Chapter 663: Chapter 661: Memory Backtrack During Pain, Reluctance_1

Boom! Boom! Boom!

From the helicopter above, the mouths of the cannon below fired one laser beam after another. Chen Chaoyang dodged hastily, as explosions erupted behind him, and the shock wave blew down buildings one after another.

"He’s headed towards the quarantine zone!" Captain Hu shouted, a hint of hesitation in his eyes.

"Should we continue the pursuit?" The soldiers below were also hesitant. Chen Chaoyang had already left the base, and beyond the quarantine zone, there would be zombies. Once he entered the swarm, it would be hard to handle him.

"Pursue!" Wang Baihai didn’t hesitate, immediately issuing the order.

Li Songhua glanced at him, his face showing a struggle, before finally regaining his composure. His eyes radiated a cold light.

"It isn’t over until we see his corpse!"

Li Songhua and Wang Baihai both understood that they had killed Chen Huaijiang and Zhao Yi’e. These two were Chen Chaoyang’s relatives. The three were a family. The two had directly caused the destruction of Chen Chaoyang’s family. The feud could only be described as profound and irreconcilable.

Moreover, Chen Chaoyang was a Level 4 New Human. He lived every terrifying day immersed in his desire for revenge. Thinking of Chaoyang’s hate-filled eyes at the base, both Li and Wang involuntarily shivered.

Within the base, many influential men had died at the hands of their enemies, and these feuds were sparked by relatively minor disputes. Those couldn’t even compare to this kind of blood feud.

Now, the two of them feared that if Chen Chaoyang made it back to the Peace Party alive, they would send assassins after them. Moreover, if Chen Chaoyang managed to return, it would be much harder to kill him.

"Yes, sir!"

The soldiers no longer hesitated, raising their guns and chasing in the direction Chen Chaoyang had fled.

Ha ha ha ha!

Chen Chaoyang looked back and laughed at them. His laughter was sickly, his spirit twisted beyond recognition.

Four helicopters behind him kept close track of his position, and the ground-based laser cannons bombarded him relentlessly, leaving the ground riddled with holes.

"Keep chasing! Come here! Ha ha ha... Come get me... Kill me! I’ll kill you all! Li Songhua, Wang Baihai, you two wait! Either you kill me today, or I’ll wipe out your families in the future! Ha ha ha ha!"

As he laughed and ran, his laughter stretched out, growing shrill towards the end. It grated on one’s nerves, and the look on Li Songhua’s face grew increasingly grim.

"He must be killed!"

Li Songhua erupted with all his strength, his mouth opening and closing on his neck, raising the P90 and spraying bullets. Dense laser beams left scorched marks wherever Chen Chaoyang had been, some of them just grazing his body as they passed!

Boom!

A beam of blue light hit the ground less than three meters away from Chen Chaoyang, causing a fiery explosion. The mossy street surface was fissured. He dodged quickly, only to have another blue laser beam come at him from above and hit a trash can not far away.

The trash can was filled with old garbage. As soon as the blue laser touched it, it exploded, sending the unique stench of garbage everywhere. A filthy plastic bag was blown into the air, covering Chen Chaoyang’s face and plunging his world into darkness.

"Damn it!"

He cursed aloud, reaching to tear it off. Just then, another blue laser beam shot in. By the time Chen Chaoyang had managed to remove the plastic bag from his face, his world turned red as a ball of fire detonated right before his eyes!

"Ah!"

With a painful scream, he felt as though his whole body had been doused in boiling water. With great difficulty, he regained his vision, only to feel a throbbing pain across his face. He reached up to swipe at it, his hand coming back bloody.

"Am... am I flying?"

Besides the sensations coursing through his body, he also felt a sense of lightness, as if he was floating in mid-air.

From Li Songhua and the others’ perspective, Chen Chaoyang was not floating. He had been blown into the air and was now flying towards them.

"Kill him!" Li Songhua brightened upon seeing this. Several military vehicles sped forward, heading straight for the airborne Chen Chaoyang!

With a solid "Thud!" Chen Chaoyang, still in mid-air, was sent flying another five or six meters. The nose of the vehicle was caved in from the impact.

Thud! Thud! Thud!...

Chen Chaoyang’s consciousness became hazy, his senses scattered. For a moment, he couldn’t comprehend what was happening. All he could feel was an all-encompassing pain so severe he wished he could die on the spot.

In his blurry vision, he saw Tang Ye, Chen Huaijiang, and Zhao Yi’e.

"Boss, what’s... that’s not right... Dad? You’re still alive? That’s not right... Mom?"

He shook his head vigorously as memories from his past flashed across his mind. Sometimes he was a child, other times he was messing around with his schoolmates.

"That’s not right! None of it is right!"

It took a while for Chen Chaoyang to regain clarity, realize where he was and what he had just experienced. He was being hunted down by Li Songhua!

Ah!

He let out a huge roar, his mind instantly filled with hate! He seemed to have temporarily lost his memory just then, transported back to the time before the Apocalypse. It felt long, but in reality, it was only a moment.

His brief lapse of consciousness and the flashbacks it induced filled him with nostalgia and reluctance. It was a beautiful period, where he had forgotten all he had been through. But that was the past, and now he was an avenger without a home. His desire for revenge seemed bleak; he was about to die!

He looked at his hand and found it missing partway up the arm. The missing part lay not far away, alone on the ground. One of his legs was also gone, with no clue as to where it was. Fresh rotten flesh lay on the ground, parts of it scorched and still smoking. It seemed like these were all parts of his body.

With great difficulty, he propped his body up. Looking back, he saw Li Songhua and the others driving towards him at high speed. They were planning to run him over!

Realizing this, the scent of death began to creep into his heart. But he wasn’t scared. He was only consumed by an indescribable hatred. Rousing this monster of revenge made him fearless in the face of death! All he desired was revenge!

Quick, satisfying revenge!

The wandering zombies nearby were attracted by the commotion and started to congregate. Noticing the situation, they galloped towards Li Songhua, roaring continuously.

An illusion crossed Chen Chaoyang’s mind. Since the Apocalypse began, besides his family, no one had ever helped him; in fact, the zombies... He remembered Tang Ye, the terrifying Zombie King. Tang Ye had helped him return to the safe zone, find Qinshan Base, and reunite with his parents. He had not experienced as much of humanity’s darkness as other survivors had.

It was in his darkest hours that Tang Ye brought him to Qinshan Base, gave him hope, and provided him with the means to seek revenge.

And now, without the Peace Party, the bloodthirsty zombies attacking Li Songhua and his crew seemed to be assisting him. Currently, only these zombies, just like him, were attacking Li Songhua and the others, even though this was somewhat misleading.
