His Toxic Addiction
Chapter 174: Her Protective Instinct.

Chapter 174: Her Protective Instinct.

Minutes after Mrs. Wyatt left, Arissa sat staring at her barely-eaten breakfast. Her eyes darted toward Mrs Wyatt’s plates and a sigh left her lips when she realized she had spoilt the woman’s breakfast.

She arranged her blazer to cover her white vest and at that moment, her phone vibrated, indicating an incoming call.

Picking up her phone, her brows folded seeing an unknown number but still, she answered it.

"Arissa," the voice called the moment she answered.

Hearing that disgusting voice, she immediately wished she could turn back the hands of the clock where she hasn’t replied.

"What do you want, Mr. Lincoln?" she managed to ask. She had forgotten about her parents as she prayed they no longer existed but this call just made her understand how hard that would be - well, unless she kills them herself.

"Don’t play dumb with me, where are the documents?" he asked her, resentment filled his whole voice and he wished he could drag out her scalp from the phone towards her intending ignorance act.

Arissa’s face hardened immediately as her protective instinct grew, "What documents?" she snapped.

Alfred from the other end tried to control himself. He just has limited time as he doesn’t know when Logan might come after him but before he dies, he wants those documents.

"The Wyatt documents," he answered, "Or don’t you want to be free from that contract marriage and have your restriction letters broken?" he manipulated her situation for her to do his bidding.

Arissa almost laughed when she heard him. This was the most comical thing she have heard since the beginning of this month.

What did he just try to use to buy her? Her restriction letters? Oh, dear Lord! Her father needs to wake up. Seems old age grabs his mind faster than his body.

Even if Nicklaus haven’t broken her restriction letters, she won’t run to him with some documents that could ruin someone’s fortune just because of fifty million dollars papers.

And about the marriage, he would have done that earlier because right now, she’s prepared to make this work, at least for the two years.

She have a lot to say to him and he she wanted to laugh but not wanting to was her time with the leach of a human, "No thanks, I think I’m okay with my situation," she simply said and without one more second added, she hugged up on the call.

"Arissa,"

All blood drained from Arissa’s face when she heard Mrs. Wyatt’s voice from behind her. Had she been there all this while?

’I thought she left?’ Arissa thought. And then, her phone rang again, which made her put it on silent.

Mrs. Wyatt walked further into the dining hall, "What situation are you talking about, is something bothering you?" the woman asked and Arissa could only bite her lower lips inner gum, while she tried to keep her emotions in check.

"It was nothing," Arissa lied as she moved away from her seat. The woman’s care was overwhelming and she hated the fact she did not meet her earlier.

Mrs. Wyatt glanced at her before stepping closer to her and taking her soft palm into her older one’s, she requested, "Can I hug you?"

The sudden question took Arissa by surprise as she never expected it. Now she remembered, for the last seven days the woman has been here, she hasn’t hugged her.

With a soft smile, Arissa nodded and the woman drew her into her arms, and without hesitations, Arissa wrapped her arms around the woman.

"Time moves fast, it’s almost two months and before I’d realize it, it would be two years," Mrs. Wyatt said in the hug and Arissa understood what she meant.

She hasn’t still understood why Mrs. Wyatt seems to love her this way when she hasn’t done anything special for her.

She was just the girl who held their son down from whatever happiness this marriage is holding him down from.

Arissa said nothing but just hugged the woman with more affection and at that moment, Rue arrived at the dining door.

"Mrs_" she trailed off when she saw the mother and daughter in their moment. Arissa just glanced at her before investing all of her attention on Mrs. Wyatt.

After a few minutes, they parted the hug and that was when Mrs. Wyatt noticed Rue’s presence. Rubbing Arissa’s cheek affectionately, she smiled at the girl before turning to Rue.

"Wait for me in the car, I’d be out in a minute," she ordered Rue softly.

The maid bowed gently before moving away with some grocery bags in her hand.

"I have to be going, I have to restock the house again before I leave,"

"The house is well-stocked," Arissa chimed in.

Mrs. Wyatt chuckled, "Nicklaus is an extremely picky eater so I better stock the house with what I assume he might love to eat to save Rue and the rest," she explained.

Arissa’s mouthed an ’oh’ as she nodded in understanding.

"Finish your soup, it would help your system against the rain last night, and when you are done and you won’t be leaving the house, I want you to rest and_"

Arissa cut her off, "I’d love to join you at the store," she haven’t seen Nicklaus eating for a month now which left her wondering what he eats at the office.

’Maybe, I could cook him dinner tonight,’ she thought.

"Really?" Mrs. Wyatt’s eyes shone in delight, "Sure you could but_" she paused and looked at Arissa’s meal and back at her face.

"But what?"

Mrs. Wyatt rubbed the back of Arissa’s palm before looking into her eyes, "I want you to finish the soup first," she said.

Arissa almost cried when she heard that. Though she likes the soup, it was delicious.

But that notwithstanding, her appetite wasn’t there to eat but still, she took her seat again and with the help of Mrs. Wyatt, she ate every single drop of the soup.
