Chapter 147: Just Let Me Help You.
Nicklaus was cut off guard when he saw Arissa standing steps away from him at the door. How long had she been there and how come he never noticed?
Fuck! The question was how much did she hear?
"Arissa," he mentioned her name softly, all of his anger about Logan disappearing as he fully turned to her, "I should be leaving now,"
Arissa blinked. What does he mean by that and why is he keeping my question hanging? She asked herself.
Arissa strolled into the gym hall, holding his gaze, she said, "I had asked you a question Nicklaus. Who were you talking about?" she had hesitated for a second as she tried to assume she heard wrongly or maybe it was someone else he was speaking about but the pause and how he tried to walk out on her increased her suspicion so she questioned him again.
Nicklaus cleared his throat, "It doesn’t matter," he tried to kill the topic as he held her gaze.
Arissa frowned, "And who said it mattered? I only want to know who you were talking about and why you want to find that person," she raised a brow at him as she stood before him.
Nicklaus’s eyes left her eyes and down to her upper breast that was exposed from the metallic gold sports bra she was on.
Maybe he was hallucinating but her breast grew bigger. Unconsciously, he licked his lower lips as he admired her tits.
Arissa frowned upon realizing how he was so focused on her chest. Raising her hand to her chest, she covered her upper breast with her palm and Nicklaus’s ears turned red from embarrassment.
She took a step back and stared at him like he was some pervert. Nicklaus’s jaw clenched when she did that.
Pissed with how he did not take her seriously but was focused somewhere else, she forgot about all they built last night as she went back to her old self and placed her walls high again.
"Were you talking about Mr. Adams?" she questioned him as her voice turned cold.
Nicklaus frowned at her tune. He kept shut and did not reply to her as he just stared at her with a penetrating gaze.
"So it’s true, I was right," she started, his silence already connected the dots.
"How could you do that? Did I not tell you not to get involved with my business?" she questioned as her voice got fiercely harsh.
Nicklaus still kept shut as he was surprised that she was so furious just because she heard Adams’s name coming from him. Could it be she had something with Logan and was afraid Mr. Adams would uncover that? Or was he the one overthinking everything?
Arissa got irritated with his quietness. He was just staring into her eyes without answering her. Does he not have a bit of respect for me? What made him think he has the right to get involved with my life without my knowledge? She reasoned as her irritation grew.
"Answer me, Nick," she seethed at him.
"You did," he said simply when he saw her irritation growing to anger. He was scared to annoy her, the reason being that he won’t want to damage what they just built.
"I did what?" she wanted to get her point across. He just can’t say she did, he should say what she wants to hear.
Nicklaus gritted his teeth trying not to snap. Her controlling side was too much for him to put up with. He should be the dominant one here, not her.
"Nick_"
Nicklaus cut her off, "I did not interfere in your parent’s affair," he half growled at her, pissed off by her nagging, "I only interfered in my wife’s affair," he said like an eye opener.
Arissa looked at him with a stunned expression, as she had not seen that coming. She blinked in confusion as she gazed into his eyes to justify what he had just said.
’Did he just call her his wife?’ Speechless, she looked away from him.
"I’m not entitled to you," she argued stubbornly in a low voice, "Being your wife doesn’t give you all rights to my affairs,"
Nicklaus walked towards her. Arissa gulped and took a step back but he hugged her waist and pressed their bodies together.
Gently, he lifted her chin with his fingers to make her look at him, getting all attention he need from her as she was unable to look away from his eyes when he did that, he said, "You have to stop being this way, you need help," well, that sounded weird coming from Nicklaus because he also needs help but was pushing it away but he honestly wants to help her.
"I don’t need help," Arissa hissed as she stepped away from his hug, taking her chin off his hold. She tried to sidestep Nicklaus but he grabbed her arm and halted her movement.
Arissa gasped at the skin-to-skin contact. She turned to him with wide eyes.
Gently, Nicklaus pulled her into his arms again, "Of course you do," he coaxed her, "You are not a monster," well yes if compared to him, "You need help and I’m coming, just let me,"
"You_" she stooped talking as she was speechless. He doesn’t have to help her.
Nicklaus wrapped his other arm around her midriff, "I’m only sorry you found out this way, I’ve been meaning to talk to you about it," he apologized as he gave her a reason to justify her anger so she doesn’t feel guilty alone.
He wants to share everything with her, even her pain and her guilt.
Nicklaus pressed his forehead to hers before kissing the tip of her nose. Still pressing their forehead together, he whispered, "But I’m not sorry about getting involved, and don’t think of pushing me away because I won’t let you,"
Arissa’s knees weakened hearing him and her eyes turned red and blurry as tears threatened to drop from them. She never expected Nicklaus to be this way with her.
She immediately felt foolish for yelling at him without trying to hear him out.
"Thank you," was all she could say as she fought back her tears. This wasn’t what she expected from him, she repeated.
Nicklaus smiled at her and she returned to him a weak smile. Nicklaus leaned away before pulling her into a warm comforting hug so she would tears go.
"My father is dangerous," Arissa muttered under her breath as she hugged him back.
Nicklaus kisses the center of her head, "I know," he caressed her midriff, "Just let me help you,"
