Chapter 278: Chapter 280: Prepared a Surprise_1
Half an hour later, Li Qiao entered the room, wiping her hair.
Qin Jin had already corrected the mistakes, and Li Qiao checked them over. "You clearly understand some of these questions, so why did you still get them wrong? You need to be more careful."
"I guessed."
Li Qiao: "..."
After Li Qiao explained the incorrect questions, Qin Jin corrected them and copied them into her notebook before going out to wash up.
By the time he returned, Li Qiao had already fallen asleep. He didn’t know if she had just had a nightmare, but her eyelashes were wet, with tiny droplets clinging to them.
Her nose was red.
He felt a pang of distress and gently wiped away her tears, thinking to himself that if he found out who had scared her in her dream, he’d definitely give that person a couple of punches.
........
The next day.
Li Qiao used her lunch break to pick out materials at Beijing’s largest bookstore.
She not only spent all her book coupons and twenty yuan but ended up paying an extra five yuan out of pocket.
Carrying the books, she planned to head back to the school’s messaging office to mail them right away.
As she reached the school gate, she met Xue Lingqing head-on; Xue Sufen was following beside him, glaring at her venomously.
Li Qiao was speechless.
Not only was her own program not spectacular, but was she also not allowed to let others succeed?
She complained to Gu Weimin, resulting in her program being moved to the very beginning, almost leading to her embarrassment.
She later realized why her program had been moved up front.
She shifted her gaze away from Xue Sufen and greeted Xue Lingqing.
Xue Lingqing asked, "What’s all this stuff you bought?"
Li Qiao replied, "I picked out these materials for my junior brothers and sisters back home."
Xue Lingqing smiled and said, "Don’t forget the well-digger when you drink the water. You’ve made it into university, but you’re still helping out your fellow villagers. Good for you."
Li Qiao felt somewhat embarrassed: "The teachers at the school sent the money and the book coupons." If it weren’t for the book coupons, these materials wouldn’t be obtainable for twenty yuan. Books are too expensive these days; you can’t even earn a yuan in a day, and books sell for several yuan each."
When classmates buy books, most of them buy one and share it among themselves.
Xue Sufen said, "Did you hear that? I told you she’s stingy. Only you and Grandpa think she’s generous."
Xue Lingqing ignored Xue Sufen’s comment and continued to talk to Li Qiao, "Earlier, I summarized a whole set of college entrance exam papers for Sufen. Do you want them?"
Li Qiao’s eyes lit up: "I would be grateful."
Her topics paled in comparison to those of a professor: "Professor Xue, do you have time? Could you look over these materials for me?"
Xue Lingqing said, "You go to the library and wait for me; I need to stop by home."
"Sure. Don’t forget to bring your exam papers," said Li Qiao.
Xue Lingqing’s lips barely lifted in a smile: "Mm."
Li Qiao left.
Xue Sufen sneered: "Look at you, happier to see Li Qiao than you are to see Grandma and Grandpa."
"Stop talking nonsense," Xue Lingqing’s face turned cold in an instant.
Xue Sufen: "..." What, did he eat gunpowder? Can’t even take a joke.
.....
Li Qiao waited for a good half hour in the library before Xue Lingqing appeared.
He said in a low voice, "These have Sufen’s handwriting on them. When you have time, you might want to copy down the questions."
"Okay," said Li Qiao. "I can use the school’s printer and print out a copy. Professor Xue, take a look at these materials."
Xue Lingqing flipped through them one by one: "All pretty good."
Li Qiao was relieved.
Xue Lingqing said, "Have you been writing any papers recently?"
"Yes, but I’ve been working on something related to physics."
After asking about Li Qiao’s study situation, Xue Lingqing left the library.
As if she suddenly remembered something, Li Qiao caught up with him, "Professor Xue, wait a moment, Jin is planning to take the accounting certification exam. Do you know how to register for it?"
Xue Lingqing showed slight surprise. Was Qin Jin really so ambitious? "You don’t need to register now. I’ll tell you when it’s time to sign up. However, it’s going to be hard without a tutor. Many university students don’t pass," he thought for a moment and suggested, "You can audit courses at the university."
Li Qiao smiled with pursed lips, "That’s what I was thinking."
The two chatted a bit more about the topic before parting ways.
...
Using her free time after class and the school’s printer, Li Qiao printed and bound the materials provided by Xue Lingqing. She mailed them back to her hometown along with other documents.
Two weeks later, she received a telegram from her teacher.
The materials have been received.
Days went by monotonously, and in the blink of an eye, it was the end of June.
The school was about to start summer vacation.
After finishing her exams, Li Qiao felt much more relaxed without classes. She had more time to encourage Qin Jin to study diligently. Early on a Sunday morning, she urged Qin Jin to get up and do practice papers.
"All I do is work or study, no time for a lazy sleep," Qin Jin complained.
He really missed the days when he and his buddies would swim and catch fish in the river.
Li Qiao went along with his sentiment, "I find it boring too, so I have prepared a big surprise for you."
"What’s the big surprise?" Qin Jin’s spirits lifted. Could it have something to do with marital intimacy?
Recently she hadn’t let him touch her, and he was nearly bursting with frustration.
Li Qiao said, "Finish this paper, and I’ll tell you."
Qin Jin, "...."> English was finally off the hook, and now it was accounting stuff. He rubbed his hair in irritation, "Is it still possible to register for the university exam now? I think I can make it."
Li Qiao laughed lightly, "Have you studied language and math? What about physics and chemistry? Have you learned politics, history, geography, and biology?"
Qin Jin, "...."
Li Qiao raised her chin, "Nothing to say, right? Hurry up and get to work! After the accounting exam, I’ll see what else you can learn. Take advantage of your youth and learn everything quickly."
Qin Jin, "..."> More learning?
Suffering!
In July, during the unified exams, Li Qiao specifically wrote a letter back home to encourage her juniors.
Qin Jin’s mind wasn’t on the paper. He was easily distracted by any little noise and couldn’t help but laugh, "They say ’I’ll be waiting for you at Beijing University.’ Last year, only one person from our county got in, aren’t you giving them too much credit with your words?"
Li Qiao responded, "Don’t underestimate others. The teacher said our school has admitted several students with excellent grades this year. They might achieve even greater accomplishments. Get back to your paper. Do you still want that surprise or not?"
Qin Jin obediently closed his mouth and focused on the test paper in his hands.
After finishing her letter, Li Qiao headed out to mail it. Just as she reached the mouth of the alley, she spotted Xue Lingqing’s figure and called out loudly.
"Professor Xue."
Xue Lingqing turned around, then got out of his car to wait for her. "Are you asking about exam results? You’re still number one in your major. The three hundred yuan scholarship is as good as yours." She was truly incredible, maintaining her grades despite skipping a grade.
Li Qiao gave a faint smile, "I’m confident about the exams, I was wondering if you’re going to the school?"
Xue Lingqing looked down, "Hmm."
"Can you give me a lift? I want to send a letter at the school," Li Qiao thick-skinnedly asked.
Only then did Xue Lingqing notice the envelope in her hand. So, she wasn’t asking about her grades. "Sure." He was happy to give her a ride.
After getting into the car, he asked, "What has Jin been busy with lately?"
"He bought some accounting materials and is working on them at home."
The two talked sporadically. When they reached the school gate, Li Qiao got out of his car. After thanking him, she mailed the letter and then walked home.
