Chapter 125: Back To Strangers.

"Nicklaus," Arissa called as she walked towards her bed, "You are here," she added as she climbed on her bed.

Nicklaus turned to her, though he hid it well, his face brightened up at her sight. Arissa raised her duvet to her waist as she just watched him, waiting for him to speak up.

Nicklaus meets her gaze before walking towards the bed, "The duvets?"

"In my closet," she answered with no plans of standing up, "You can go and get it, it’s on my hammock chair," She gave him permission seeing he was waiting for one.

Nicklaus nodded, "Is something wrong?" he asked seating at the edge of her bed while he watched her with calm eyes and a passive expression.

Arissa was surprised by the question. Yes, something was wrong but how did he know about it and why did he seem to care?

Raising the duvet to her nose, she stared at him. What she’s about to say now would make him mad. It would also hurt her.

Yet, she would say it. Not wanting him to see how hurt she would be while saying it, she let only the tip of her nose and her eyes out of the duvet.

Why am I doing this? Nicklaus asked himself as he patiently sat down, waiting for her to share what made her this moody.

Her moodiness wasn’t obvious because she had her normal indifferent look on but he managed to see through them. The reason why he cares to know was what he couldn’t explain.

Arissa only stared at him in contemplation.

"You want me to sleep beside you tonight?" Nicklaus joked, trying his luck. She’s always unpredictable. Who knows, she might agree with him if he tries harder.

Arissa just rolled her eyes upward. If he knows what she wants to say, he would not even be seating beside her so gently, or so she wished. Taking the bull by the horn, she opened up,

"I want us to have a divorce,"

At the hearing of what she just said, it was as if a bucket of ice water was poured over Nicklaus. He turned away from her.

Pinching the skin between his brows, his heartbeat slowed down and the room fell into a strangling tensed silence.

"Nicklaus, I promise you would get all of the benefits. I just want us to prepare the papers and the moment you get your benefits, we just sign it and go our separate ways," she explained with hope.

Nicklaus dropped his hand from his face before turning back to her. His eyes searched her but deeper into her soul.

He wanted to know if she still had a heart and a soul as normal humans do. Seeing her all calm and collected, he laughed at himself inwardly.

What he really wanted, he don’t know but it hurt him she was still in this phase of leaving. He thought she was ready to make them work but it seems he was just in a fantasy hallucination that he needs to wake up from.

"Nicklaus," Arissa called him with expectations.

Nicklaus raised a brow at her, "You called me Hubby earlier and now we are back to this?" he asked, his tone shaking even with all of his efforts to act unfazed.

Arissa blinked before sitting up on the bed taking a low breath, she prepared herself to give him all the reasons she outlined earlier while thinking about this.

"For the last time, is there another guy?" Nicklaus questioned in a tight chilly voice as he restrained himself from being harsh to her since it would only push her further away from him?

Arissa’s brows lifted in shock. What kind of question was he asking her?

"Nicklaus_"

"It’s a yes or no question Arissa. Don’t call my name just give me the answer," he snapped at her losing all of his patience.

Arissa’s mouth widened as she stared at him like he just grew two horns. Taking the duvet off her body, she walked on her knees towards him.

With cautions, she held his arm, "Nicklaus, listen_"

"Stop it, Arissa," Nicklaus almost screamed as his voice broke further. She was messing with him, he can’t get a hold of his fucking emotions around her.

He just can’t get why she has power over his emotions this way. Even Mrs Wyatt has no control over his emotions but with this short while with her, all she does was to control and mess with his emotions like they were on her palm.

He pealed her hands off his arm, "It’s fine, you can have the open relationship you had always wanted,"

"Nickl_"

"For the last time, don’t fucking call me unless you want to hate me more than you do," he cut her off in a warning tone.

Arissa’s throat dried up. This wasn’t what she expected, she just wanted them to have a normal conversation about this.

"You would get the divorce you want, I promise you that," he said.

Arissa’s heart stooped beating when she heard him.

"Nick_ you don’t get it, that wasn’t what I meant,"

Nicklaus glared harshly at her before standing straight from the bed, "I don’t want to see you in the same space with me. Avoid me until we formalize the divorce. Until then, we are strangers again,"

Arissa went weak, she felt dizzy, all of what he was saying and the emotions she felt were overwhelming. She looked into his eyes but they were unreadable and if anything, she knew he was serious and wasn’t bluffing.

Her chest heaved up in unknown fear, "Nicklaus listen to me first," she pleaded ignoring the fact that she just addressed him with his name again.

"I don’t joke with my warnings," he said to her firmly.

Arissa stared up at him as she bit her inner lip to stop her from tearing up, "Nicklaus.."

"Arissa please," Nicklaus cut her off again.

Seeing those tears about to leave her eyes, he wasn’t sure about continuing with this strong facade if she starts with her acting.

She was good at that after all. Cry when she feels ruled on. If she would do that, he better leaves the room before falling victim again.

From this moment, we are back to strangers, Nicklaus thought as he played on to be strong.

And without waiting for Arissa to say anything more, he walked towards the door with all struggles not to look back at her.

Walking out of the door, he slammed it hard behind him, the tears finally left her eyes when he hit her door that way with fury.
