Chapter 642: Chapter 640: Worldview Correction Training_1
After recording everyone’s names with flushed faces, two soldiers led the group to the base’s gates under the watchful eyes of other soldiers.
Oddly enough, they were not marching as if they were protected, rather they seemed to form two lines surrounding the group, this gave off the impression of them being wary. But what were they being wary of?
Everyone filed into the anti-life detector one by one. The continuous flashing of the red light indicated that none among Tang Ye’s group were infected. The sight of the clean streets and buildings within the base, which seemed no different from before the Apocalypse, was a relief. The base was enormous with perfect order maintained and plenty of resources to ensuring their survival. To them, this place was a paradise. Yet, the pressure in their hearts couldn’t help but grow, as they constantly felt out of place and worried about being rejected.
Still, Chenyang 169 Base had no strict criteria for newcomers. The people bustling about the streets looked at them curiously because unfamiliar faces were rarely seen.
"Don’t wander off, we’ll first guide you around the base."
A soldier waved and called back those who wanted to explore other places, speaking in a gentle voice.
Thus, the whole group was led around the base, much like a group of elementary school students on a field trip.
"Look over there, this is the agricultural area. Food for the base is grown on these lands. However, we also need workers here. It’s a daily wage job. You’ll get 0.5 Yajin per day. You may not know what Yajin is, but don’t worry, you’ll understand in the future."
A non-commissioned officer pointed towards the wide-open fields and spoke. The crops swayed in the wind. Survivors dressed in winter clothes were busy working under the golden glow. No one could see the edge of the sprawling farmlands. People noticed several ten-meter iron poles standing in the distance, each topped with a large "balloon" that was illuminating the surroundings, lending warmth even from afar.
Many farmers rested or warmed themselves at the base of these towers.
According to the soldiers, these towers were known as "light warmers". They provided light for photosynthesis and warmth for people. They ensured crops could be grown all year round, regardless of winter weather.
"Beyond that is the industrial area. Food, weapons, and daily necessities are manufactured and processed there."
"Over there are the guards. If any of you new humans want to join, you’ll earn a higher wage."
As they came to understand each job, Tang Ye couldn’t help but marvel. The base had the foundational structures of a society. If no accident happens, it could potentially become a place for the restart of human civilization.
After the tour of the base, everyone was stunned, their eyes filled with wild joy! This place was almost identical to the society from before the Apocalypse. Jobs were available and food was provided. That was the dream of many!
That was all they needed!
After a quick tour, the group was back at the gates of the base. They weren’t allowed to roam freely yet. Many people were eagerly awaiting the announcement from the officer, hoping to quickly find work and eat their fill.
But would things be that simple?
"Alright everyone, you are new here. Chenyang 169 Base is welcoming you. I know you are all full of hope for the future, but don’t rush. Because of certain reasons, we will need to train you for three months."
"What? Training, for three months? What are you going to train us for?"
"Exactly, three months? I can’t stand it."
Upon hearing this, the crowd exploded. Training? For three months? They didn’t want to stay here for even a second longer. They just wanted to earn Yajin and live a comfortable life.
"Brother Nian, what do we do? Three months!"
Chen Zhouquan snuck up to Tang Ye and whispered.
"What’s the hurry, let’s hear them out first."
Tang Ye didn’t rush. He looked up at the officer standing on the stone steps. The officer was smiling, clearly used to such reactions.
"Alright, alright, calm down, let me finish."
The soldiers made a calming gesture with both hands. The crowd fell silent. One by one, they glared at the soldier, who calmly continued his explanation.
At the start of the Apocalypse, there wasn’t a concept of training in Chenyang 169 Base. But as time went on, the survivors who had spent too much time outside the base had experienced too much darkness. Their mental states are no longer normal, and their worldviews have twisted and become inhumane.
Even if they entered an orderly survivor base, there was no guarantee they wouldn’t cause trouble. For this reason, whenever survivors who had lived outside for two years or more wanted to join the base, they would be given psychological counselling to correct their distorted worldviews.
According to experts, among every ten psychologically distorted survivors, eight weren’t aware of their condition. In their subconscious, they felt that killing wasn’t a big deal, unaware that Chenyang 169 Base prohibited murder!
These kinds of worldviews were very dangerous in the base, which is why there was a need for training. And three months was not the training period, but an average. It took about three months for twisted survivors to return to normal, but those who had post-traumatic stress disorder required an even longer time!
Having found the soldier’s explanation reasonable, the crowd showed no resistance. They followed the soldiers deeper into the base.
"Brother Henian, have Aunt Qiongli and the others made it here?" Bai Xinran walked next to Tang Ye, asking worriedly.
"I’m not sure, but the 46th Division soldiers were also headed here. Don’t worry, we’ll find out if they’re here. If they’re not, you should stay here while I go look for them," replied Tang Ye, who was also worried for Nannan. He was afraid that Qiongli hadn’t arrived at the Chenyang 169 Base. Looking at the Humanities Building in front of him, he saw members of the biker gang lining up to enter.
"Your temporary ID?"
"Oh, it’s right here."
One of the gang members handed his newly issued temporary ID to the guards at the door. With a heart full of curiosity, he entered the building. Tang Ye counted a couple of dozens more before his turn, and behind his group were many more soldiers. Their official duty was to prevent mentally disturbed survivors from suddenly causing harm. After all, among the crowd, there were two level 4 new humans who, if they attacked anyone, would be tough to handle.
However, the reality was not so. It was because Gong Xiao was standing at the back. The soldiers behind her seemed infatuated, gazing at her graceful figure and their gazes occasionally filled with admiration.
At that moment, military vehicles passed by, carrying corpses of high-level zombies, each with a hole in their heads.
They were followed by several hundred soldiers in armor, their weapons gleaming and radiating an intimidating aura!
