Chapter 329: 169 Zhengzhan City, Beidou Holy Temple

"The break in the wall, was it done by this monster?"

His gaze flickered, as he speculated.

"Then, how did it die?"

Bai Xiao raised his head, looking at the towering battlements on either side of the wall where several soldier statues, holding stone bows and arrows, stood stiffly in place, motionless, appearing to pose no threat at all. However, once someone invades, the next second they might suffer a thunderous blow, blasted to pieces by arrow missiles comparable to cannon shells.

"Was it these archers?"

He slightly shifted his angle, peering distantly at the white bone skull. To his astonishment, he discovered a deep and massive gash sunken in the forehead of the skull, looking as if, when the giant creature was alive, someone had fiercely hacked at its head with a ferocious battle axe, nearly splitting the skull in two!

"It shouldn’t be these archers, but rather some other powerhouse who took down this giant monster..." Bai Xiao murmured to himself, his gaze once again turning forward.

One could see that behind this breach in the wall, there seemed to be a residential area. Roads built of gray stone, arranged in a grid that was somewhat damaged, gradually spread into the distance. Buildings on both sides rose and fell, densely packed, the overall style tending towards rectangular shapes. From afar, they resembled chunks of gray-black building blocks pieced together, with only the tiles showing white.

"Shall we go in and have a look?"

He looked at the city streets enveloped in fog, contemplating the idea.

"But these archers..."

Bai Xiao revealed a wary expression.

Although his strength had recently increased, the impression made by the soldier statues on the wall was too profound; each arrow fired was like an incoming missile.

Even if he could occasionally withstand them, he would probably have to pay a price.

"Forget it, it seems this city is likely more dangerous than the outside. Better to first collect some Fear Qi in the Imperial Graveyard area,"

Bai Xiao weighed the pros and cons, finally settling on this plan.

But just as he was about to turn away, he suddenly noticed. At some unknown time, the surrounding gray-black fog had thickened to an alarming level, rolling and scraping across the ground as though it were a substantive, living entity, rustling softly. The dim fog extended from the distance, from the Imperial Graveyard, slowly engulfing everything.

"What is this..."

Bai Xiao had just furrowed his brow when the soldier statues on the wall suddenly drew their bows to shoot.

Bending bows, releasing strings.

Whoosh!!!!

Several Black Stone Arrows were shot out at an incredibly fast speed, compressing a transparent cavity in the air, carrying a formidable force.

Boom, boom, boom, boom!

The arrows collided with a solid object and exploded loudly, causing a huge disturbance.

The air currents surged, eerily outlining a strange silhouette.

It was a being of giant stature, seeming even larger and more imposing than the Totem Giant, draped in heavy Armor. Its exaggerated muscular arms held a black greatsword with notches, the guard shaped like ferocious skeletal fangs. Instead of a head, the giant had six thick, black, tentacle-like structures at its neck, writhing wildly, almost like a grotesque conglomeration of snakes, presently unified in roaring towards the wall.

"Hiss!!!"

A dense mass of black lines shot out, instantly pounding against the wall. The Rune City Wall suddenly lit up, yet it was still corroded into a deep pit the size of a person. Within the pit, twisting, parasite-like lines writhed together, climbing madly upwards.

They reached the top of the wall at the fastest speed and eerily took shape.

A terrifying humanoid figure with long arms and legs emerged; where its palms and soles should be, there were instead black twisted tendrils like tree roots.

The humanoid figure instantly charged at the soldier statues, engaging them in fierce combat.

At the same time, the headless giant also rushed forward. Its massive footsteps vibrated across the ground, a dreadful presence spreading rapidly.

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!

The other unentangled soldier statues once again bent their bows and notched their arrows.

The arrows whizzed out, like miniature missiles, striking the headless giant. Suddenly, black runes on the surface of the Stone Arrows flashed past.

Tremendous explosions occurred, terrifying fire expanding into balls of flame.

Even the headless giant stumbled in its steps.

But it continued its frenzied charge, swinging its exaggerated greatsword.

However, in a corner of the wall, unbeknownst to when, a massive special City Crossbow had been wheeled out, as big as a small car. The entire crossbow was ten times larger than the bows in the hands of the soldier statues, its hard angles, fierce curves, and an arrow thick as a spear!

Three soldier statues gradually pulled back, and the huge crossbow surface suddenly lit up with magnificent vine-like patterns, its dangerous atmosphere rapidly escalating.

"Hum!"

Bang!!!

The arrow pierced through nearly a hundred meters in an instant, hitting the headless giant.

In a flash, a house-sized crimson fire engulfed it.

The violent shockwave swept away the surrounding fog.

Bai Xiao’s gaze sharpened as he suddenly saw the re-emerging form of the headless giant. Half of its body was directly shattered, only one of the six serpent-like tentacles remained, smoking listlessly. Its heavy Armor was in ruins, and the greatsword, which seemed to possess formidable power, was now only a half-haft.

"That power..."

He was absolutely certain that if he had been hit by it, he would have probably...

It was fortunate that he hadn’t recklessly charged in, relying on his recently surged strength.

The next second, Bai Xiao’s pupils contracted once more with shock.

Because deep within the gray-black fog, from the Imperial Graveyard, enormous creatures revealed their terrifying and majestic outlines. Some crawled out from underground, others rushed over from a distance, or plummeted from the sky.
