Chapter 903
[Chloe Collins: The adversary’s headquarters must be overseas. Even if the authorities find out, it’ll still be very difficult to punish them. Besides, we haven’t investigated their background yet, so we can’t rush into any actions.]
[David Eastwood: Understood. But who shall we send over to keep them entertained this time?]
Just as Chloe Collins was about to reply, there was a knock on the door.
She put down her phone and went to answer the door.
Upon opening it, she saw Alexander Foster, who said: "Dr. Hailey may have been killed."
This news hit her abruptly, and Chloe Collins was left stunned for a couple of seconds.
"May have been?" Chloe Collins asked.
"Yes, the photos sent back from the crime scene indicate that her home was burned down. A body was found in the remains, but we can’t be certain that it was her."
In the midst of their conversation, Chloe Collins’ phone was continuously buzzing. It was message alerts from a group chat.
Alexander glanced at her phone and suggested Chloe check the messages first.
She picked up the phone and her eyebrows furrowed as she read them.
"What happened?"
Chloe Collins replied: "That case I mentioned earlier to you? The authorities set up a special investigation team to look into it. One of the team members was conducting a personal investigation in the mountains while we were busy last night. Now he has disappeared. I think he must have been taken along with those experiment subjects."
Exactly, at that time, in the [United Loving Family] chat, David Eastwood had just received the latest news from the investigation team and had forwarded it immediately.
"Thankfully, the missing man was in continuous contact with the team. They had installed a tracker on him; the team is planning to follow the signal."
Alexander frowned: "The governmental intervention in this matter will make things quite complicated."
She paced the room and said, "My mother once told me that the most significant discovery of that experiment happened right when the government ordered the experiment to be halted. I think that this group of people might be the same from back then,"
Alexander nodded: "There’s a ninety percent chance they are. Only those in the previous experiment would have full control of all the core secrets and the foundation to continue the research."
Chloe Collins looked determined: "We have to find them."
"You mentioned the investigation team earlier. Maybe we could use it as a starting point, with the government providing us with cover, it would be much easier to get things done," Alexander suggested.
She nodded, "That’s what I was thinking. I’ve decided to go check it out myself."
"Aren’t you taking me with you?" Alexander asked, his eyes tender and full of her.
Chloe Collins cleared her throat lightly, "Don’t you... have to work?"
"Don’t you have to go to school?" Alexander gently retorted.
She stared into his eyes for a moment before bowing her head and letting out a chuckle.
Then she said, "Alright, let’s go together."
That same day, Chloe Collins and Wanda Wesley returned to the Training Squad to discuss the matter of continuing their leave.
If it did not work out, they decided they would quit the squad and apply to continue their studies from home.
Inside the teacher’s office, Sherry Sullivan and Simon Griffin were discussing the ongoing investigation when Chloe Collins and Wanda walked in. They kept the girls waiting for ten minutes before allowing them in.
The teachers had decided on punishing the girls by sentencing them to clean the entire building for a week, followed by copying texts.
When Simon heard that Chloe Collins wanted to apply for leave again, he slammed on the desk in a rage, his voice echoed throughout the building, attracting attention.
Curious spectators gathered around. Some were taking photos and laughing; others reprimanded Chloe Collins and Wanda Wesley for disrespecting the rules. Even more were hoping for the two girls to quit the squad permanently and never return.
Simon wasn’t in the best of moods that day, so he yelled: "Don’t even bother showing up anymore! Pack your stuff and get out today!"
