I am the Zombie King of the Apocalyptic World
Chapter 643 - 641: Reunion Night_1

Chapter 643: Chapter 641: Reunion Night_1

As the soldiers moved, the skeletal battlesuits they wore made a deep "thump thump thump" sound as they collided with the ground. The crowd looked on in shock - when had the Rat-Rodders ever seen such armor?

"What the hell is that? It’s so fuckin’ cool!"

"You wouldn’t know since you just arrived. That’s the Rin-Kai First Division Army, responsible for hunting high-level zombies within Yunchuan City."

"You’ll get used to it. It’s not that surprising. Every person admitted into the military has a nano-tech armor."

"Oh, I see."

The returned soldiers emanated an aura of awe-inspiring might, marching with disciplined steps towards the front. The crowd made a way for them with faces full of admiration. But when they saw the striking figure within the Rat-Rodders, their attention was swiftly drawn away.

A soldier who exuded fortitude and determination faltered at the sight of Gong Xiao. His steps became unsteady.

"What are you doing? Keep moving."

The Major General in the front roared, squinting his eyes to look at Gong Xiao. He felt his soul trembling. It was like a boulder crashing into his once tranquil heart, disturbing it with ripples that would not subside. He reluctantly tore his gaze away, only when he was at a distance.

"What a diabolical woman, I better not continue looking."

The Major General shook his head, trying to forget Gong Xiao’s face. The more he tried, the more that face seemed to be branded into his heart, stoking his wild thoughts.

"Alright, everyone, come in."

At this moment, a soldier ran out and called everyone in. He then handed a file of documents to a Lieutenant standing by, who seemed to be verifying identities as he glanced over at the Rat-Rodder crowd.

Tang Ye took a glance and then withdrew his attention, closing his eyes to endure the arid time. He had hardly closed his eyes when something caught his attention. His eyes abruptly fluttered open, staring at the Lieutenant.

"Did I see wrong?" Tang Ye murmured to himself. He had seen a familiar name, but it was blurred.

"Alright, you guys go to the second floor. Look for the 204 Training Hall."

The Lieutenant ordered and then instructed a few soldiers to lead the newcomers out of the building.

The Rat-Rodders went upstairs and entered the room mentioned by the Lieutenant. After a while, he came over with a group of soldiers dressed in white lab coats.

"Who among you is Li Henian? Step forward."

Sitting on a bench and fiddling with his nails, Tang Ye was taken aback. He wondered why he was being called, but he still stepped forward.

"You are Li Henian, correct?"

"Yes," Tang Ye nodded, his gaze focused on the work tag pinned on the Lieutenant’s chest. Upon reading the name, his pupils shrank.

The Lieutenant’s name was Chen Daowei!

He was Qiongli’s husband!

A bright light shone in Tang Ye’s eyes. Despite the astonishing revelation, he asked seriously, "What do you want from me?"

Chen Daowei smiled and said, "Nothing much. I’ve heard that you can transform into a zombie. To be safe, you should hold on to this. Someone will take you for a scan tomorrow. Only if you have this can you get in."

Chen Daowei handed over an identity card to Tang Ye. Tang Ye read the card and then looked at Chen Daowei observantly. After a while, he felt something was off.

Chen Daowei was middle-aged. He wasn’t exactly handsome, but he held a certain allure. If you looked closely, you could see some of the boyish charm he had in his younger days. Yet, for some reason, upon careful inspection, Tang Ye thought Chen Daowei looked somewhat like he did.

He scoffed inwardly at his observations. After all, there were so many people in the world; it was to be expected that some might bear a resemblance to each other.

"Okay."

Tang Ye accepted the card and watched Chen Daowei’s retreating figure. He opened his mouth and a mass of flesh slowly emerged from his tongue, forming into a small ball. The flesh ball detached from the tongue and sprouted a pair of wings, flying towards Chen Daowei. It landed on his shoulder and snuck beneath his clothes.

"Alright, you can go in now."

A soldier by the side reminded Tang Ye. As Tang Ye looked at him, a slender and beautiful hand rested on his shoulder. The soldier turned to see an astonishingly beautiful face. Stunned, he lost sight of Tang Ye by the time he returned to his senses.

...

"Can you check me out early today?"

"Off work already?"

"Yeah, I want to buy some meat. It’s New Year’s today, ha ha ha."

Chen Daowei arrived at a counter where a man in a suit chatted with him about everyday life. Admiration was evident in the man’s eyes.

"Here, this is your pay for today, and you don’t have to buy meat. I’ve got this too."

The man in the suit handed over a cleaned chicken with a laugh. Chen Daowei thanked him and accepted it.

"Thank you."

"No need for thanks. Everyone gets a chicken today to celebrate the New Year."

The man in the suit looked at Chen Daowei with mixed feelings.

"You’re very lucky. You have a wife and a warm family. You all get to celebrate New Year’s together happily. Me...sigh."

Chen Daowei patted his shoulder and comforted, "Things will get better. I should be going."

"Okay." He picked up several coins from the counter, his face radiant with joy, and headed out of the building towards the street.

After passing through the industrial zone and winding through several alleyways, he took off his army uniform and entered the residential building. Standing at his front door, a smile played on his face as he gently unlocked the door.

"Honey, I’m home."

He hung his uniform on the coat rack. Within the kitchen, Qiongli responded with acknowledgment before carrying a plate of freshly cooked food out. She was as tough as a man when confronting the world, but at home, she was a gentle and loving wife. Her eyes radiated happiness as she gazed at the man in front of her.

She neatly folded his clothes and put them away diligently. Chen Daowei, with hands folded behind his back, was brimming with happiness.

"I’ve got a surprise for you."

"What surprise?" Qiongli asked with an amused smile.

"Ta-da."

He showed her the chicken, at which she cried out in delight and was then wrapped in Chen Daowei’s embrace.

"Daddy is home!"

A little boy ran out and hugged his leg. Chen Daowei gently ruffled his hair, his face beaming brightly with joy.

Qiongli broke free from Chen Daowei’s embrace, with a puzzled look she asked, "Xiao’er, where’s your sister?"

The boy named Chen Xiao looked back and said, "Sis won’t come out."

Qiongli walked into the room and saw Nannan sitting on the floor listlessly playing with her Ultraman toy.

"Little Darling, what’s the matter? Feeling down? Come on, let’s go out and see your dad."

She picked up Nannan. Nannan gave her a glance and muttered, "He’s not my dad... my dad is not him..."

Saying this, moisture welled up in Nannan’s eyes. At that moment, Chen Daowei walked in and picked up Chen Xiao with one arm, while he extended his other arm to hold Nannan.

"Ah, I’m your dad too."

Bouncing the two children, Chen Daowei caused Chen Xiao to burst into laughter. The sounds of their merriment filled the air, but Nannan stayed motionless, her eyes welling up with more and more tears.

Seeing this, Chen Daowei felt his heart dropping and quickly said, "What’s wrong? Don’t you like this? I’ll stop bouncing then."

He thought his words would comfort her and stop her sadness, but to his surprise, Nannan cried out in tears. Scratching his head, unsure of what to do, he suddenly turned to look at Qiongli.

"We seem to have forgotten to give her a name, didn’t we?"
