Chapter 183: Why Did He Not Just Marry Her?
Nicklaus ran his hand through his hair locks as he watched her pick up the plates. She was acting weird tonight. Unlike last night when she was all happy to see him.
He stood still watching as she turned the food into the plates. Unable to hold himself back, he walked up to her and held her waist from behind before kissing her neckline.
"What happened?" he asked on her skin.
Arissa drew in a shaky breath. She want to confront him about Raquel but with what he was doing right now, she was being turned on and he knows it.
She gulped as she drooped the plates when his fingers stroked her arms.
Nicklaus placed a deep soft kiss on her neck, "You are all tensed," he told her.
Arissa moaned when he nibbled her neck as electric sparks erupted in her. Getting a positive response from her, he held her midriff and pressed her into himself.
Arissa caught sight of the idle plates, "Nicklaus, dinner first," she reminded him. Her hate for cold food was extreme.
Arissa shook her head to calm her heart down and with a straight face, she tore his hand off her waist. Nicklaus immediately stepped away with conflicted feelings when she did that.
He stood by and watched her carry the plates away to the kitchen counter. Setting the plates, she turned to him with a soft expression as she wondered how to invite him over.
Nicklaus met her eyes, without waiting for her words, he moved to the counter table and took a seat. He started at the food for a longer time than necessary which made Arissa more nervous.
Not saying a word to her, he picked up his cutleries and silently ate what was placed before him.
She stared at him for a while before taking her seat before him. Releasing a deep breath after seeing him eat more than a spoon, she said a silent prayer before digging into her meal.
Only the silent sound of their cutleries was heard as strange silence poured upon them. The silence wasn’t comfortable.
He was warm a while ago, why the sudden coldness, she thought. Her eyes darted between his face, his lips, and his food as she waited for him to say something about her cooking or anything.
This was the first time he was eating her food so, he have to say something and not eat silently with that unreadable expression. God! She don’t even know why she was feeling this nervous.
Time went on and his food was half past the portion she gave to him but he never said a word, and she couldn’t even read his expression.
Unable to take his silence anymore, Arissa dropped her cutleries in a demanding manner with earned a brow lift from Nicklaus.
Looking at him apologetically, her lips parted, "Why are you so quiet?"
Nicklaus swallowed the food in his mouth before staring up at her, "What do you mean?"
Arissa bit her inner gum, "You are suddenly acting like we fought," she complained which earned her a seat up from Nicklaus.
"You started that way, you always give me cold shoulders when you feel like it," he said calmly, a direct opposite of her emotions.
She blinked, "I don’t do that," she opposed.
Nicklaus fixed a soft intense stare on her, "So what’s with your attitude lately and your refusal to kiss me?" he dropped the questions in a laid-back tune as he waited for whatever excuses she might have.
"Nickl_"
"I don’t know the reason for your attitude but I’m sure my name has nothing to do with it," he cut her off harshly.
Arissa gulped, her eyes widened in shock and Nicklaus released a low sigh when he saw how startled she was with his tune. He drooped his cutleries and stood up from his seat.
"You cook great but I have to leave,"
Arissa just nodded at his words, avoiding his eyes, she slowly began to play with her meal - an attitude whenever she have a sour mood.
Nicklaus walked to the door but halted as he turned to her again, "Arissa, is there something you want to ask?" he spoke up after staring at her for a while. Seeing her in that dead-panned mood, he couldn’t just walk away from her.
"No," she answered curtly.
Nicklaus walked into the kitchen and sat back on his seat, "I’m sorry," he apologized over his late snap-out. She caused it, most times, her mood swing isn’t blissful.
One moment she’s happy with him and the next, she just switches.
Arissa glanced up at him, "You don’t have to apologize," she said.
Nicklaus nodded, "So, what happened?" he pressed on the issue before taking her idle hand in his.
Arissa met his eyes, "Who is Raquel to you?" she never planned to ask but her lips moved on their own accord. She wasn’t supposed to care but she wanted to know.
Nicklaus’s brow furrowed. Was Raquel the reason for her foul mood tonight? And why was she asking him about Raquel out of the Blues?
With hopes to lighten her mood, he replied, "My sex partner," Arissa’s face turned white when he said, "About four months ago," he added immediately and Arissa could testify that for a moment, her heart died and it only beat again when he added his last line.
Studying Arissa changing expression, he asked, "Did you meet her today?"
"I did, more like we ran into each other," she answered, "Since you knew her a long time ago, why did you not just marry her?"
Nicklaus chuckled like he was asked an extremely funny question, "I can’t stand her,"
Arissa frowned hearing him, "But you could stand having sex with her," she said curtly, forcing her hand away from his soft grip.
Nicklaus’s brow arched then narrowed suspiciously, "Did anyone say anything to you?"
Arissa tried to stand up but Nicklaus reached for her hand and grabbed it softly. She tried to withdraw her hand from his grip but it was impossible as Nicklaus tightened his grip.
