Chapter 459: 453, Fish Dies and Net Breaks (First Update)_1

Monkey drove while sensing the violent aura of the teenager beside him. It felt like if he said the wrong thing, the other party might really shoot him, such was the deep impression the sniper rifle had left, not to mention the ruthlessness with which the youth had killed two people just moments ago, which was enough to instill fear even in someone like Monkey.

"Don’t worry, we will definitely bring Yang Xi back to the country. If she misses the deadline, I’ll stay in the U.S. to protect her," Monkey said without getting angry. In fact, he was well aware that Ren He’s decision was probably the only option at this moment. Monkey himself admitted he didn’t have the ability to hold off the National Security Agency.

At this moment, Monkey had to admit that this 17-year-old was indeed stronger than himself!

Here he was, an operative on the national payroll, yet he needed an ordinary teenager to cover for him, simply because the other party wanted to fight for a way out for his lover. Monkey felt uneasy about it.

Ren He stopped talking and sat in calm anticipation, his gun ready. Even now, he couldn’t fully trust Monkey and his team, but time was running out for him.

Now was the moment!

Ren He suddenly opened the car door and jumped out while the vehicle was still speeding, with the sniper rifle strapped to his back. Since his identity had been exposed, there was no point in hiding any longer. Monkey, taken aback, had wanted to tell him to give a warning if he needed to jump so he could slow down or something, but Ren He clearly didn’t consider his side of things—he just jumped!

The cars behind were startled to see Ren He with a sniper rifle jumping out. They thought he was planning to escape via another route. Ren He dared to jump, but they did not.

As Ren He had predicted, the enemies were indeed more interested in him than anyone else. The identity of the sniper had troubled them for a long time—someone like him running around in the U.S. would keep many people from sleeping easy!

The NSA vehicle came to a sudden stop, and the passenger in the front seat opened the door during Ren He’s rolling maneuver, intending to get out and capture him. However, Ren He only rolled twice before propping himself up on one knee, lifting his rifle. The shocked operative who had been about to exit the vehicle was met with Ren He’s indifferent face and the dark muzzle of his gun.

Pop! A bullet went through the gap between the door and the car, hitting the agent’s chest. These people wore black suits with no bulletproof vests underneath, and a blossom of blood spread on his chest as he was killed instantly by the shot.

The car was bulletproof, leaving Ren He with no way to harm those inside, but now that he had jumped out, the enemy couldn’t stay in the car either. That moment, luring them out, was his best opportunity to shoot.

Landing and dissipating the force was second nature to Ren He; others might not dare to jump from a moving vehicle like that, but Ren He dared!

At this point, the people in the NSA vehicle were stunned. They had always known the sniper was extremely skilled, but they thought that was only at long distances. Now, seeing Ren He’s roll, recovery, and immediate shot, taking out a teammate at the perfect moment, they were astounded.

They could feel the intense, icy killing intent in the teenager’s eyes. In that moment, the others were even hesitant to leave the vehicle, as if stepping out from the protection of their bulletproof ride guaranteed death.

Ren He didn’t linger for a fight; he got up and ran.

He couldn’t afford to worry about others now; his primary concern was himself. The entire attention of the NSA was on him. How long could a man rely on his two legs to run? He wasn’t invincible!

In the moment of hesitation aboard the NSA vehicle, Ren He turned and ran towards another alley behind him. The shot he had just fired wasn’t superfluous; it was to intimidate them enough to buy himself more time.

And Monkey, he was sure, hadn’t run far either. The longer he could delay them, the safer the other man would be.

Ren He wasn’t trying to buy time for Monkey, but for Yang Xi.

He sprinted rapidly between buildings, traversing areas difficult for vehicles to navigate. In the past few days, he had feverishly studied the streets of New York on satellite maps, just in case a situation like this ever arose.

Others might not remember the complex transportation system of the vast city that is New York, but Ren He could.

It was as if Ren He were back on that night red as blood, all the frenzied elements in his blood igniting once again.

The game seemed to start anew, with New York as the enormous chessboard. But on this chessboard there were no generals, no chariots, no cannons—only a lone pawn like Ren He on the run, chased by sinister forces.

He was alone, with no one left to help him.

At this moment, agents from the National Security Agency scattered throughout New York were probably rushing over from the vicinity of the Juilliard School of Music, while Ren He ran the opposite direction to avoid falling into their trap.

It was 10 o’clock at night. Numerous New Yorkers saw a young man carrying a sniper rifle desperately sprinting through the streets, his path continuously tracked by the NSA, who were astounded to discover one thing: they couldn’t catch up!

Despite their numbers and their cars, they just couldn’t catch up with him!

The commander at the rear frowned and said into the radio, "Team A, drive ahead and block his path from the front."

Two black vehicles instantly cut through the convoy, their engines roaring like monstrous beasts ready to devour their prey.

Ren He knew all too well that simply running was no solution. His previous gamble had been his own life, seeing if he could find a way out before everyone from the opposing side caught up.

His mad dash was not without purpose; he was steadily moving closer to the seaside. New York, being one of America’s largest ports, Ren He figured if he risked his life and plunged into the sea, his physical strength and swimming ability would certainly allow him to get away. There was even a chance he could find an opportunity to cling to a cruise ship; no matter where it was headed, getting out of the United States was always good.

And even if there were no cruise ships available, Ren He was prepared to eat raw fish and rely on his extraordinary survival skills to swim all the way back to China.

No matter how difficult, there is always a glimmer of hope!

However, as he was getting close to the seaside, Ren He, who was weaving through alleys, suddenly heard the roaring engines surpassing his route and speeding ahead.

It couldn’t be anyone else, it had to be the National Security Agency setting up a blockade ahead. If they sealed off the road, how could he possibly break through the firepower blockade of more than a dozen men on open ground by himself?

In an instant, a trace of bewilderment flashed through Ren He’s heart. Hope had been cut off, and his plan to escape to the sea lay in ruins... Was he really destined to be trapped alone in this bustling city of dreams?

The small pawn on the chessboard was deeply encircled, caught in a web from which it seemed impossible to escape.

Nonetheless, Ren He’s eyes slowly became resolute and fierce. He reached back and touched the cold sniper rifle, thinking that a fight to the death might not be out of the question.

...

Time for a meal.
