Chapter 248: Tiny Pieces Of Love.
Morning came quickly for Arissa. Her soft snores were cut short when the sun’s rays filtered themselves through Nicklaue’s balcony curtains and casted shades of light on her face.
It was surprising to feel the sun, considering it rained last night. Her brows furrowed from her sleep and she turned to the other side of the bed seeking comfort.
However, her eyes shot open when she did not feel the comfort she needed from a particular body.
Her sleepy eyes blinked with haze. She opened her eyes and to her disappointment, no one lay with her.
She sighed softly and touched Nicklaus’s spot and it was cold. So cold like nobody rested on that spot.
She felt the spot more, tapping on it like Nicklaus was inside the sheets. No one was there and it broke her heart he left her all alone.
He promised her last night that he would always be with her. So, what happened now? It was only a few minutes past seven, was his work more important?
Memories of last night played before her face but she began to doubt it. If they shared such a moment earlier, he would have been here with her. She remembered how he even hugged her to sleep.
But she was in his room, laying on his bed and that was another solid reason for her to believe her memory.
She gulped with loneliness and rolled over to his spot. She drew the duvet back to her nose and let his icy scent surround her.
Her head hurt a little which helped in reminding her about what almost happened in her life.
She wondered how her father would be feeling right now. In fact, where would he be? Did Nicklaus let him go? And how about that nurse? What happened to Jocelyn and Adele?
All these questions added up to increase her headache. She sat up and looked towards Nicklaus’s bathroom direction.
’He might be in there,’ she thought.
Rubbing her bandaged head, she proceed to go and see for herself but before her feet would touch the floor, a knock resounded on the door.
She gulped tiredly and started at the door clueless about what to do. She doesn’t have Nicklaus’s card nor does she know his pins.
Another knock resounded and the door was opened from the outside. Mrs. Wyatt walked in alongside the doctor who once treated her arm.
"You’re awake!" Mrs. Wyatt exclaimed the moment her eyes landed on Arissa and she rushed towards the figure on the bed.
"Easy, be careful not to shake her too much," the doctor said from behind Mrs. Wyatt.
Mrs. Wyatt said nothing to him and rushed toward her daughter-in-law. Getting to her, she enveloped Arissa in a tight hug.
"Mrs. Wyatt," Arissa called from the hug. The woman acted a little too dramatic which made Arissa wonder how long she had been asleep.
Mrs. Wyatt parted the hug, sat before Arissa, and cupped the girl’s face like she was an egg, "How do you feel?"
Arissa gave her a small smile, "I feel okay,"
Mrs. Wyatt smiled at her, "Poor child," she uttered, tears almost welled in her eyes. Her hand felt the bandage on Arissa’s head.
Mrs. Wyatt shake her head, "I’m sorry," she muttered. And now, Mrs. Wyatt’s tears rolled down and she gripped Arissa into another hug.
Arissa felt the woman care and her eyes turned heavy with unshed tears. She wrapped her hand around the woman’s back and buried her face into Mrs. Wyatt’s shoulders.
"I’m fine now," Arissa sniffed.
She wondered if Mrs. Wyatt knows what happened. She raised her face from Mrs. Wyatt’s shoulder and her eyes collided with the doctor’s own.
She gave him a small smile before pulling away from the hug, "How long has it been?" she asked.
Mrs. Wyatt smiled sadly, "Almost two days. You had me worried," the older woman said.
When Arissa lost consciousness, she saw the new Nicklaus slipping from her fingers with each passing second. She doesn’t want to go back to dealing with the old Nicklaus and that made her scared to her bones.
She loved Arissa, the girl was already a daughter to her but the dramatic change back to his previous self Nicklaus almost encountered scared her the most.
Arissa sighed, "I’m sorry," she said, wiping the woman’s tears off her face. She wishes her mother have a tiny piece of love this woman has towards her.
No matter what, Laura was her mother and she could not help that side in her heart that yearned for a mother’s love, and gladly, this woman was beginning to fill that space up.
She wondered what would happen after the divorce. Would Mrs. Wyatt still show her this much love?
She thought back to when she first met this woman, and how cold the woman sounded while speaking to her mother. Comparing it to how soft and loving she was with her, Arissa’s heart felt detected.
All of this love would end the moment the divorce commences and then she would be left motherless again.
Mrs. Wyatt turned to Mr. Williams, "What are you waiting for? Come and check up on her," she ordered him hurriedly as if Arissa was already whining in so much pain.
Mr. Williams cleared his throat. At times, he forgets the whole family has the same temper and attitude.
Arissa beamed at Mrs. Wyatt’s attitude. So bad all of this love, attention, and care would end after the divorce.
"Where is Nicklaus?" Mrs. Wyatt asked, noticing that bad temper son of hers wasn’t in the room.
Arissa surveyed the room first and met her eyes, "I don’t know. I woke up alone," she said.
Mrs. Wyatt massaged her temples, "That boy," she murmured wondering why he don’t know when the time was right to show how much he cared.
He cared so much when she was asleep and almost wreaked havoc around. Now she’s awake, he ought to be here and show how much he cared but he was nowhere to be found.
How stupid my son is, she thought.
