Chapter 569: Chapter 566 Paradise 2_1

After a round of gunfire, it was clear that the mysterious Survivor Forces had some experts among them. The motor gangs suffered heavy casualties in just a short gunfight, with countless motorcycles tumbling off the cliff. The men on these bikes were instantly reduced to a bloody mess, pronounced dead on the spot. Their bodies exploded upon crashing to the ground, charring the remnants of the motor gangs’ bodies lying around their camp.

The remaining bike riders tried to escape. However, a flaming cannonball flew out from the survivors’ side, instantly knocking them off their bikes and spilling blood everywhere.

"Rocket launcher!"

Qiongli was stunned – what kind of survivors would have a rocket launcher?

Tang Ye was also squinting at the people on the opposing side. That they possessed such heavy weaponry and were using it freely against the motor gangs, without conserving their ammunition, indicated they were no ordinary survivor group.

The surprising part was that they didn’t attack him and his party and even seemed to be protecting them. But in the post-apocalyptic world, being mysteriously protected by someone isn’t necessarily a good thing.

They fired four or five rockets until all the motor gang members were annihilated. Then, the survivors on the slope stopped their onslaught. They parked the vehicle, from which a group of survivors dressed like drifters, but fully armed, disembarked.

Sixteen people in all began walking slowly down the slope towards them. Among them, one individual seemed unperturbed by the terrain, obviously a Level 2 New Human. Tang Ye’s senses told him that besides this individual, there were three Level 1 New Humans following behind and another Level 2 New Human and six Level 1 New Humans sitting in their vehicle, the rest were normal humans.

As the unknown group approached, Qiongli called out to her party and got out of the car to greet them. Tang Ye chose to stay in the car, observing the crowd from there.

Qiongli intended to greet them because they had just saved their lives, temporarily confirming that they were not enemies, and therefore, could be talked to.

Meanwhile, Tang Ye did not consider them a potential threat. Because of his attitude, Lin Junhong and Ma Zhen also didn’t pay much attention to the people who had approached. They knew Tang Ye was very capable. His speed when the zombie horde was chasing them convinced both of them that in this world, Tang Ye was invincible.

"Hey!"

The first to approach was the firm-faced Level 2 New Human. Once he was standing in front of Qiongli, he politely greeted her.

"Hey, hello."

Qiongli looked at the man with suspicion. It’s hastily assumed to be ill-intentioned when a stranger acts so polite in the apocalypse. It would be overly naive to simply assume they had genuine, pure intentions.

"Are you all okay?"

"Ah! Yeah, we’re fine. And you all are...?"

"Oh, my name is Xu Chengsheng."

The man was very polite, greeting her courteously, but this made Qiongli even more cautious.

"What are you guys after?"

Xu Chengsheng looked taken aback, glanced back at the people behind him, and turned back to Qiongli, answering in disbelief, "Well... we... aren’t after anything specific, we..."

"Hey, what’s with this foreign woman, didn’t you see we just saved you guys? If it wasn’t for us, you and your group would have been killed by those motor dogs by now!"

Before he could finish, a few young men behind him complained discontentedly. From their expressions, it seemed like they genuinely saved Qiongli and the rest of her group.

Qiongli was at a loss for words. Living in a post-apocalyptic world had made her very suspicious of strangers. She glanced over at Tang Ye, who seemed to be observing the show without involving himself.

Tang Ye had been observing them from the shadows. These people were different from the survivors he had encountered before. After killing all the motorcycle gang members, they hung their guns behind their backs and showed no tension towards Qiongli’s team.

"Who are these people?" Tang Ye muttered in his mind. He got a strong sense of righteousness from these people – something that seemed to have disappeared from the post-apocalypse world. However, it was strange for such a group to show up at this time.

The first thing on his mind was: if they really had saved them, what was their reason for doing so in this apocalyptic world where everyone was out for themselves?

Was it really out of some so-called sense of justice? Unlikely. Such people might exist in movies, but not in the real apocalyptic world.

Xu Chengsheng raised his hand to quiet the young men down, then continued in a slightly apologetic manner to Qiongli, "Sorry about that. Those youngsters are all a bit short-tempered. Please, pay no mind to them. By the way, where are you folks headed?"

Seeing the man continue to act polite, Qiongli softened her attitude, albeit still embarrassed. "We want to go to Yunchuan City..."

"You guys are heading to Yunchuan City... That’s not a good idea!"

Upon hearing their destination, Xu Chengsheng’s brow furrowed, and after a moment of hesitation, he advised Qiongli against going to Yunchuan City.

His comment made Qiongli take a step back and glance over her shoulder at Tang Ye, who still looked lax and careless. She could not help but shake her head and was even more careful with how she spoke to Xu Chengsheng.

"Why not?"

Seeing Qiongli’s vigilance, Xu Chengsheng forced a laugh, "You guys don’t need to be so nervous. We’re not bad people. As for why you shouldn’t go to Yunchuan City, I bet you already have an idea, given the trouble you ran into on your way here. Right now, the zombies of G Province are all rioting. No matter which way you take, you’ll be unable to avoid them."

Qiongli frowned, not fully in buying into Xu Chengsheng’s words. ’We are not bad people’, she thought, who knew what they were actually thinking.

"What do you mean by ’riot’?"

Despite her doubts, Qiongli still asked. The horde of zombies they’d encountered in the previous city was quite unusual, and Tang Ye’s previous comments sparked a suspicion in her, but she wasn’t sure if it was true.

"I’m not quite certain what’s going on, but starting half a month ago, we’ve suffered multiple series of zombie attacks. Upon examination, we learned that these zombies are now capable of locating our settlements. Currently, all of the zombies from the northeastern region near Yanxin City have become like this. Many survivor bases have already fallen."

Qiongli lowered her gaze, seemingly deep in thought. Xu Chengsheng saw that it was getting dark, and added, "It’s going to be dangerous outside at night. You should come and rest with us."

"No, we’d better not."

Qiongli immediately rejected the invitation. Xu Chengsheng’s expression darkened. "No, this is for your own safety!"

Qiongli’s expression also hardened. It seemed as though they were gearing up for a fight. She was now completely certain that these survivors meant them harm.

Just as Qiongli was about to have her group retreat, Tang Ye spoke up.

"Alright then, we’ll go and rest for a while at your place."

Qiongli looked at Tang Ye, confusion in her eyes, but Tang Ye just gave her a look that told her to keep calm.

"Alright, follow us. You don’t have to worry – we’ll ensure your safety on the way."
