Chapter 54: Untrue Assumptions.

This was annoying. Her blood stirred up as she picked up her phone.

Arissa could not understand why but the thought of calling Collins is.... - for the first time, calling Collins left her contemplating.

She looked at her phone again but dropped it immediately. And with a deep soothing breath, she picked up her phone and dialed his number.

Dailing his number, her heart dropped but still, she pressed the call button and Collins answered in just two rings.

"Collins," she called as she stood up from her bed and walked to her vanity window, staring at herself to make sure her reaction doesn’t drop and also, to know if she do have feelings for Collins.

"Mmh," Collins hummed from the other end. He was extremely excited she called. He lost hope she would call since it was now an hour since they left but at the same time, he do not let his excitement leak out through his voice.

Arissa’s face dropped. Why did he reply to her this way?

He’s always cheerful to her so why was he using this voice or was he still mad at her? - she bit her lips at the possibility and another wave of hatred toward Nicklaus clouded her heart.

"Are you mad at me?" she asked with her signature neutral voice as she shut all questions away and her voice stronger.

Collins rubbed his forehead realizing that she might have misunderstood his tune. Mad at her? No! He never would be and that’s the last emotion he wants her to feel from him.

Right now, he has to work on winning her heart.

"I did not plan his arrival there," she continued, apologizing like a teenager whose dad ruined her date with her boyfriend because he doesn’t like the boy.

She’s doing this to understand her feeling and at the same time, does not want to get hurt in the process.

"Mmh, okay," Collins replied simply as he do not understand her reason for apologizing over something as petty as this. Knowing her, and does not apologize until a tug of war ensures.

Hearing him, Arissa’s brows lifted.

He wasn’t mad? - wait, what was she thinking? Why would he be mad in the first place? But at the same time, she placed herself in his shoes.

She surely would get mad if someone walks out of her that way.

"Okay," she replied curtly.

"I’d leave in a week. Can I plan for another lunch with you?" he asked, stopping Arissa from hanging up on him.

Arissa walked away from her vanity mirror, "Okay,"

Collins let out an audible breath he never knew he had been holding and with that, Arissa smiled.

"I have to go now," Collins said lowly from the other end and if Arissa heard right, his voice sounded like he did not want to or was she hallucinating?

And without answering that, Arissa hung up, making it easier for him.

Pwwtt!

She let out a breath and dropped on her bed.

"The feelings are still neutral," she said to herself in confirmation.

With the confirmation, she felt the urge to smack the back of Nicklaus’s head. How dare he plant such untrue thoughts into her head?

She opened the door and stood for a while, staring at Nicklaus’s door before her. And with an irritated sigh, she walked to the door.

This is her only chance since he was unwell to smack that head of his. She walked to the door without hesitation and almost turned the doorknob, the elevator "dinged" and Mrs. Wyatt walked out of it.

Arissa’s hand dropped to her side the moment she saw who walked out of the elevator and with caution, she stepped away from Nicklaus’s door.

"Arissa," Mrs. Wyatt called with care, holding the sides of the tray she was with firmly.

And then, her eyes scanned all over Arissa, "Why are you out of your room?" she asked Arissa and Arissa’s expression turned to confusion. Was she no longer allowed out of her room?

Arissa did not reply to Mrs. Wyatt’s absorb question and her brows lifted when Mrs. Wyatt turned to her door instead of Nicklaus - or so Arissa thought since he needed her attention.

Seeing Mrs. Wyatt now standing before her door, Arissa walked away from Nicklaus’s door and went to her door.

Opening it, she stepped in and provided apace for Mrs. Wyatt to walk in, "How do you feel?" Mrs. Wyatt asked as she walked into the room.

Arissa’s brows raised at the question.

"I don’t feel weak," she answered shutting the door behind Mrs Wyatt.

"Nicklaus called this morning saying you were unwell," Mrs. Wyatt explained hearing the confusion in Arissa’s reply.

Arissa’s face scrunched at the misunderstanding. Nicklaus was the one unwell and not her. So?

"I’m sorry I wasn’t able to come earlier. So, how are you now?" Mrs Wyatt asked cutting Arissa off her thought as she placed the tray of food which was soup on the room mini dining table beside the French window.

And now, Arissa realized where the misunderstanding came from. Mrs. Wyatt was talking about the headache she told Nicklaus about after she had that terrifying nightmare.

But at the same time, why did Nicklaus call his mother and inform her? Her eyes rolled fantastically with the thought that he might be some mummy boy.

An inner chuckle erupted in her chest at the thought.

Mrs. Wyatt turned over to Arissa after arranging the table. She gently beckoned Arissa to walk to her which Arissa did and without waiting, her hand went up to Arissa’s forehead checking her temperature.

Arissa blinked with surprise at the act.

She wanted to step away but the warmth she felt from Mrs Wyatt’s back palm when it went to her check made her stay put and without reason, her heart tightened with the urge to cry.

Mrs Wyatt rushed down hearing she was unwell. She knew Mrs. Wyatt was on vacation but with a slight change of health from her, she rushed down.

Something her mother had never done.

Back when she and Adele were younger, a maid always took care of them when they turn ill but now, a strange lady was concerned with her health.

"Do you feel anything in your inner body?" Mrs. Wyatt asked cutting Arissa off her thoughts.

"No. I’m well now. I was just stressed out with my thoughts," Arissa answered truthfully with a low voice.

Mrs. Wyatt let out a sigh of relief and tucked a strand of Arissa’s hair lovingly behind the girl’s ear, she smiled lovingly at her and gave her palm out to Arissa to hold.

Arissa stared at Mrs Wyatt’s palm and with a deep breath out, she took the woman’s hand and for once, allowed the woman’s comfort to spread through her body and mind.

And to be honest, the feeling was blissful.

Covering Arissa’s palm with her other palm, Mrs. Wyatt looked up at her. "You have me here if the ocean gets too stormy, okay?" Mrs. Wyatt assured.

Arissa’s eyes stung at Mrs Wyatt’s statement and the tears threatened to come out in full force. Her heart trembled and she immediately swallowed to stop them from flowing. And for the first time, she wished this woman was her mother. Maybe, her life would have not been this way.

Seeing all mothers in the same light as her mother, Arissa had never wished for another female to be her mother but slowly, Mrs. Wyatt was making an exception for herself.

She honestly does not understand why Mrs. Wyatt is so kind but her words hit her deep. The words replayed in her memory and stamped themselves in her heart.

And with a sad smile, she nodded at Mrs Wyatt and without hesitation, Mrs Wyatt embraced Arissa who also did not waste a moment and rested her chin on Mrs. Wyatt’s shoulder.
