Chapter 277: Chapter 279: Learning Maniac_1

"I’m starving," Qin Jin said irritably.

It was Saturday, and the transportation unit only had a half-day shift.

He had finished work early and headed home.

When he was about to cook dinner, his grandmother came back and said she had eaten at the school’s cafeteria, so he didn’t need to make her portion.

Upon learning that Qiaoqiao wasn’t home, his grandmother mentioned that she hadn’t seen Qiaoqiao enter the library after work.

She also talked about a box Qiaoqiao received yesterday from an unknown sender. Today, when she was taking out the trash, the box was still there. When she secretly opened it, it was a dead rat inside, which nearly scared her soul out of her. Worried about Qiaoqiao’s safety, she hurriedly asked him to go out and look for her.

He found out from her roommate Ma Hongxiang that Li Qiao had come back to the dormitory in the evening, changed into a set of clothes, and told her that she was going to eat at Spring Restaurant.

That’s how he knew where Qiaoqiao was.

Li Qiao said, "Then let’s go home for dinner, there’s your favorite clay pot chicken inside."

Qin Jin’s expression finally softened, "Don’t run around at night next time, okay?"

"Got it," Li Qiao cooed. Actually, she didn’t need to be found; Gu Weimin could handle it.

Moreover, there was a patrol team on this road, and many restaurants lined the street. Now was the dinner rush, and many people were coming to eat nearby, making it safer than the walk from school to home.

....

The matter with Xue Sufen had come to an end.

Gu Weimin might have been intimidated by Qin Jin and no longer troubled Li Qiao; her life went back to being peaceful.

In addition to her routine of soaking up the library to look up information and write her thesis, and her part-time translating job, she began tutoring Qin Jin in English.

Qin Jin initially found it very awkward.

His English pronunciation was rigid, and he couldn’t get his tongue around the words.

Once accustomed, he began to take an interest.

When Li Qiao had free time, she would converse with him in simple English, and gradually, he was able to express himself reasonably well.

But he was still far from meeting her standards.

On another weekend, Li Qiao passed by a bookstore while submitting a translation draft. She picked up a stack of English materials to take home and set tasks for Qin Jin to do.

After Qin Jin completed them, Li Qiao immediately corrected them, and aside from grammatical errors, the accuracy rate was pretty high.

She explained the mistakes to Qin Jin and had him copy down the wrong answers to reinforce his memory.

In his spare time, he would take them out for review and consolidation.

Old Mrs. Qin looked on as Qin Jin made progress day by day, smiling all day long.

"Qiaoqiao is so capable," she couldn’t help but praise again.

Li Qiao’s eyes curved into smiles, "It’s also because Jin has the will to improve." Qin Jin was really smart, even quicker on the uptake than Han Ting. When it came to learning accounting and English, once he overcame the initial hurdles, everything that followed became simple.

If he had had the chance to study, he probably would have been a university student by now.

The environment has such a big impact on people.

"Jin is indeed quite good," Old Mrs. Qin said, a rare acknowledgment of Qin Jin.

Qin Jin was so moved that he almost cried; it was the first time he heard his grandmother praise him with his own ears.

Li Qiao said, "I heard at school that there’s a higher level of accounting certification that university students can take, something that night classes don’t teach, and you have to attend university lectures for that. I’ll get a syllabus together soon. Classes aren’t every day, so Jin could take leave to sneak into school for some lectures. When I have time, I’ll ask Professor Xue how members of the public can sign up."

Old Mrs. Qin asked, "What if the teacher recognizes that he’s not from our school?"

"I’m the head teacher of my class, and I’ve been leading it for three years. He doesn’t even recognize some of the students. Let alone substitute teachers – they barely take roll call, and attending class is all on the students’ own volition," Li Qiao explained.

The difference between high school and university is that teachers no longer care about your grades.

Whether you space out during class or sleep, the teacher won’t say a word.

There are no monthly exams, only a final assessment, and if you fail, you retake.

Many students, lacking the teachers’ supervision, see their grades plummet.

"I see, then I can learn it."

Qin Jin held his forehead, whether he should learn or not should be his own decision, right? He couldn’t help but say, "Why do I need so many qualifications?"

Old Mrs. Qin said, "Having many skills doesn’t burden you, while others long for such opportunities and can’t even get them."

Li Qiao agreed, "You won’t need to spend too much time on this. It’s now May, and the exams are in October; you have almost half a year to prepare. As long as you digest what the teacher teaches, there should be no problem."

"I probably won’t understand the stuff from university," Qin Jin said.

Hearing this, Li Qiao responded, "Just try attending two classes first, and if you really can’t understand, then forget it." Asking someone who had never been to school to understand university knowledge was indeed asking too much.

.....

Li Qiao quickly obtained the class schedule.

Every Saturday from two-thirty to four-thirty happened to be Qin Jin’s time off.

After school, she couldn’t wait to go home and tell Qin Jin the good news.

Passing by the mailroom, she saw that there was a package for her on the small board.

She turned around to look for it.

It was a package from her old school back home.

Was it the teacher mailing the graduation certificate?

She couldn’t wait to open it right away, and as she expected, it was the graduation certificate, along with a letter.

Inside the envelope was twenty yuan and a bookstore voucher.

The letter asked her to purchase some review materials that adhered to the textbooks and mail them back to her hometown.

She pocketed the letter and headed straight home.

In the kitchen, Qin Jin, wearing an apron, was busy by the stove.

Li Qiao held out the diploma and flashed it in front of his eyes, "Your high school diploma."

Qin Jin took a close look, "Wow, it even has the principal’s signature and seal."

Li Qiao: "Wouldn’t it be a fake certificate without a seal?"

Qin Jin curved his lips, speaking as though having one made it genuine. "Wait until grandma comes back to show her this, she’ll be so happy she won’t be able to sleep."

Li Qiao laughed, "Not being able to sleep is no good, put it away and don’t let her see it."

"Don’t let me see what?" Old Mrs. Qin stepped into the kitchen.

Li Qiao raised the certificate in her hand, "Jin’s diploma."

Old Mrs. Qin was both surprised and delighted, "With this certificate, he won’t have to worry about his qualifications being questioned at work." She paused for a moment before adding, "When we have time to go back to our hometown, we should invite your teacher for a meal."

Li Qiao: "Indeed, we should."

"Let me keep the certificate, so it won’t get lost," Old Mrs. Qin said.

Li Qiao handed it to her without hesitation.

Old Mrs. Qin, treating it like a treasure, locked it in the cabinet. During dinner that evening, she uncharacteristically had two drinks and went to bed early.

...

Li Qiao sat in front of the dressing table translating documents, while Qin Jin worked on English materials alongside her.

At nine-thirty, Li Qiao put down her pen and stretched, "So tired, I need to sleep, I have class tomorrow."

Qin Jin also put down his pen, sighing inwardly that having a wife obsessed with studying was truly exhausting.

Thankfully she often stayed in the library; if she studied at home, he felt he could even sign up for college himself. "Do you want me to check it?"

"Check it, please. What’s done today is finished today."

Qin Jin went out to mix the bathwater, "Qiaoqiao, there’s no water left, I’ll heat some up for you, just wait a moment."

"Okay," Li Qiao said, using a red pen to check for errors.

She managed to find one or two and sometimes several errors on each paper, but for him, this was already very good.

She marked a big A to encourage him.

Qin Jin had the water ready, "Qiaoqiao, the bath is ready."

Li Qiao: "I’ve finished correcting, think about the mistakes by yourself, I’ll check when I get back."

"Okay then," Qin Jin said somewhat helplessly.
