"Logan had those before I could," Mr. Adams replied, "Those files weren’t even with Alfred, they were with his crime police, chief,"

A thick frown marred Nicklaus’s expression, "Mr. John Hancock, you mean?"

"Hmm," Mr. Adams could only breathe his reply out. He was surprised Nicklaus knew so much which made him wonder why the man invested so much in Arissa’s life.

"Was Logan meant to secure them?" Nicklaus suspected otherwise. From what he dug out, those two weren’t in line as blood lust for the other was the only thing between them bit still, he have to ask.

"He stole them," Mr. Adams met Nicklaus’s eyes, "I don’t know what moves in that brain of his but he would come after you the moment he knows you are aware of all of these and worst still, that you have Theodore," he warned.

Nicklaus nodded, "Indeed he would. Are you already letting out hints about your possible betrayal?" he asked.

Me Adams took in a deep breath, "I pledge my loyalty to no one except my daughter," he told Nicklaus with a straight face.

Nicklaus’s brows knitted, "You have no family,"

He already did a background check on this man. The man has no one in this world, except himself so what daughter was he talking about and how is his daughter involved in this?

Mr. Adams shook his head in disagreement, "I do, and keeping her safe is my top priority so don’t have the thoughts on me giving you out," he said.

Nicklaus’s lips turned into a thin line as he processed Mr. Adams’s words and what the man was trying to talk about.

It was only Arissa’s family that was involved in this and if he haven’t known who Adele’s parents were, he would have taken him for her father which he wasn’t.

Nicklaus tapped his left leg on the floor as he pondered over Mr. Adams’s words for a while. Not getting anyone that would be concerned in this to tag as the man’s child, he asked, "Who is your daughter, and how is she linked to all of these?"

Mr. Adams relaxed his tensed muscles first before parting his lips to speak, "Arissa, Arissa is my daughter,"

"What!" Nicklaus was taken aback. He almost choked on his saliva as he never saw that coming, "My wife is your daughter?"

Mr. Adams nodded with sincerity, "Your wife is my daughter_"

Turning to the guards, "Leave, you all should leave this instant," Nicklaus cut him off as he dismissed his guards. He turned back to Mr. Adams with an angered expression.

Seeing the basement quiet with Nicklaus’s whole attention on him, he continued, "Alfred is infertile," he dropped another secret with a low chuckle, "He can’t father a child, and that was why I stepped in,"

Nicklaus’s face darkened, "You lie," he almost lost his cool.

"I know it’s hard to believe this because she looks nothing like me but let’s not forget she also looks nothing like Alfred. She’s just a spitting image of her mother with the shape of my eyes as the only difference," Mr. Adams calmy said.

"When I inflated the Lincoln home, all I thought about was how to take revenge for my wife and unborn child that was brutally killed from a mission I found out his men carried out He did not kill them directly but he caused their death without showing empathy,"

He paused and looked at the unblinking man before him.

"I planned to end his family but after going close, I realized how hard it would be so, I only decided to plot his death from afar while being loyal to him," he paused with a thoughtful chuckle, "Time went on, my heart slowly healed and I realized I have to calm down and hurt him here it would strike the most, but then, we were not past enemies so I plotted a quick death for him,"

Nicklaus cut him off, "That doesn’t link to how Arissa turned your daughter," his expression was stern and his voice chilly.

Mr. Adams cleared his throat. It gladdens him that someone cares about Arissa as this man before he does.

If he would die now, he couldn’t be happier but his only regret would be not ending Alfred and Laura himself for putting his daughter through what they made her go through.

He went on, "Though they tried only once to have a baby. It wasn’t out of love as Alfred just wanted to secure her family company that was attached to his even if Laura ever leaves him. So, after medical tests, it was secretly confirmed he was infertile, which wasn’t a surprise to him as he had suspected that also but it shattered Laura. Then, she was already with Adele while she secretly nursed her,"

"Time went on and Laura’s fertile night came, and on that night, I was offered a huge contract to lay with Laura,"

At this moment, Nicklaus raised a questioning brow at him which Mr. Adams looked away from.

"Well, I slept with her that night but not without a motive. I planned to use the child as leverage to own Laura’s family empire and when I have that, I crush Alfred bit by bit,"

"Why didn’t you do it?" Nicklaus questioned arrogantly, "I mean the child grew under you. Why did you move on with your plot and become who you ever wanted to be?" he taunt as the story stopped making sense to him.

He does not understand everyone’s quest for power. How would a man who wanted to avenge his wife and child divert his attention to a company? Does that make any sense?

"Or did you forget about your wife and child after having mind-blowing lovemaking with his wife?" Nicklaus went on with pure annoyance in his voice.

He was rationale annoyed right now. How could his wife be used as means of power even before she was born? Was there a crime she committed in her past life?

Mr. Adams did not get angry with the questions, not even the disrespect in Nicklaus’s voice angered him. Rather, he went on to explain, "It wasn’t all of those, Arissa was a very happy child. I might not have brought her into this world with a normal motive but she healed me with her first cry even though I wasn’t allowed to hold her for months,"

"I wanted her to be happy_"

Nicklaus cut him off, "Happy by helping the Lincolns ride her over to my house? Or by seizing her rights and mentally abusing her?" he might not have addressed it but all those while Arissa broke down from the tension in their union, he felt it all.

"ARISSA WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED AS A CHILD IF I HAD GONE ON WITH MY PLANS THEN!!" he finally lost his cool as he yelled, "I know Alfred. He would have thought twice about killing her, just by her birth, his power was already secured and if she dies, it doesn’t matter. All I have ever done and thought about was keeping her safe,"

Mr. Adams gasped for air the moment he was done talking. He was so emotional about the whole thing that he talked breathlessly without a stop.

He went on when Nicklaus just stared at him with a poker face, unaffected by his outburst, "And that is why I’m doing all I could to help her out of the contract. I wouldn’t have risked my life to get all of those documents from the Lincoln safe had it been I never loved her or wanted her happy,"

"I don’t believe you," Nicklaus told him bluntly truthful as he did not care if he hurt the man emotions.

Mr. Adams smiled sadly, "I love my daughter and one day, I would love her to know the truth," he said

Nivklaus just stared at the man before him while he waited for Daniel to come back ad he have other tasks for that man to do.
