Chapter 625: Under attack

"Damn it, how much longer do we have to wait?" Elena questioned in annoyance, her patience nearly at an end.

Nadia let out a sigh. "As much as I’d like to tell you to calm down, I’d have to admit that I’m almost at my wit’s end as well."

Victoria maintained silence, her attention focused elsewhere as she sat across from the other two in one of the three bedrooms in the lodge they currently occupied.

"Then let’s do something."

"Don’t let your frustrations cloud your judgment, forcing you to forget that we are ill-equipped to wander Henos, especially when it is currently being swept up by war." Victoria calmly warned before returning to silence.

"So what?... We should keep on waiting?... Our supplies are almost exhausted and we don’t even know if Alex is coming to get us."

"He will come." Victoria calmly remarked with Elena quickly firing back.

"How can you be so sure?"

"I can sense him."

Nadia frowned. "When we first arrived, you said you couldn’t sense anything."

"That was indeed the case, but that has changed since two days ago," Victoria replied. "I can perceive the Dark Lord once again and what’s more, his presence seems to be growing closer."

"And you didn’t feel the need to let us know?" Nadia questioned harshly with Victoria sparing a glance in her direction.

"There was no need."

"Ugh." Rolling her eyes, Nadia glanced at Elena. "Can you take us to him?"

"You think if I could, I’d still be lying down?" Elena fired back. "Alex is one of the few people my targeted teleportation doesn’t work on. Whatever he has makes it impossible for my dust to remain on him, so unless I’m constantly with him, my dust doesn’t stay long on his body."

"So what now?" Nadia inquired with Victoria replying from the side.

"Like I said before, we wait. The reason we are here is to meet with the master. Moving around right now could make it difficult for him to come and retrieve us."

Elena snorted. "You don’t have to make us sound completely helpless."

"That is hardly my intention."

Nadia was about to speak up only for a minor rumble to occur, cutting her off.

Her expression shifted, same with Elena and Nadia as they quickly sensed that something was wrong.

The rumble continued intermittently, causing dust to fall from the ceiling.

The trio exchanged looks with one another before Nadia and Elena hurried outside with Victoria picking up her umbrella before following closely behind.

"Commander, we have a problem." One of the defenders of the wall remarked as their leader moved to join them on the wall after noticing the unnatural rumbles.

"What is it?"

"You might want to see for yourself, sir."

Saying that the officer handed over the goggles to the commander, who took them and used them to scan the area ahead.

He immediately froze as he laid eyes on what the officer and his other subordinates were worried about which was also the cause of the unnatural rumblings disturbing Pheripolis.

It was a fleet, but not of ships, but of mobile cities with the largest mobile city leading the park.

Dropping the goggles, the commander didn’t hesitate to exclaim. "We are under attack!... Man the cannons!"

Hearing those words, the defenders didn’t hesitate to take action as they passed on the order, with the gunners rushing to their post, aware of the severity of the situation.

Within minutes, the cannons on the wall of Pheripolis were aimed toward the incoming fleet of mobile cities, displaying the military might of the city-state.

Meanwhile, messengers had already been sent to bring news to the council that they were under attack in a bid to rally the troops.

At the same time, bells echoed throughout the city, intending to inform the citizens to remain in their houses until further notice while law enforcement moved to ensure that no one disobeyed the alarm.

Back at the wall, the commander gave the order to fire and his subordinates followed accordingly.

Within moments, the sound of continuous cannon fire echoed atop the walls of Pheripolis.

"Would you look at that?" Ull muttered in slight amusement as he watched Pheripolis react to the presence of his troops.

Before now, he wouldn’t have dared to carry out such an attack after all, it would be a failed attempt at a conquest.

Before he’d reach the walls, his city would have received too much damage to do anything to the city-state.

But now, things are different.

Not only did he not have to sustain any damage as the other mobile cities accompanying him moved to mitigate most of the damage, but he also had the means to ensure that the cannons wouldn’t remain a problem for long.

"Exalted One, the Punisher has been prepared and is ready for use." One of Ull’s subordinates reported while kneeling behind him with Cybele standing beside the so-called son of god.

King Ull glanced at Cybele and inquired. "Would you like to witness it in action?... Among all the weapons we retrieved, the Punisher is the most terrifying."

"I am aware." Cybele mildly said, her attention focused elsewhere.

Ull’s gaze scrutinized her body briefly before he turned to his subordinate and gave the order. "Fire."

"As you wish."

Meanwhile, on the wall, the defenders of Pheripolis didn’t stop for a single moment as they continued with cannon fire, hoping to chase away the barbarians.

Unfortunately for them, the enemies continued to push forward.

"Commander, what do we do?"

"We have to prepare for the probability of close combat."

"But we would lose."

"You think I don’t know that!?" The commander scolded his subordinate.

He was about to say more when he heard a whirring sound like something was charging up.

Instinctively, he glanced in the direction the mobile cities were coming from only to pause as he laid eyes on a long barrel that slowly revealed itself from the center of the largest mobile city approaching.

Black energy seemed to be gathering at the tip, taking the shape of a sphere which caused the commander to back away in fright.

He didn’t even know when, but he cried out. "Fall back!... Fall back now!"

Alas, it was too late.

What followed was silence and then a thick blackness, almost like someone had turned off the sole light bulb in a dark room, but this time, it was the Lightbringer that had switched off and the Nighteye refused to come on.

When light finally returned, the northern walls of Pheripolis were gone, seemingly erased from existence, it and all that was with it, and in its place, black crystals began to appear.
