Chapter 1046

Chloe Collins slowly walked back, her head lowered as her gaze rested on her feet. Suddenly, a pair of men’s leather shoes appeared in her line of vision.

She lifted her head, her lips curling slightly as she looked at the man standing before her.

In Alexander Foster’s hands was a thick stack of neatly organised documents. The cover bore the word "Volume II". He had spent the whole day writing the new Chapters, continuing from where he had left off the night before. He had just finished and brought them out, not wanting to keep her waiting.

As he was about to speak, he noticed the exhaustion in her eyes. He paused, gently tugging on a strand of her hair and asking softly, "What did your grandfather tell you?"

Chloe managed a tired smile.

"May I..."

"Hmm?"

She moved closer without saying anything, her arms circling his waist as she leaned against him. Her cheek rested on his shoulder and she closed her eyes peacefully - a beautiful scene that looked as if a pixie was sleeping.

Alexander, surprised at first, showed a gentle and tolerant smile, rubbing her head lightly with his hand.

"Did Grandfather upset you?" He asked softly.

Chloe released him and looked up at him, "Do I look upset?"

"Very." He lowered his gaze to meet hers, "See, looks like you’re about to cry."

Chloe squinted her eyes, "You’re crying, I’m not."

"Tell me what Grandfather said to you?" His voice was soft, akin to cajoling a child.

Chloe opened her eyes wide, took a step forward and light-heartedly said, "Secret."

After she said so, she took the newly written Chapters from him and said, "At this pace, can you wrap up by tomorrow?"

"Chlo-Chlo, quit changing the subject. What did Grandfather say?"

"I told you it’s a secret, no questions." There was a faint smile on her lips, suggesting that the secret might be something pleasant.

He smiled and no longer pressed her.

"Not yet." He returned to her earlier question, "Really curious? I can tell you all about it, consider it a bedtime story."

The latter half was said in a teasing tone.

"Sure, let’s start tonight." She said.

A surprised delight flashed in the man’s eyes-

"Tell me over the phone." She added.

The man laughed, "Are you scared I might eat you up?"

"I’m afraid I might eat you up." Chloe repeated his words, her tone full of certainty.

Later, after dinner at the Taylors’, Madam Taylor accompanied the Cobb family to the door and happily went upstairs.

As she reached the stairway, she collided with her hurriedly descending son, Reginald Taylor.

"Where are you going so late at night?"

"Er, I need to step out!" Reginald said with a guilty look, not even sparing a glance at his mother as he quickly fled downstairs.

Upon reaching the garage, his phone rang.

He looked around before taking the call.

"Husband, when are you coming over?" A soft feminine voice came through, sending a thrill through him.

"Oh dear, I’m on my way already. We had family over tonight, didn’t I mention it before? Honey, I’ll be there shortly."

He hung up, then moved to open his car door.

"Husband!"

"Ah!"

Cold sweat trickled down his spine.

He looked up to see his wife on the second-floor balcony, his heart leapt into his throat!

His wife seemed suspicious, "Didn’t you say your client was in a hurry? Why are you still here?"

His rigid smile relaxed, "Well, I’m just about to leave. Right away!"

Inside Madam Taylor’s room.

Madam Taylor sat at the edge of her bed, looking at her late husband’s picture with a smile, "Now things can start looking up for the Taylors. You must bless our son from below, he’ll make the Taylors even more successful."

After speaking, she put the photograph away and opened a drawer, then her gaze was drawn to a box.

"What’s this?"

She took the box out and curiosity piqued, she opened it, revealing a stack of letters.

"Where did these come from?"

Out of curiosity, she opened a letter. A look of shock replaced her calm demeanor as if she had just seen a ferocious beast, and she frantically threw the box away.
