Chapter 250: Chapter 252: These Words Sound So Pleasant_1

After breakfast, Qin Jin and Li Qiao prepared to visit relatives. On their way out, they encountered Li Jinhua, holding a string of thin pork.

Li Jinhua glanced at Qin Jin’s net bag, which contained at least five pounds of pork, a good number of eggs, two bottles of sorghum liquor, and a pack of cigarettes.

She thought to herself, no matter how much you give, I’ll still end up with a share of it.

Li Qiao took a ride with Qin Jin, leaving first.

Upon arriving at the Li Family home in Tulou Village, Li Jiaoyang and Li Jiaojiao were already there.

The children enthusiastically greeted her, calling her "Third Aunt."

Li Qiao handed out red envelopes and chocolate liqueurs to the children.

Li Jiaojiao complimented her, "Qiaoqiao looks really nice today."

Li Qiao laughed and said, "Second sister looks pretty good too." Overall, everyone looked better than last year.

The three sisters were in the midst of a cold exchange.

Dong Lamei asked, "Why didn’t your sister come with you again?"

"She walks too slowly."

"Walking? You saw her on the road, eh? Why didn’t Jin give her a lift?" Dong Lamei was full of grievances.

Qin Jin bluntly replied, "I’m already showing you respect by not beating her up." She’s nothing but trouble, a jealous wife, yet claims to have lived an extra lifetime.

She’s lived so many extra years just to end up in a dog’s belly.

Expecting me to give her a ride? Dream on! Dreams can have anything.

Dong Lamei: "..."

Li Shengcai reprimanded softly, "How can you speak to an elder like that?"

Qin Jin: "So should I leave?"

Li Shengcai: "..."

Li Jinniu, having grown a year older, was much more talkative than last year. He pulled up a chair for Qin Jin: "Third brother-in-law, my dad didn’t mean that, please sit down, I’ll pour you a glass of water."

Qin Jin’s expression eased slightly: "Okay."

After Li Jinniu went inside, Li Qiao followed to keep an eye on him pouring water.

Although he hadn’t caused any trouble, their interactions were minimal and she didn’t trust him much.

Li Jinniu: "Third sister, do you want some water?"

Li Qiao: "If you pour it, I’ll drink."

"Eh, alright." Li Jinniu quickly poured two glasses of water.

Li Qiao took a glass to Qin Jin and used the other to warm her hands.

The family sat together and chatted idly.

About half an hour later, Li Jinhua finally showed up.

Dong Lamei looked at what she was holding with discontent.

Among the four sisters, Jinhua had the best clothes and food growing up, but ended up marrying the poorest. The gifts she brought couldn’t even compare to Li Jiaoyang’s. It was such a waste of her upbringing.

If she had known, she would rather have saved the money instead of spending it on education.

Dong Lamei asked, "How is Feng Erguanggun’s health now?"

"Much better. He can get out of bed and enjoy some sunshine," Li Jinhua replied.

Dong Lamei murmured softly, "Look at you, you would have been better off just being honest and living with Li Jianguo. I heard he won over ten bucks last night. Over ten bucks, you know. People who have money just seem to get luckier." She really pined for that money as if Jinhua were still Li Jianguo’s wife.

She could have taken at least half of that money for herself.

Li Jinhua was disdainful.

Li Jianguo’s current circumstances were indeed good, but he could hardly read and had made money that was disproportionate to his intelligence. Sooner or later, he would pay it back in some other way.

Better to bank on Feng Erguanggun’s future opportunities.

Today, she needed to find a chance to insinuate to Li Qiao some comments about only being interested in Qin Jin’s money, making sure Qin Jin overheard them.

Given Qin Jin’s temperament, even if Li Qiao was talented, he wouldn’t want her anymore.

Dong Lamei was in a foul mood, and as mealtime approached, she feigned back pain and ordered Li Jiaoyang and the others to cook.

As Li Jiaoyang and her sisters got busy in the kitchen, they realized there was no salt at home.

Li Qiao offered, "I’ll go buy it."

Li Jiaojiao complained discontentedly, "The stepmother did it on purpose, knowing that we were visiting relatives today."

Li Qiao: "Forget it." There’s no reasoning with Dong Lamei; she’s thick-skinned. Just like Li Jinhua, one moment she’s arguing with you, and the next, she acts as if nothing happened, ready to make her demands as usual.

Li Qiao left.

Seizing the opportunity, Li Jinhua followed her discreetly.

