Chapter 997

Before she could even voice out the questions, Alexander Foster had already begun to explain.

As he took off his jacket to put it on her, he explained, "This person is Morris, the son of the Kurt Family, about the same age as you, and also one of the competitors in the race."

"This uniform is a symbol of the Kurt Family."

Chloe Collins had some knowledge about the Kurt Family; they were the local nobles, with considerable influence internationally.

They were royal nobles, their status comparable to that of an ancient general’s house, even higher than that.

A bit surprising, she thought, her punch was pretty expensive.

"I came here a week ago, in search of X-3."

Chloe lifted her eyes to him, "Why didn’t you tell me?"

"You’re a student, you should focus on your studies, leave these matters to me."

"I’m not just any student." She took his coat off and asked: "And what does he have to do with X-3?"

Alexander, leading her inside, slowly explained: "Initially, Dr. Natalie Jones ran away here with it, married a local, her husband is Morris’s father. Dr. Jones loved this child dearly, and he accepted her. Later, Dr. Jones disappeared without a reason, was assumed dead a year later. She had a safe in the Kurt house; this safe is guarded by Morris, and only he knows the password."

Chloe blinked: "So, I unknowingly offended the person who could save my life?"

"Don’t worry, it won’t affect anything. Focus on your exams, by the time you’re done, I’ll also be nearly finished."

Chloe stood in front of him, looking into his eyes: "You still haven’t told me why you’re wearing this uniform?"

"They’re hospitable, it was a gift from them."

For a while, Chloe couldn’t find any fault with his reply, even though something about it didn’t quite feel right.

"Did you bring everything with you this time?" Alexander changed the subject.

Her mind was still on Morris.

"Everyone from that year is dead except for Hailey Spence. Do you think it’s a coincidence?"

Alexander bent down, closely staring into her eyes, with a gentle gaze: "See, this is why I kept this from you. You still have an exam, don’t think about these things anymore, okay? I will handle it."

He patted his own shoulder: "My shoulders are wider than yours, let me carry these burdens. Don’t try to shoulder it alone."

Looking at Alexander’s eyes up close, his cold and refined face suddenly reminded her of a memory from their time in the Temple.

The first time they met, she was standing at the courtyard entrance with a pot of medicine, bathed in the afternoon sunshine, looking at the man in the courtyard whose eyes were covered with gauze.

At that time, her heart seemed to have been bitten by something small. Not painful, but numb, as if she was lying on a lone boat, drifting with the flow of the water. Looking up, she could see the vast blue sky, her mood light and cheerful, as though she owned the world.

She gasped slightly, focusing on his eyes, lost in the past.

Her expression made his heart soften, he ruffled her hair and said, "Are you hungry? Let’s go eat, little foodie."

"Did you come here just to have a meal with me?"

"For me, that’s a pressing issue." He took her hand, leading her to the hotel’s gourmet area.

The first floor of the hotel had a comprehensive gourmet area that encompassed specialties from all around the country.

Chloe looked at his hand, not pulling hers away.
