His Toxic Addiction -
Chapter 130: His Little Rissa.
Chapter 130: His Little Rissa.
Richard stared at her, "Why are you so concerned with my father’s death?" he asked her again.
It sounded strange she always asked him questions like this. They haven’t bonded as family does ever since she came back. All she always does was ask about his father’s death case.
Could it be that she know something suspicious? No way, he thought. Arissa was so tender when that incident happened but her actions now are becoming questionable.
"Or, did your father send you?"
The sudden question surprised Arissa.
"What do you mean?"
Richard sat up straight, "As everyone knows, my mother still doesn’t want to associate with your father," he said.
Arissa only nodded as she waited patiently for him to continue. She don’t know where this was heading, why would he think her father sent her?
’Thou I don’t want to take sides, I can’t help but consider my mother’s suspicions,’ he added in his thought.
His mother was all round suspicious of Mr Lincoln on his father’s death and it was something he don’t want to care about because, in the first place, no one cares about his father’s death investigations - he was becoming suspicious of Arissa.
Could it be that his mother was right? But what’s Arissa’s involvement, why would she want to get involved with something she ought to know nothing about?
Arissa’s brow twisted seeing he has no plans to go further with his sudden sentence.
"I’m sorry Arissa. With all that you say and ask, it’s beginning to leave me suspicious," Richard hinted at his thought as he turned to her. Taking her hand into his, he stared into her eyes.
Arissa’s heartbeat fell.
"Is there something you are doing or is there someone threatening you to do all these?" he searched her eyes as he questioned her.
He was one of the first three people who carried her when she was first delivered. Staying around her all his life, he knows her emotions and feelings like the back of his palm.
From time to time, it hurt him that the sweet little girl who always depended on him was now a tough lady who wouldn’t even speak to him if it wasn’t necessary.
Searching her eyes, he saw nothing but emotionless brown eyes staring back at him. His little Arissa was never this way, she always had that shining mischievous light in her eyes.
But now, those lights were all dead with only some dark mysterious aura surrounding her. For the first time, he was beginning to question himself on why he let her travel abroad without giving him a meaningful reason.
"I’m not hiding anything, Richard. As I said earlier, it’s not the right time for you to know why," Arissa replied.
Much to her surprise, Richard accepted her reply with a light nod, but his next question was something she would not wish for.
"Why did you suddenly leave this country three years ago?" he questioned.
The sudden question stiffened Arissa but Richard did not notice it as she forcefully dragged her hand from his grip.
Richard’s brows lifted with questions as he stared into her eyes demanding an answer. Now, he was convinced she was truly hiding something from him, and not only that but what she hides seems threatening.
"The reason why I left the country is personal," she replied, regaining her hard composure.
Richard chuckled, "Really?"
Arissa took in a deep breath, "Do you have any medical reports concerning your father?" she took them back to the question of the day.
She was becoming uncomfortable with his questions. With how Richard was acting, she only hopes he won’t keep her at arm’s length after today. She’s already going through a lot to lose him.
"Where is Adele and where’s this country she traveled to that I can’t even call her?"
Richard sounded serious that Arissa’s palm turned sweaty. He was always her escape from reality no matter what and if he also decides to push her away because of this, she wasn’t sure she would ever be found on earth again.
"She’s on a week’s vacation. She called me earlier and from what she said, the place is with no service," she lied through gritted teeth as she tried to look into his eyes.
Richard chuckled bitterly, "Do you know who you are talking to?" he asked her with all seriousness. The lies and games she was playing were beginning to hurt him deeply, "You formally tell me everything, remember? So, what changed? What are you deep into that you can’t talk to me about? What are you hiding Arissa?"
Arissa smiled inwardly at all of her sweet memories with Richard but that doesn’t mean she would tell him a word. The shit was too dark and she can’t afford to lose him.
"Well, I guess people change. If you’re uncomfortable with my new self, I guess it’s either you live with it or we drift apart," she said in a sterner voice.
Knowing Richard and how he cares about her, she knew he would try to come around for her sake rather than push her apart hence, she wasn’t prepared for his next reply,
"Then I guess you leave my house," he decided.
Arissa choked as she whirled her head around to him, "Richard?"
Richard stood up from the couch, "Leave my house Arissa," he ordered again as his chest tightened. He loves her more than his mother so, what he was doing was a big challenge for him.
It left him in awe when he saw dark circles underneath her eyes, understanding she wasn’t the girl who always stick around him, he knew she would not tell him why she skipped sleep last night even if he asks.
She felt so different now and if not for the comfortable air he always feels around her, he would have thought she was someone else but no! It was his Little Rissa.
Even when she started changing, he never expected a transformation to the point of her hiding things as vital as this from him.
Arissa stared at him shocked. Holding his gaze, she picked up her purse and stood before him. Richard looked at her, "My door is always open if you want to talk but for now, I want you to leave my house,"
Arissa smiled at him. Without wasting any further time, she walked towards the door and left the apartment with Diego behind her.
