Chapter 262: Wounds Heal Best With Patience.
Adele sat on the bed and stared at Arissa for a moment. You could say she was figuring something out due to how concentrated her eyes fixed on Arissa were.
Jocelyn sat at Arissa’s right-hand side and pulled her friend into a side hug, "All these tears would bring no solution," she advised.
Adele kept quiet, asserting the situation at hand and also trying to control her emotions. Something told her Arissa took her place. She was also forced to get married for the company but refused and when she did, she ended up with the worst fate than an unwanted marriage thank God she survived it.
She also believed Arissa got married because of her. The sister she knows and grew up with never had plans to get married this early.
Arissa had always told her how she wants her married life to be and the marriage she was into right now does not match what her sister wants but at least the man ruled her imagination for a handsome man.
His handsomeness broke her imagination and standards for a handsome man. He looked like a walking god of handsomeness on Earth. Perhaps he bribed the angel who gave people handsomeness to get so handsome.
Coming back to the issue at hand, Adele placed a soft hand on Arissa’s shoulder, "Stop crying and tell me how all of this happened," she said, "Why you came back, how you met Nicklaus, how you got married, and why you are crying now. Tell me all, I want to know all of it,"
Arissa took her hand to her face and pushed all of her hair away from her face. "Promise me not to get mad no matter what you would hear," her voice came out hoarse.
"You would always be my sister and for that reason, I want you to speak freely," she said before nodding, "I promise not to get mad,"
Arissa smiled at the assurance. She needed that assurance a lot and backed up by the assurance, she parted her lips and began to tell Adele how it all happened.
She skipped no details, she narrated the event as if it happened just a minute ago before her. She did not even skip the information that her parents were also contracted couples and that earned a shocked gasp from Adele’s lips.
However, Adele did not interrupt and let Arissa go on with her narration. And when it came to the part where she came in, Adele’s expression twisted with emotions.
She kept quiet but could no longer listen to more words when Arissa mentioned the contract signing and how she had to do it so she can be moved to a hospital.
She cut Arissa off, "You shouldn’t have done that,"
"You promised not to get mad," Arissa reminded her firmly, "And again, I had to. You would have done the same if you were in my shoes,"
Adele shook her head. She pushed closest to Arissa and took her sister’s hands in her, wrapping them into her fists, "Arissa you are their blood. No matter what, they won’t hurt you. Alfred loves you even if he doesn’t show it often and that alone shows how you would have been free from all of these if you had let me die,"
Hearing the irony in Adele’s words, Arissa simply smiled, remembering what happened between her and the man Adele said would not hurt her. She would not have been before them speaking if Nicklaus have arrived late.
"Don’t be selfish, Adele," Jocelyn spoke up, "How do you think Arissa would go on living, knowing she has the power to save you?"
Adele fixed her eyes on Jocelyn, "That would be better than watching her cry this way over a man. Do you think she is happy?"
Jocelyn countered immediately, "And do you think her life would have been happier if she had watched you die?"
Adele paused, speechless.
"Don’t make it look like you are ungrateful," Jocelyn went on, softly, "You are now awake and the only thing we can do is to pray that Nicklaus accepts her desire for a divorce,"
"What!!" Arissa finally added herself to their argument, conversations, or whatever you would call it, "A divorce?"
Her eyes darted between Adele and Jocelyn, "I do not want to divorce, Nicklaus," she affirmed firmly.
Jocelyn almost sobbed with how Arissa said it - finally a change but say it came with so much hurts and prices. Adele’s grip on Arissa’s hands tightened with her eyes searching Arissa’s own.
Arissa held her sister’s eyes, "I do not want to divorce Nicklaus," she repeated.
Adele’s eyes turned questioning, "Why so? You can not divorce him or you do not want to?"
"I do not want to," Arissa affirmed, "I see a lot of future with him even if I do not want any,"
Jocelyn ruffled Arissa’s hair fondly from the back, "That choice is left for you to decide on."
Arissa turned to her, "How about, Nicklaus? He_"
"Nicklaus? Nicklaus loves you." Jocelyn cut her off, "I don’t know what you call love but his whole emotions and actions around you explain he loves you."
Arissa shook her head stubbornly and faced Adele, "Nicklaus can not love anyone again and even if he can, it would not be so fast. It might take a decade,"
Jocelyn’s brows tightened, "Why a decade?"
Arissa shrugged her shoulders trying to push her heart problems away, "That’s how it should be and I do not blame him if he keeps it that way."
Adele nodded, beginning to follow up with the whole conversation, "You love him?" her voice sounded shocked.
At first, she would have believed Arissa loved Nicklaus but not anymore. Their marriage must not be one to have love in it so she wanted confirmation from the horse’s mouth.
"I do. I love Nicklaus," Arissa confessed with a lost smile on her face, "But he doesn’t feel the same way about me and never would. His ex did a great job when she made him fall for her and now, I’m the one who would suffer it the most. Nicklaus also struggles but he struggles with her departure. I struggle with the feeling that my husband, my very own husband is still in love with his ex and I love him but can never do anything about it, neither can I let him know about it," she said in one breath, trying hard not to sob.
Her chest raised up and down, her breath fastened, "I saw Nicklaus for who he is the very first second he showed me what care felt like. I tried to be nonchalant about this whole thing but I never knew my nonchalant towards it only hastened the whole feelings,"
Jocelyn giggled, amused, "I warned you, right?"
Arissa stared hopelessly at Jocelyn before turning to Adele for a piece of advice, "Say something,"
"Tell him you love him. Don’t just say mere words to him. If his ex damaged him so badly as you said, help him to heal. I repeat, do not give him space to heal but help him to heal. The fact he told you about his ex screams progress and I want you to build up that progress and not let it crumble," Adele suggested but sounded more like she was giving an order, "Mere words won’t help so much and for that reason, I want you to show him you love him. Feed him love from all angles, occasionally telling him how much he means to you. It doesn’t sound this easy and you have all the time in the world to do this. Do not hasten things up,"
She used a finger to list Arissa’s chin up, "This might be hard but don’t give up and whenever he approaches you, give him all care and attention he needs. Be soft on him just like you would be with a baby. Wounds heal better with care and heal best with patience,"
Arissa sniffed in a sob and pulled Adele into a tight hug Adele never saw coming, "Thank you,"
Arissa saw the look in Nicklaus’s eyes this morning but she believed Adele’s words and prays they would work on their relationship and on her actions with him.
