His Toxic Addiction
Chapter 284: She Broke Him First.

Chapter 284: She Broke Him First.

Mrs. Wyatt looked at her with surprise. "You might no longer want a divorce?" she asked straightforwardly to understand Arissa. The young woman before her kept on moving in circles with her feelings.

Arissa mouthed an ’oh’ with an expression that said; maybe. And then she smiled without saying anything.

Mrs. Wyatt blinked at her.

Arissa brought the glass of juice to her lips and took slow sips from it without taking her eyes off Mrs. Wyatt’s own.

Mrs. Wyatt held her gaze, "Do you feel something for my son?" her voice was filled with hope.

Arissa would not ask her such a question if she didn’t feel anything, would she? If the couple could make it work between themselves, she promised to stand with them and fight any obstacles on the way.

She could see in her son’s actions that he loves his wife but Arissa wasn’t giving her clues and her hope lies on what Arissa would reply to this question.

Arissa’s eyes widened. She took her eyes away from Mrs. Wyatt’s stare and gently dropped her glass back on the tray.

She chuckled softly, fighting the blush about to creep up to her face due to how fast her heart raced. "I do not feel anything," Arissa lied, "I only want to know what happens if we decide to risk all of this and continue our marriage or screw things up,"

Arissa sounded convincing enough but Mrs. Wyatt refused to believe her immediately. She studied Arissa’s body language, trying to believe her.

The information she was letting out was risky. She doubted Arissa would tell this to her father after what he tried to do to her and also, she wanted the couples to trust themselves better, which was why she spilled deep secrets about the contract.

Mrs. Wyatt does not want her son to be alone with what his heart is beginning to develop. She wanted the both of them to be together in the feeling.

She wasn’t sentimental because her son fell first. She would also try to join them together if Arissa was the one who fell first.

Arissa does not look like someone who feels something for her son and it disturbs her that things have to be this way.

Nicklaus deserved love and happiness after all he had gone through and she wished for nothing more than to give him all of that and more. Perhaps, he was not born into this world to be fulfilled by a woman.

His mother first broke him first and with what she’s seeing now, if Arissa does the same to dump him after he pours out all his love on her, she believed her son would be doomed.

Looking afar into the city from Arissa’s French window, she replied, "They would no longer have legal assets to the benefits your parents have to offer if you both continue as a couple without terminating the contract."

Arissa’s brows furrowed. All of this stuff concerning the contract sounded confusing. For her, the cunning benefits aren’t enough.

She would want her parents to suffer more but at the same time, she does not want to divorce her husband which would benefit her parents.

Arissa looked down at her rug and thought deeply about the whole issue. With all of this information, Mrs. Wyatt let out plus the ones she was holding back on, Arissa realized she had to tread carefully if she loved Nicklaus and wanted to make them work.

And now, she also realizes she has to understand the whole of everything before trying to take a place in Nicklaus’s heart.

She would not want him to be in a tight position all because of what she wants him to feel for her.

Arissa licked her lower lip and raised her face to Mrs. Wyatt, "The benefit from my parents.... would Nicklaus also benefit from it?"

Mrs. Wyatt’s lips curled into a small sweet smile. She expected Arissa to be schmaltzy about all of these but the girl kept on surprising her with her questions and now, her caring about Nicklaus made her eyes watery.

"He would and that’s the position he would receive from the promotion. But if you decide to continue your marriage after two years or terminate the contract so early to have a normal marriage life, he would have to step down from his position which would break the company," she explained further for Arissa to understand.

Arissa bit her inner lips and turned away from Mrs. Wyatt. Her heart broke and her eyes stung for how difficult Mrs. Wyatt explained everything to be.

"What if we have kids? Would things become easier?" she asked, still looking away. She felt the idea of kids would strengthen things.

Mrs. Wyatt stared at Arissa with a desire to understand the young lady before her. Arissa does not sound like she feels anything for her son but her questions do.

"Kids?" she repeated, "You can have kids together but it won’t guarantee anything. Nicklaus would take full custody of the kids and his promotion would grow to a greater level for the presence of an heir. Be it any gender,"

Arissa’s jaw drooped to the floor. She turned to Mrs. Wyatt, feeling stupid. She tried not to feel this way but she could not help it.

At first, she thought Nicklaus honestly wanted kids from her only to learn this now and it shattered her heart.

He sounded genuine whenever they spoke about kids and she almost felt for it. She felt so bad and her tears finally rolled down.

Mrs. Wyatt’s heart drooped when she saw tears rolling down Arissa’s eyes, "Dear, did I say something?" she asked hurriedly, confused.

Arissa shook her head, "I only want to hug you," she sniffed, "Can I?"

Mrs. Wyatt nodded and without wasting a second more, she stood up and moved towards Arissa.

Arissa dried her eyes with her palm. She stood up when Mrs. Wyatt moved toward her, with her heart out seeking comfort, She hugged Mrs. Wyatt tight.
