Chapter 165: Always About You.
Chapter 165: Always About You.
"What was that about?" Jocelyn’s voice turned soft as she walked toward Arissa.
"Did someone visit?" Arissa asked indifferently while holding onto Adele’s palm to calm down, "Was that a wrong question?"
Jocelyn blinked.
This sure does sound like her friend but not her friend towards her. Scanning Arissa from behind, she released a soft sigh when she saw her all tensed up.
’Oh, so her weird self was due to stress,’ she thought and with calm steps, she walked towards Arissa. There’s nothing her massage can’t do and right now, it was clear to her that her friend needs it more than anything else.
So getting behind Arissa, she placed both hands on her shoulder but what she did not expect was for Arissa to roughly shrug her shoulders to get her hands off.
"Not now Jocelyn," Arissa stooped her before Jocelyn would say a word, "Give me answers d_"
Jocelyn cut her off, "No one visited her but even if someone did, I would have let you know before you would even ask," her voice was now confused.
Arissa turned to her and stared into her eyes, "Jocelyn, are you working with Mr. Adams?" she dropped her question straight, staring straight into Jocelyn’s eyes.
Jocelyn gasped, "Arissa?"
"Yes!" Arissa snapped at her, "Answer the question straight_"
Jocelyn frowned as she cut her off, "Why would you ask me that? What made you_" she paused as she tried to catch a breath. What Arissa just asked mentally broke her as she couldn’t understand how that question came about.
She was just asking if she was okay and not something about Mr. Adams. Why is she being suspected here when she had done nothing but stand with her?
Arissa rolled her eyes towards heaven, locking her emotions away. Jocelyn’s expressions weakened her but she refuse to give up her doubt just for some expressions.
"Did I ask the wrong question?" her voice was unconcerned as she looked over Jocelyn’s close breakdown, "I want to know to who I entrust my sister’s life,"
Jocelyn gasped from her mouth and took a weak step back as Arissa’s words suffocated her. What the hell? What made Arissa this way?
They have known each other for fifteen years. Wasn’t that long enough to trust her and also, know who she was? And she has been taking care of Adele for almost two months now, why the doubt now?
Yes, her friend was indifferent, a hard rock, and someone who you wouldn’t call a friend at first encounter but that doesn’t mean you both won’t get along if you break those crusts she use in protecting herself.
The Arissa before her seemed extremely different and something told her it wasn’t related to anxiety alone.
"What do you mean by you need to know?" Jocelyn whispered. She felt something deep excluding her and it felt like... No, Jocelyn shook her head, she dare not think that way.
’But that’s what I feel from her. I’m not blind to her emotions,’
However, while Jocelyn was busy realizing where the train of questions was moving to, Arissa blinked as she realized her fear was now in control over her.
As if the fake possessor of her body was gone and the real one who recognizes her friend was back, she took a step closer to Jocelyn.
"Jocely_"
"You...you don’t trust me, do you?" Jocelyn asked with doubt, hoping that Arissa would prove her wrong but the emotions in her friend’s eyes weren’t what she expected as she saw a positive answer flash through them before fading away as guilt covered them.
"You don’t trust me," Jocelyn said, nodding her head in acceptance with an awkward laugh at the end.
She tried to ease the gravity of her finding but the laugh just broke her more, even Arissa felt hurt from that laugh.
"Jocelyn_" Arissa trailed off. She don’t know what to say to justify her actions and suspicions, "I_" she tried to start up another line but dropped it, lost of words. What was she thinking?
And at that moment, Jocelyn gave her a sad smile before walking away from her, "You think I’m working against you?" she laughed, "How funny!"
"I never meant it that way," Arissa choked out, "I mean I trust you. I was just anxious and worried. I met this guy..."
"Spare me the details, Arissa. It had always been about you," she turned to Arissa and pointed an accusing at her, "You are selfish with your thoughts,"
"No," Arissa objected immediately.
Jocelyn raised a brow at her, "No?" she chuckled with a flustered face as it became hard for her to keep up with her emotions now, "You always had been. I have been the only person trying to make us work,"
Arissa’s eyes widened. How did they get to this? She was only scared and never expected this. Jocelyn had always tried to be on good terms with her so, what happened now?
Did she go too far with her fear this time around?
"And now, you’ve gone as far as accusing me? How much more would you do to destroy us?"
Arissa’s lips parted to say something but they all got choked up in her throat. Her face paled as she listened to Jocelyn while her eyes remained cold.
Destroy them? She did nothing of such, she was just scared. Why can’t Jocelyn understand that? Why was she extending something as little as that? She only asked a harmless question.
Could it be she was right and that’s why Jocelyn was this aggravated? No, she shut those thoughts away.
More tears dropped and Jocelyn wiped them away with the back of her palm, "Richard called me, he told me what transpired between the both of you," she met Arissa’s frosty eyes with her red hurt ones as she continued, "If you keep on suspecting everyone around you and keep on acting like the world and all the bad things in it revolve around you, it would only be a matter of time before you lose the whole of us, and before that happens, I hope you realize yourself first,"
Arissa’s heart drooped but she still kept her mask on, which frustrated Jocelyn.
’It seems I had been wasting my time on a friend who isn’t worth it,’ Jocelyn thought with a bitter smile.
Biting her lips as a means to scold herself for crying and being the weakling between them, she turned away from Arissa and walked toward the couch.
Picking up her bag, she walked over to her bed lampstand and snatched her car key from it. Arissa’s stiff neck turned to her in confusion.
"Where_"
"I can’t stand you right now," Jocelyn cut her off, "I tried to know you but you just keep on changing each second," she dropped a piece of her mind, staring at Arissa as if she had just grown horns from her head, "Call me when you are about leaving. For now, let’s stay away," she walked away from her.
Arissa was dumbfounded. What was this? "Lyn,"
Jocelyn turned to her with a tight glare. Shrugging her shoulders, she walked out of the ward and did her hardest not to slam the door for the sake of Adele.
Arissa stared at the closed door in shock.
Jocelyn was slow to anger but that doesn’t mean they haven’t had arguments in the past. They had fought countless times but the look in Jocelyn’s eyes today, she haven’t seen one like it.
It was just a question that needed answers. Why did Jocelyn take it so personally when she just have to answer with a word?
Was Jocelyn feeling guilty about something? Was she really working against her?
