Chapter 262: Witch of Fables II

Victoria stared at the Witch of Fables, ecstatic by just how powerful she’d become and the potential she held.

Unfortunately, her joy was short-lived as a series of howls echoed from the city below.

"They must have noticed the commotion," Victoria muttered with her nose scrunched in faint annoyance.

Meanwhile, Alex remained silent, his gaze fixed on the Witch of Fables who seemed to be studying him.

Moments later, a feminine voice with a rather soothing effect echoed in his mind.

I have been waiting for you.

Alex frowned as he muttered. "Is that so?"

Indeed. I still remember when I gave the prophecy about your appearance, o great Dark Lord.

"Because of that prophecy, I had quite a bit of a problem."

I apologize. It wasn’t my intention.

"You look like you want to tell me something." Alex decided to speak up, considering the Witch wasn’t willing to do so.

Her expression shifted as though she were in deep thought before she finally shook her head.

You can’t do anything now, however, when you are ready, take a trip to the Heart of the Ethereal. I shall be waiting for you.

Alex remained silent as he attempted to decipher the Witch’s intention but try as he may, he pulled up repeated blanks.

Then he contemplated if it was worth meeting her.

"I doubt meeting you would help in my plans."

It would, O great Night King. You may not heed my words but believe me when I say that you need me.

"You sound so sure."

I have seen many, many things. I promise you will not regret coming.

Alex pursed his lips before finally letting out a sigh. "Tell me something. Did you come out because you knew Victoria was connected to me?"

... Perhaps.

"I see." Alex nodded thoughtfully, having understood that if his conjecture was correct, it meant that the Witch of Fables had only ever come out on two occasions and on both, they were related to him.

Meanwhile, Victoria couldn’t help but wonder what Alex was talking about though she was aware he was conversing with the Witch of Fables.

Albeit curious, she decided to watch from the background while keeping an eye on the situation below.

Alex met the Witch’s eyes and thought to himself how human she looked despite her comically large appearance.

Weighing his gains and losses, he decided to take a gamble. "As you wish, I will find a way to reach you."

I suggest you do so before you become a Nemesis of Disorder else... there will be no going back.

"Nemesis of Disorder?"

The 8th Lock of the so-called Human Wheel.

"... Very well then. Now, enough with the chitchat. My subordinate is currently in grave danger and we wish to bypass the..."

Suddenly, Alex paused as he noticed the commotion below.

He looked down only to discover the skyline of Thebes quickly being covered by a wall of molten earth.

"Are they..."

Let me assist you.

The Witch of Fables turned toward the barrier and without hesitation, reached out with one hand.

Boom

The ground beneath shook as her palm came in contact with the barrier and just like it were a piece of paper, she tore it off neatly, before reaching again for the molten wall and doing the same.

Alex stood still, his mind a mess as he tried to figure out where to place the surprisingly powerful Spirit.

Her presence was indeed lacking when compared to ascended Fear but he couldn’t help but compare her to Zheztitl who he had faced at Townsend.

Of course, unlike the latter, the Witch of Fables domain remained a mystery.

Regardless, the skyline of Thebes was once again in view and without any obstruction.

With that, The Witch glanced at Alex.

I will be expecting you, o great Dark Lord.

"Mn." Alex nodded in response after which the Great Spirit returned to the Spirit World.

"Master..." Victoria tried to speak up only to be cut off by Alex.

"Let’s move."

Without waiting for a response, he teleported down with Victoria quickly following after.

Douglas was a broken mess, his body tattered and bruised as he lay on the ground but regardless, his eyes were filled with light as he struggled to get back on his feet.

Behind him, Elena’s ice coffin remained unharmed.

"I didn’t think you were a despicable fellow. What sort of monstrosity have you invited on this land?" Carlos inquired as he used his spear to pierce Douglas’s torso, eliciting a pained groan from him.

The BeastMen present had already laid eyes on the moment the Witch of Fables arrived and despite their attempt to seal off the city, she easily ripped apart their defenses.

Their only hope now lay in using Douglas as a hostage, of course, this was if their opponent was open to an exchange.

It didn’t take long before a flash of black and white erupted with Alex walking out of it accompanied by Victoria.

"Well, this is nice," Alex muttered as he laid eyes on Douglas.

Victoria’s eyes narrowed as she remarked. "I didn’t expect you to lose so badly. It would seem you require additional training."

As she spoke, she shifted her attention to Carlos who immediately grew tense at the overwhelming pressure emitted by Victoria.

Still utilizing the Blessings, Victoria prepared to attack as she took a step forward only for Douglas to speak up in a hoarse voice.

"No!"

Victoria paused and Alex raised a brow as both regarded him.

"This is my fight. Stay out of it." As Douglas spoke, he forcefully removed Carlos’s spear before dragging himself back to his feet.

Alex remarked. "You are in no condition to fight, Lupus. Fall back."

"No!" Douglas remained stubborn as he cleaned the blood at the corner of his mouth. "I am not that weak that I won’t be able to win."

Pausing to catch his breath, he turned to regard Alex as he added. "So let me fight... alone."

Silence reigned as Carlos regained some respect for Douglas with Alex letting out a sigh.

"Fine then. But failure is not an option. Take him down, now."

Nodding in response, Douglas shifted his attention back to Carlos who’d already taken an offensive stance.

Taking a deep breath, Douglas intoned loudly. "Again!"