Qin Jin narrowed his eyes. This crafty Li Jinhua, following his wife, wasn’t planning to harm her again, was she?

He followed too.

During the New Year, people who didn’t visit relatives in the village gathered at the convenience store to play cards, while those who did have relatives over were busy entertaining them at home.

The only people moving about on the streets were children playing with spent firecrackers.

Li Jinhua noticed someone following her. Catching a glimpse with her peripheral vision, she only saw a shadow but confirmed it was Qin Jin—He had actually followed her.

Heaven was on her side.

She waited on the spot for Li Qiao to finish buying things and return. Then she purposefully said, "I have something to tell you."

"I don’t want to listen."

Li Jinhua, "Regarding where you come from, I know who you are now—you’re from decades in the future. You must be a university student from decades later, probably with mediocre grades. You were able to become the top scholar here because the competition isn’t fierce. You might even be ugly and have slept with many men. You must know that Qin Jin will become very successful in the future, so you’re sticking close to him."

Li Qiao was shocked. How could Li Jinhua know she was from decades in the future?

It was terrifying.

And one more thing—Li Jinhua really understood Qin Jin.

"I don’t understand what you’re saying," she said.

"Stop pretending!" Li Jinhua said, "You can’t fool me, because I’m reborn from the future! If I know about things from decades later, you definitely do too. You’re just another vain woman, always acting so sanctimonious, your family upbringing must not have been good."

Li Qiao stopped in her tracks. She couldn’t tolerate anyone criticizing her parents, "Your family upbringing is the poor one! My parents are educated and well-mannered people. They taught me to be honest and to behave with integrity. If only they had taught me to be a bit more careful with people, you and your mother wouldn’t have been able to deceive me for so long!"

"I don’t know what will happen to Jin in the future, but no matter what, I love him. I’ve looked like this since I was little, whether I’m ugly or not is not for you to judge. Have you ever seen someone with average grades become top scholar? And as for sleeping with many men, even if I were to sleep with men, I wouldn’t be sleeping here. As for you, living another lifetime and still so shameless."

She finished speaking but it wasn’t enough to vent her frustration.

Lifting her hand, she slapped Li Jinhua across the face, "Shameless!"

Li Jinhua, struck by the slap, with a cry lunged at Li Qiao.

Li Qiao turned and ran.

Qin Jin waited for Li Qiao and Li Jinhua to run past before he picked up a pebble from the ground and aimed it at Li Jinhua’s calf, throwing it.

Li Jinhua instantly fell to the ground, clutching her leg and crying out.

Li Qiao turned back, thinking Li Jinhua had just fallen, and burst into triumphant laughter, "Serves you right! Wicked woman, disgusting shameless creature!"

Qin Jin hid behind the haystack, listening and smiling.

No matter what, she loves him.

What a pleasant thing to hear.

His heart felt sweeter than honey.

He waited until Li Qiao was far away, making sure she couldn’t see him, before he came out from behind the haystack. He approached the limping Li Jinhua, gave her a kick, and left with a swagger.

Li Jinhua fell yet again.

And cried.

She had failed again!

Why couldn’t heaven let her succeed just once?

...

Li Qiao returned home, complaining loudly, "Li Jinhua is so jealous of me she’s gone crazy. She’s spouting nonsense, claiming she’s lived a whole life before. She says Jin will be very successful in the future, and she wants to marry him to enjoy the prosperity, even if it means being a concubine."

"What?"

Li Shengcai failed to respond immediately.

Li Jinniu, "There was already a fuss about this earlier. I said before she was crazy, but nobody believed me. Now she’s ranting on the main road for all to hear; who knows how people will laugh at us. Better lock her up soon."

Dong Lamei slapped Li Jinniu across the head, "What are you saying? Where’s your sister?" She then asked Li Qiao the latter question.

Li Jinniu touched his head.

Li Qiao, "Still out there on the road, going crazy."

Dong Lamei went out to find someone.

Li Jiaoyang and Li Jiaojiao exchanged glances and then discussed quietly.

"Probably driven mad by that bachelor Feng Erguanggun."

"Serves her right! Who asked her to be bad?"

"Where did Jin go?" Li Qiao put down the salt and, not seeing Qin Jin, asked her two brothers-in-law.

"He left shortly after you went out."

Speak of the devil, and he shall appear.

Li Qiao, "Where have you been?"

"Taking a dump."

Li Qiao, "..." Couldn’t you be a bit more civilized?
