared to be of zombies, each with a mysterious gap in their skulls, now utterly empty.
In the dark night, a pair of amber eyes flashed momentarily. The figure guilty of slaying the zombies dragged his long arm-foot and headed towards Qinshan Base, laughing and crying as he walked, his laughter filled with a dull and suppressed tone.
...
Standing at the entrance of the ruined Lin City Honglin High School, Tang Ye was silent for an extended period.
"Why did you bring me to this place again?"
The disappointment in Tang Ye’s eyes couldn’t be hidden. He thought the red feathered bird was a pet, and its owner intentionally led him here last time. However, it now appeared that the red feathered bird was merely guided by the scent he had left here when he was at Qinshan Base.
Tang Ye looked back, the red feathered bird had disappeared somewhere. It seemed that every time it led him here, it would fly away.
Lin City’s current state was desolate. In his line of sight, there wasn’t a single intact building. All had collapsed or been deformed beyond recognition. The corpses on the street had begun to decompose due to the long passing of time. The wind swept through, scattering the black and white particles it stirred up.
He didn’t leave immediately but started wandering around the ruined city. This was the place where he had struggled half his life. He had once dreamed of making it big overnight to reach the pinnacle of his life, and he had also awakened many mornings accepting the disappointment of reality.
He walked through the once bustling streets, bypassed the pits filled with corpses, and observed the wreckage left behind by people in their moments of despair. However, when Tang Ye arrived at a big shopping mall, what he saw inside left him stunned.
There were bodies everywhere in the mall, probably dead for a year or two. Some skulls had been cut in half, some bodies were missing, and others had been crushed into granules, stuck to the ground like chewed gum.
And on the nearby white wall, there were two lines of scribbled writing.
[Zheng Minghui was here.]
[Shen Mingke was here.]
"Who the hell are these two?"
Tang Ye swept his eyes over the mall filled with bodies, surprised. Although the bodies on the ground were generally of low-level zombies, these two people clearly caused them. Anyone able to unleash such carnage must be quite powerful.
After watching for a while, Tang Ye bypassed the bodies, crossed the plaza, and headed in the direction of his first rental room.
A few minutes later, Tang Ye arrived at the rental room where he lived before the apocalypse. The structure, like other buildings, had partially collapsed. The whole staircase was leaning on the neighbors’ buildings.
Thick dust covered the floor inside the building. Each step stirred up the dust, filling the air. Tang Ye held a piece of cardboard, fanning the dust in front of him. He made his way upstairs and found his old room.
The door was already broken; the hinges were nowhere to be found. Tang Ye twisted the door lock with his hand, and the whole door fell off.
"I’m home."
