Chapter 171: Regrets.
"Wait!!"
Laura yelled at him to stop counting when he was just a breath away from five seconds. She had wanted to run around in circles with him but unfortunately, he wasn’t Alfred as he had already seen through her facade.
"Wait!" she repeated herself, breathless from fear but Logan just raised a brow at her, while his guns pointed at her two feet did not lower.
Laura took in a deep breath as she tried to hide her legs from his view which was pointless as the chain restrained her from doing so.
She had always thought she was the devil - or so she thought - but right now, meeting the devil himself explained to her that she won’t even hold a candlelight compared to him.
She looked at him with a wary expression. Right now, she was walking on the edge of an eggshell as she tried to feel his emotions.
She felt nothing positive from him. All she felt from him was bloodlust. Which meant she was in trouble, she knows that but she still has to try her luck.
"How did you lose your legs?" she asked him in a shaky voice.
Logan’s eyes dimmed at her question and he cracked his guns to let her know they were perfectly working. Even if he can’t kill her because he wants the money, he could make her suffer a cripple and he would do it.
Laura stared at the guns in his hold for a while and then, her eyes moved back to his face, "Was it caused by some accident?" she questioned, genuine concern in her voice.
Logan’s jaw tightened as her question caused turmoil in him but that doesn’t mean he would drop his guard down. Rather, his face turned sterner, as he said, "If this is a talk to buy more time, I think_"
"I’m not buying time. You can shoot me this instant if you want," she cut him off.
She was just hurling out brave words when she wasn’t brave but she decided to take the risk because she had studied Logan.
She doesn’t know much about him but she knew his heart as she had read the whole of him just from their little conversations. He would have shot her feet without listening to her saying ’wait’ but he didn’t.
Instead, he paused and listened to her and that alone showed her no matter how hard he tries, he can’t let go of the human milk in him. Well, that was unlike her.
She killed her twin to make sure her father’s company would merge with her husband when she becomes the only true blood left. The family murmured and grumbled without hiding their displeasure towards the situation as his death was fishy and he was the one trained as an heir.
Trials and trials went on as her father was set to avenge her brother’s death and finally, when the court case was over, all evidence pointed fingers towards him - her father - to the surprise of everyone.
She gritted her teeth in anger. She could not believe she did all this for Alfred without him catching a glimpse of them.
Her father was serving life imprisonment right now because of him and he remembered none of that.
’I would make him pay,’ she vowed in regret.
Had it been she had just been with Stephen, all of these wouldn’t have happened. She would have still been loving and innocent, her family with him - Stephen - would have been happy and her daughter would have loved her better.
"Answer my question," Logan hollered, bringing her out of her wishing fantasy.
Laura flinched.
Wait! She thought he would reply to her question and get casual with her. What happened?
Raising her chained wrist, she tried to crawl to his feet and do God knows what. Logan raised a brow at her and without a second thought, he fired his shot.
"Ahhggg!!" a sudden scream filled with pain tore off her lips when a bullet was buried into the back of her palm.
Still, in her crawling position, she stared at her palm as blood rushed out of it. Pain and fear filled her whole being as she threw herself away from him while gripping her palm strongly to stop the blood.
Not feeling her screams and pain, Logan began his questions, "Where did you hide the money and did you touch the Wyatt money?" he took a step closer to her. His hot gun was ready to release another bullet.
Laura looked at him with dread and tears rolled from her eyes. He hasn’t explained his motive or who sent him and neither does she know who he is.
She can’t answer what he was asking her. She kept that money for herself and if losing her legs would make her have it to herself, then so be it.
She managed her injured palm to her bosom, "I did not touch the Wyatt money," she clarified and she regretted to this second why she didn’t.
She would have extracted that money before Alfred knows it but in the name of being safe, she decided to wait only for him to end up using it on women rather than the company.
Rethinking her past decisions made her realize how much inhuman she was. She would have stood before her daughter. She would have stood before Adele also, even if the girl wasn’t her’s, Stephen’s blood was what ran through her veins.
She had been so blinded by greed. If she had known Alfred would get her first to end her this way, she would have worked on exposing him rather than stealing his wealth.
Now she thought about it, how would she have killed Alfred? He was a public figure and his death would be strongly investigated. Yet, she had hoped.
She had believed a way to silence him would unfold before her with time but it seems like he would be the one to silence her first.
"Did_ was it my husband who sent you?" she asked, staringly staring at her bloody hand as it stained her torn gown.
