Chapter 223: She Can’t Bring Herself To Hurt Him.
"Was that some kind of joke?"
These words left Jocelyn’s lips the moment Arissa opened the door from the inside. A frown scarred her face for waiting out with a tray but when she saw Arissa’s messy appearance, her naughty sense kicked in, killing all of her previous outbursts.
She was furious when Nicklaus snapped at her that way but not anymore. The couple can’t keep their hands off themselves, how lovely!
So for that reason, Jocelyn forgave the couple and walked into the ward with the tray. "Where’s Nicklaus?" she asked halfway to the small dining they usually use.
"Using the bathroom," Arissa answered closing the door. "Where is the nurse?"
Jocelyn dropped the tray on the table. "Probably off to give reports to whoever sent her here," she said.
"What do you mean? Did you find something on her?"
"I don’t need a whole paper as evidence to know she’s dangerous. Your instinct is right and I’m also having a huge suspicion about a particular person who’s capable to send her here," Jocelyn replied setting the table.
Arissa walked to the table and took the seat opposite Jocelyn, "My father? Right?" it wasn’t a question as she was sure of it.
This time around, Mr. Adams wasn’t her suspect, all understanding in her body placed her father above all of the people who could do this.
Jocelyn nodded and immediately, Arissa’s face darkened. "Let’s eat first. We can’t afford to ruin our mood." Jocelyn advised.
Arissa clenched her teeth, "Hasn’t she had enough? I paid him already, haven’t I? I’m married into the Wyatt family or was there something more I should have done that I did not do?"
’The documents,’ her inner voice replied to her. Arissa’s emotions blew up when her inner voice referred to that.
’How would I give him what he never worked for? And how am I supposed to get that? Do you even think?’ she furiously battled her inner voice like it was human.
’I was just saying,’ her inner voice replied in a surrendering voice before keeping quiet.
Arissa clicked her tongue, ’Keep shut,’ she snapped at the voice.
"If you ask me, I’d say he has a private issue with whoever Adele’s parents are, or he wants something from you..." she searched her friend’s face, "..which you refused to give,"
"Documents," Arissa said in clarification. "He wants the whole of Wyatt’s company ownership documents," she opened up in a hushed tune.
Jocelyn’s eyes widened, "..and?" she gave her a look asking; ’Would you?’
"I would do no such thing," Arissa answered, "I can’t bring myself to hurt Nicklaus to end all of these. Even if it won’t hurt him, I can’t do what that man is asking. I’m trying every way possible to make sure he would spend the rest of his life in jail. A little threat as this won’t shake me. He should do all he wants and all he can do for now." she shrugged and relaxed on the seat, "he is free to threaten me while he can. I’m beginning to enjoy the game also."
Though her voice was sharp and dark, she wished she could turn back the hand of the clock to prevent all of these from happening. Her words came from her heart yet she knew it would hurt her when everything would occur under her watch.
It doesn’t end with her badly wanting to see him rot in jail. One question was, could she? Could she watch them rot in jail? No matter what happens, those two people who ruined her and Adele this way were her parents, they birthed her.
Due to her deep respect for the law of karma, Arissa was beginning to feel like the antagonist in the whole story even if she was only seeking justice.
Jocelyn felt sorry for her friend. The air was charged with ill feelings, so she changed the conversation to something else. "Have you called Collins?" she questioned.
Arissa nodded as she scratched her non-itching hair to calm down. She can’t wait to jail that man. Fuck, Karma!
Jocelyn hummed, "I tried a thousand times and he won’t reply," she opened the dishes, "Seems you are still the fastest poison to him,"
Arissa choked on her saliva.
Her head turned to the bathroom door. Though she can’t see the door and won’t know if he was about to come out, she still had to check.
"What do you think about Collins?" Jocelyn went on, not minding Arissa not welcoming expression towards the topic nor how she started at the bathroom angle.
"I’m a married woman." Arissa simply said to end the conversation. Shutting her eyes for a short prayer, she began eating the moment she opened them so that the questions would stop.
"I know you are a married woman," Jocelyn refused to back down and at her words, Arissa almost spit out the food in her mouth. Was there something wrong with Jocelyn?
"If he had confessed his feelings to you earlier, and at a different time, would you have accepted it?" she asked.
"I have a husband. Let’s live in the reality that I have a husband with no different time zone," Arissa said flatly. She doesn’t like this conversation and it showed all over her face.
Jocelyn shrugged. She was curious to know how deep her friend have fallen for her husband so, she continued, "If Nicklaus wasn’t_"
Arissa’s cut her off, her expression turned stern, "Nicklaus is now in my life, Lyn." she turned to the bathroom angle, "Bury this conversation and let’s have a peaceful meal,"
Jocelyn tried not to smile. In the process, she even bit her lips and still ended up smiling. Her friend’s love story was so cute.
She doesn’t even want to imagine a life without him. How cute! But then, when would they confess it and let go of the contract? She could tell Nicklaus also feel the same.
The way he looked at her was enough evidence but her dumb thick-headed friend haven’t seen that yet. It was annoying and at the same time comical.
"Why are you laughing?" Arissa raised a brow at her.
Jocelyn zipped her smile, "I wasn’t, I_"
Feeling awkward about eavesdropping, Nicklaus finally came out of the bathroom corner, shutting Jocelyn up entirely.
Her smile wiped off in an instant when she saw Nicklaus walking out of the bathroom with a passive expression. His expression was so dark that she began to ask herself how she shipped her friend with someone as cold as he was.
Arissa followed Jocelyn’s sight. The moment her eyes landed on Nicklaus, she smiled at him. Holding her gaze, his expression loosened up, and to Jocelyn’s horror, he returned Arissa’s smile with a more gentle one before walking over to them.
