Chapter 633: Chapter 631 Gong Xiao_1

Upon hearing Tang Ye’s words, Gong Xiao squinted her eyes, revealing a puzzled expression.

"What are you talking about, intelligent zombie? I know we are called zombies, but what is an intelligent zombie? I’ve only heard of Level 1 and Level 2 zombies and such. But, I suppose I must be masquerading as a human, right..."

Seeing Gong Xiao react this way, Tang Ye frowned. From the look of her, it seemed as if she was clueless about the term ’intelligent zombie’.

"You and I are intelligent zombies," Tang Ye said, studying her expression to spot any inconsistencies. But Gong Xiao raised a finger to point at herself, then at him, her face still confused.

"Intelligent zombies?"

Seeing her like this, Tang Ye suddenly reached out, but instead of grabbing her neck, he jerked at the skin on her body and ripped off the human skin she was wearing!

In an instant, Gong Xiao’s true form was revealed. She screamed and hurriedly covered her face with her hands.

"You... how could you do this? Why? I’m ugly, don’t look at me! Ahhh!!"

Gong Xiao appeared to be in a frenzy, one hand covering her face, the other waving wildly, trying to drive Tang Ye away.

After the human skin was torn from her body, Tang Ye saw appendages on her back, six in total, neatly arranged three by each side. As Tang Ye fully removed her human skin, Gong Xiao’s blade-like appendages unfolded like wings.

They looked exactly like the appendage knife Xu Haishui had picked up when the Shiwuguan Base was moving, which indicated that Gong Xiao was from Lin city.

As for why she was like this, Tang Ye didn’t know. But suddenly he thought of Xu Haishui.

Xu was also an intelligent zombie, but unlike Tang Ye, who retained his human memories perfectly after turning into a zombie, Xu Haishui appeared not to be an intelligent zombie at first. He ate an Evolution Crystal of a Conqueror Zombie and got its memories, becoming addicted and uncontrollable ever since.

Only after consuming several more evolution crystals of Conqueror Zombies did Xu Haishui attain the wisdom of humans. You could say that Xu Haishui’s wisdom came from fragmented memories of several individuals.

Gong Xiao was the second intelligent zombie Tang Ye had encountered. If Tang Ye is considered an exception, then it’s very possible that the other intelligent zombies in the world don’t retain their complete memories from when they were human!

Therefore, Tang Ye guessed that the reason for Gong Xiao’s intelligence was different from his.

Right after she revealed her true form, Tang Ye couldn’t see her face. Nonetheless, the real look of a zombie was never pleasant to humans, Tang Ye didn’t know why Gong Xiao was so self-conscious about her appearance.

A zombie’s appearance would never appeal to humans, everyone would run as far as possible upon seeing one!

Gong Xiao curled herself up, making hoarse and unpleasant sounds, her voice sometimes changing to a pleasant female tone.

Parts of her skin were white and other parts were bluish-gray or iron blue. Curved patterns popped out from her bosom and back, interweaving to form patterns.

Tang Ye didn’t care why she was afraid of others seeing her true form; he was now interested in how she became an intelligent zombie.

"You used to be human, do you remember?"

"Huh? I used to be a human? No, no, I’m not a human..."

Gong Xiao covered her face, crying heartbreakingly, until Tang Ye threw the human skin he was holding onto her head, covering her face before she stopped crying.

"You weren’t human before, but do you know where zombies come from? They’re transformed humans." Tang Ye said peculiarly, which seemed to confuse Gong Xiao even more.

"I..."

"You don’t have human memories."

"Human memories? What are memories? I don’t know, I remember that after I was born, I’ve been living inside a house..."

Gong Xiao scratched her head, messing up her hair which looked like withered branches.

Time rewinds to four years ago, the eleventh day after the post-apocalyptic outbreak.

In a room inside Changfu Mansion, it was a complete mess. Papers were scattered on the floor and a wardrobe leaning against the wall had collapsed. Gong Xiao opened her eyes to see a white ceiling.

She was laying in the wardrobe, not knowing who she was or what her name was. Subconsciously, she could read human letters. A poster of a celebrity on the wall caught her attention. She recognized the celebrity and understood the autographs, but she didn’t know why she understood these characters.

"Where am I?"

She murmured, her voice raspy as if a cassette was being scratched. Lying within the wardrobe like in a coffin, she raised her arm to see the rotting, flaking flesh.

The voice she heard, and the abnormalities on her body didn’t seem odd to her. She climbed out of the wardrobe and moved silently out without knowing where to go.

Even though her mind was filled with words, she didn’t fully understand most of them. Despite stumbling upon many items which she knew the names of, her mind was a complete blank, like a newborn with rich experiences.

Under the dim weather, she left the mansion. Glancing down, she noticed a bloody hole on her chest. There were strange creatures staggering on the streets. Seeing her, they didn’t appear surprised.

She realized that these strange things seemed to be her kin.

"Hey, do you know who I am?"

"Hey, do you know..."

She repeated the same question over and over to her kin, but they would only respond with a "huh huh" sound and then leave.

Watching zombies shuffle along the streets, Gong Xiao felt like this place used to be inhabited by a different species long ago. However, she didn’t know what those creatures were.

Living in a daze for days, she tried to talk to her kin countless times, but her kin didn’t make the same sounds as she did. The sound she was making seemed to have a name—talking.

Gradually, she grew bored and annoyed. She started to feel lonely and disliked being unable to talk to her kin. She needed a kin who could talk just like her.

Finally, one day, she encountered a group of creatures that had the same shape as her kin. She thought they were her kin, and they could talk just like her.

She was overjoyed and rushed forward to approach them. Suddenly, from deep within her soul, an urge to resist rose up. Her subconscious kept warning her that these creatures were dangerous. She must not approach them!

They seemed to be called humans...

Soon, they were discovered by other creatures. Gong Xiao saw hordes of her kin rushing towards them, appearing to warmly welcome them.

Overcoming the strange resistance in her heart, she also joined them. However, her kin weren’t giving them a warm welcome; instead, they threw them to the ground and furiously bit their bodies, tearing off their limbs, and started eating furiously!

A different subconscious mind was telling her that these creatures weren’t her kin, but food!
