Hunter of the Evernight -
Chapter 261: Witch of Fables
Chapter 261: Witch of Fables
Carlos was intrigued by Douglas from the moment he saw him for the first time.
Back then, he found himself unable to read the latter but his senses made him know that Douglas wasn’t a simple man.
At first, he considered letting him spend some time in a waiting cell before finally releasing him but he escaped and what’s more, in a way that was still unknown to Carlos.
Just now, his brethren had informed him about Douglas’s unique use of ice and he had seen it with his own eyes the low proficiency with which he utilized it.
As a notable figure in Aragon, Carlos prided himself on learning much about the supernatural world which was why he was well aware that the Frost Domain was exclusive to werewolves and according to what was known, the werewolves were extinct due to an unfortunate accident several years ago.
So there were two things; it was either Douglas was a human Mystic that devoured a werewolf body part or he was a werewolf himself.
But neither explained how he was able to escape his holding cell so easily.
He’d already intended to investigate Douglas to figure him out but the latter beat him to it by declaring a Call to Combat.
It was said amongst his people that the best way to know a man was to face him in combat.
Which was why Carlos agreed and with a smile, gestured for Douglas to approach.

Douglas took a deep breath as he watched Carlos approach.
Each step he took caused him to grow tense.
This was his first real fight after the battle with the Monster Wheel Mystics back at BoneHaven.
Sure, he’d been practicing in the meantime but practice was different from what was about to happen.
Clenching his fist to get rid of the apprehension he felt, he decided to focus on the mission he’d been assigned.
Protecting Elena.
With that reminder, Douglas’s eyes grew sharp causing Carlos to pause as he seemed to have noticed the air about him change.
"Will you attack or should I?" Carlos inquired.
Douglas didn’t respond and instead slowly bent down to touch the ground.
Carlos prepared to attack as he sensed fluctuations in the aether only for him to pause as he watched Elena slowly get encapsulated in an ice cube.
"Interesting."
Douglas muttered. "I can’t allow any harm come to her."
"Do you doubt the honor of my people?"
"No." Douglas shook his head. "But our battle would surely cause damage, it might get to her."
With those words, Douglas got back on his feet and tore off his shirt which was mostly ruined thanks to Carlos’s attack.
"Let’s begin," Douglas remarked as he took an offensive posture, his fists at the ready.
Carlos nodded. "As you wish."
Immediately, he made his move.
Crossing the distance between them in a flash, Douglas immediately tried to punch him back only to realize he’d struck air.
The next moment, he felt a searing pain on his chest causing him to look down only to find a deep wound across his torso.
Unable to understand what happened, he glanced at Carlos but the latter remained silent, an amused smile dancing on his lips.
Douglas gritted his teeth as his skin changed color from light-skinned dark to a pale sickly green before he charged forward.
Unfortunately, the same thing happened again and he found himself bleeding yet again.
Carlos spoke up at that moment. "I would advise you not to rush forward like a fool. I’d rather not want you dead so quickly."
Douglas clenched his fists as he realized just how much he’d overestimated himself.
***
More than 30 minutes had passed since Thebes went into lockdown with a transparent barrier about it.
At this point, there was a flash in the sky above the dome with two individuals appearing.
One donned a red gown with a corset and heels while carrying an umbrella above her head while the other wore a grey trench coat with similarly colored trousers, shoes, and a top hat.
"They must have caught Douglas," Alex muttered with a frown as he scrutinized the barrier.
Victoria nodded. "Arthur was right, it would be difficult to move into the city even with its reduced security."
"Hah, this is troublesome." Alex sighed as he attempted to snap only for Victoria to speak up.
"Master, please, allow me."
"Oh?" Alex raised a brow.
Victoria revealed a smile as she continued. "I haven’t had a chance to test the limits of the blessings you have bestowed on me, master. Please, give me a chance to do so now. Such mundane things shouldn’t require you to make a move."
"... I see." Alex wouldn’t lie that the thought of taking a rest while allowing his teammates to do all the work had crossed his mind but he couldn’t allow that.
This was still his mission and they were merely helpers.
Regardless, Victoria’s words held some truth to them and so... "As you wish, do what you want." Alex remarked as he pocketed his hands yet again.
"Thank you, master," Victoria said as she turned her attention to the barrier below.
A black and white circle appeared on her forehead as she remarked. "Open sesame."
Crack
Alex’s eyes widened at the sudden sound causing him to glance at the Spirit gate that formed.
The next moment, an incredibly large ghostly female with flowing black hair, donning a bloodied white gown and holding a similarly sized book emerged from the gate, her entrance boasting a serene appearance that left one at ease with her pale eyes reflecting the world below.
"The Witch of Fables. I summoned the Witch of Fables." Victoria muttered, her eyes widened in shock at just how powerful she’d become with the use of Alex’s blessing.
One had to understand that the Witch of Fables had only ever been summoned once in history and that was by a fully powered Monarch who still had the lingering effects of the Dark Ages.
This meant at this moment with the enhancement of the Blessings, Victoria was as powerful as a Monarch from the Dark Ages!
Just then, the Witch of Fables turned and made eye contact with Alex.
