Chapter 278: A Ring.
As he promised, Nicklaus let her sleep while he slowly cleaned her up. He was careful not to let water touch her hair. She made small sounds a couple of times but it wasn’t enough to wake her.
Done with cleaning her, Nicklaus dried her body and took her into the bedroom. Arissa has never been a deep sleeper but things changed ever since she knew Nicklaus.
She was scared to trust him with her heart but her brain already trusted him so much and it was evident by the fact that she stayed fast asleep until he put her on one of his shirts and shorts before tucking her under his red duvet.
Nicklaus did not leave. He stayed beside her for minutes, simply caressing her face and smiling at her in silence.
Five minutes later, his expression turned serious and his lips parted, "You’re an angel," he murmured.
He took the duvet off her and placed his hand on his stomach, "You do not know how bad I want my mini-me inside of you," he said with a small smile.
He took his hand off her stomach and covered her back with the duvet, "But it’s no crime if you don’t want to. We still have so many days ahead and I hope we get better as the second ticks," he told her as if she was awake.
Suddenly, Arissa said garbage nonsense while he talked and he paused to listen to her. He heard nothing and this made him admire how cute she was.
"You’re so cute," Nicklaus went on. The incorrect words she spilled out made him feel as if they were holding a conversation.
He leaned in and kissed her on her nose, "I would want our first child, if a girl to be named, Hila, Devira, or Nessa. You would be the one to pick from these three and if a boy," he chuckled, "We would call him, Itai or Rafael."
He caressed her lips with his thumb, "You have all rights to disagree with me if you don’t love Hebrew names,"
Saying that he kissed her cheeks and tucked her into the duvet and rolled away from her. He sat at the edge of the bed and tapped his right foot on the floor in deep thought.
’What would be left of me if she leaves?’ he asked himself staring hard at the floor. He turned his face to her again and ran his hand mindlessly through his hair.
He knew he had fallen for her but he never expected that he would keep on falling each second of the day, whether she was with him or she wasn’t.
He stood up from the bed and went into the bathroom. After refreshing and cleaning all the broken and putting a particular box into his pocket, he left the room.
Nicklaus headed downstairs, straight to the kitchen. It was dinner time already and he knew his mother would be there.
Mrs. Wyatt faced the door when she heard footsteps. Her face brightened more with a wide smile on her lips.
"You returned early," she declared.
Nicklaus’s expression was reserved as he walked further into the kitchen. Standing before Mrs. Wyatt, he enveloped the woman in a sudden warm embrace.
Stunned, Mrs. Wyatt dropped the hand towel she was holding and hugged her son back. She was overwhelmed by the hug and she was almost close to tears.
"Thank you," Nicklaus said, burying his face into Mrs. Wyatt’s shoulder taking comfort from her.
Mrs. Wyatt’s heart leaped for joy, "Thank you? What for?"
Nicklaus chuckled and parted the hug. Standing straight, he held both sides of the woman’s hands, looked into her eyes, and said, "For finding me a wife,"
Mrs. Wyatt’s eyes widened.
Nicklaus lifted himself and sat on the Marble island, "We are on good terms now," he hoped picking up an apple from the fruit basket.
Mrs. Wyatt was so touched that she had to hold back her tears. "You don’t sound sure, son," she noticed.
Nicklaus threw the apple into the air and caught it, "As it should be. I’ve said it before, she’s okay this moment and the next moment, she becomes cold again,"
Seeing him throw an apple in such a playful manner without a care of the world, she gave him a nod of approval. Finally, he was becoming less hard on himself and showing her his other side.
"She would get better as time goes on. I married out of love but still, I never felt okay all the time. This is a contract marriage between the both of you and you have to know that sometimes, that sense kicks in harshly," she told him.
Nicklaus nodded in understanding, "I got her a ring,"
"A ring?!"
Nicklaus nodded calmly, "I did," he rubbed his hand on his face, "But I do not know how to put it on her," he brought the ring box out of his pant pocket and showed it to his mother.
"Oh my!" she gushed over the ring, "This is beautiful,"
Nicklaus stared down at the ring, "It is," he raised his face to Mrs. Wyatt, "Would it be okay if I put it on her without a wedding?"
Mrs. Wyatt met Nicklaus’s eyes, "If you’re talking about a real wedding, I think you should talk to her about this," she said softly.
Nicklaus nodded and closed the ring box.
"Where’s she?" Mrs. Wyatt over Arissa.
Nicklaus dropped the apple and climbed down from the kitchen island, "She’s asleep and I want her to rest more. She would be hungry when she wakes up, is there something I can do to help?"
Mrs. Wyatt choked on her saliva hearing Nicklaus, "H_help?" she stuttered.
Nicklaus nodded. This was his first time asking her of such so he did not mind her reaction.
Mrs. Wyatt struggled to keep her tears in, "Keep her," she gave him a proud nod of approval before pulling him into a hug.
