Chapter 437: 431. Yang Xi’s MV Concept (Second Update)_1
After challenging Dawn Wall, TK reissued a lucrative contract to Knight, which had led many to speculate whether Knight would retire from challenges altogether.
After all, the competitive world had seen many greats quickly retire after obtaining enough fame, money, and reputation.
They were worried that their reputation might plummet following future losses, which would be followed by the infamy of failure and a drastic decline in financial income.
So, people also worried, with money, will Knight change?
It seems to be an eternal question: will men become bad when they have money? Will athletes become complacent? Will the proletariat become another capitalist with money?
Money seems to be the original sin that leads things to go awry.
Then Ren He answered with a famous quote from Mr. Lu Xun from his previous life: I hope the youth of the world can shake off their cynicism and simply strive upward, paying no mind to those who have given up on themselves. Those who can do, do; those who can speak, speak. If you have a bit of warmth, share a bit of light. Like a firefly, one can also shine a little in the darkness, without waiting for a torch.
See you at the next intersection!
However, with no movement from Knight for such a long time, everyone was getting anxious. Didn’t he say, "See you at the next intersection"? Why had he suddenly disappeared?
In fact, it had been less than three months, but people were still a bit worried.
Until now, Knight’s words are displayed daily on the header of TK’s official webpage, and TK seems to have adopted them as their philosophy.
Just as everyone was becoming incredibly anxious, Knight finally made a new move, so stay tuned!
Knight’s fans suddenly felt that they absolutely loved these four words, because whenever they saw "stay tuned," they knew that Knight’s journey of challenge had begun anew!
It finally started! But what would it be this time? It seems Knight had never challenged downhill mountain biking before, only road bike downhill. Indeed, the difficulty of downhill mountain biking is known to be higher.
However, precisely because of its higher difficulty and risk factor, not many have ventured to take on this challenge to date, and no recognized first-mover has emerged.
Considering Knight’s expertise in cycling, many seriously suspected that Knight would challenge this field once again.
Yet, there were also differing opinions, pointing out that Knight’s current approach is clearly about making wild leaps across different fields. He would probably play downhill mountain biking only after conquering other disciplines and claiming their numero uno positions.
Ren He wasn’t paying attention to any of this. Challenges were his own business, and he would follow his heart, tackling whatever he most felt like playing at the moment!
Furthermore, Ren He hadn’t seen Yang Xi for a month by now, and still, every evening, he would punctually visit her apartment next door to listen to her practice piano. Life couldn’t be more leisurely. The two of them relished the feeling of reuniting after a short separation, wishing they could stick together all day long.
But that was no longer possible.
When he returned to teaching at the Juilliard School of Music, he was observant of everyone’s reactions. He wanted to see if his exposure in his home country had really not affected this place, but indeed, no one was giving him any extra attention.
Only a few teachers at Juilliard knew his real name, and now everyone called him anything, having almost forgotten the tongue-twisting original Chinese name.
First, because they didn’t recognize Chinese, and second, because Ren He’s appearance in the United States was always in the form of English letters. This language barrier put yet another protective layer around Ren He.
Now, Yang Xi’s identity was anything but ordinary, and the pair who used to go grocery shopping, buy snacks, and pick up daily necessities together like a married couple could no longer do so.
Now, walking through the supermarket, Yang Xi could easily be recognized, she truly became a household name.
With ten songs that each held a vast audience, a month had passed and they still stood strong in the top 10 of the charts.
This kind of fame was no different from that of a domestic superstar diva, drawing the same level of attention, which meant that unless she was at home or at the Juilliard School of Music, she had to wear sunglasses and a mask.
Yang Xi didn’t care too much about appearances; to her, singing and life itself were far more important than fame and fortune, so her disguises were quite whimsical.
This suddenly reminded Ren He of Leonardo from his past life...
However, not even a week had passed since Ren He arrived in New York when he suddenly received a call from Liu Erbao, "Bro, we just landed at New York airport, where you at?!"
Taken aback by the call, Ren He froze, "What the heck?"
"Hahaha, surprised? We’re in New York, and we’ve brought the gear! Just waiting to shoot your video, and while we’re at it, we might as well enjoy life in the U.S., since we’ve never really had fun here," Erbao joyfully yelled over the phone.
Ren He was a bit dumbfounded. While it was true he planned to continue challenging himself, the custom gear wasn’t even finished yet. It usually takes at least two months to prepare, and even a tailor-made suit requires over 20 days, let alone such specialized equipment.
And there he was, completely unprepared, receiving a call from Liu Erbao, who had apparently come to surprise him without so much as a hint...
Ren He couldn’t help but laugh and cry at the same time, "Why did you come so early? Wait, I’m on my way to pick you guys up."
Erbao had come to the U.S. quite a few times, mainly for international business, but it was his first time in New York. The early arrival was partly because he was tired of being shadowed by journalists back home, and coming to the U.S. gave him the chance to have a few drinks with Ren He; after all, Ren He always claimed he was utterly bored in the States.
And bored Ren He truly was. He didn’t have to go to Columbia University unless there was something to do, and he always had Richard covering for him. At the Juilliard School of Music, there was at most one class per day, four classes a week at most.
After all, music relies more on practice and talent. Ren He’s job was to impart his theoretical knowledge, then examine the students’ weekly practice outcomes and make corrections where necessary.
But Erbao’s early arrival was a bit too soon...
The group of Drunkards, having nothing better to do in New York, would surely drag him out to drink every day. Though Ren He could hold his liquor thanks to his physique, he couldn’t handle these Drunkards pouring drinks down his throat every day, and he couldn’t refuse them either.
Suddenly Ren He felt that the journalists back home who constantly followed Liu Erbao and the others were actually saving him from daily alcohol poisoning...
He absolutely had to find something for them to do... But what?
Wait, couldn’t he have them shoot the music video for Yang Xi’s new song? They had the equipment and the time, and why waste the opportunity? Besides, he had some excellent creative ideas in mind!
...
