Chapter 296: A Father’s Fury
When Lanny woke up, Enzo was no longer in his room. Her heart suddenly felt empty as she hugged the pillow with Enzo’s scent.
She had lost count of how many times Enzo took her this whole morning. She felt sore in between her legs, an indicator of Enzo’s roughness.
’I can’t blame him. It’s my fault for making him mad,’ Lanny thought, admitting her mistake.
She just lay there for a moment, staring at the ceiling blankly. She didn’t know what she should do. She wondered if Enzo would start avoiding her after this.
Lanny rolled on the bed, tugging her hair. She started to regret what she said to Enzo. But she was too prideful to take back her words.
’Damn it! I’ll try to sort out things between us. I am confused with myself as well.’ Lanny took a deep sigh.
After gathering her emotions, Lanny immediately got off her bed. She took another sigh upon seeing her clothes. Enzo tore her clothes earlier so she couldn’t use them now.
She had no choice but to borrow Enzo’s clothes without his knowledge. She decided to leave the hotel and travel back to York City.
She was on her way back home when she received a call from Miguel.
"What the hell? Why is this tyrant old man suddenly calling me at this hour?" Lanny mumbled, contemplating whether to answer it or not.
It seemed that Miguel had something urgent to say. Her phone kept ringing for several seconds. Without further delay, Lanny pressed the answer button.
"Hello, Fa–?" she wasn’t done greeting her when Miguel cut her words off immediately.
"Where are you? Go home this instant!" Miguel’s commanding tone echoed from the other line.
Lanny became more puzzled after hearing Miguel’s angry voice. ’Is he back here? Why is he asking me to go home? Don’t tell me this old man is in my apartment right now.’
"Yes, Sir! I’m on my way home now!" Lanny replied, not wanting to offend the angry old man.
"Where is Vladimir?" Miguel’s tone became more stern and colder as he mentioned Vladimir’s name.
"Maybe in his office?" Lanny replied, uncertain.
"He is not there." Miguel sounded more irritated.
"Try his bar!" she suggested.
Miguel took a deep sigh, trying to restrain himself from exploding. "He. Is. Not. There!" He emphasized every single word.
"Oh, Maybe he is in Athena–" Lanny stopped abruptly, biting her lips. Her tongue slipped out, mentioning Athena’s name.
Beep! Beep!
Miguel immediately hung up the phone without saying another word.
"Huh? What’s going on here?" Still puzzled, Lanny decided to drive straight to Athena’s penthouse. She had a nagging feeling about Miguel’s sudden phone call.
Meanwhile, at Athena’s penthouse, Vladimir was busy assisting her in the kitchen. She was cooking some snacks for the kids, Kimmy and Aaron.
The children were in her studio. Aaron was practicing guitar while Kimmy was playing the piano. The kids were also preoccupied, not minding the two people in the kitchen.
"Aren’t you going to report to your office today?" Athena asked Vladimir who was expertly peeling the vegetables.
"Luna is taking care of everything. By the way, when is Enzo coming back? He can start working at your company at any time. The Chairmanship position is ready to be filled by your brother." Vladimir said, looking at Athena meaningfully.
"He might be back today. I received his message just a while ago." Athena started mixing the ingredients inside the pot.
Vladimir nodded before making his way to Athena. He placed the sliced vegetables on the countertop as he moved behind her.
Vladimir held her waist as he watched her cook.
"Hey, V! Don’t do that. You are distracting me," Athena said, giggling.
But Vladimir refused to listen. He even hugged her from behind, placing his chin over her shoulder. Then he stole a kiss from her, giving her a quick peck on her right cheek.
"Naughty, V! I might burn our food," she said, shaking her head helplessly.
Ever since Athena gave him a go signal, Vladimir had become more expressive and showy about his feelings toward her. But he hadn’t gone more intimately like kissing her on the lips or making out with her.
Athena seemed more reserved so Vladimir was too cautious in making a move, not wanting to scare her.
Furthermore, he wanted to take his time. He wanted her to feel his sincerity, letting her know that he was not after her body... but he was after her heart.
Unable to bear her playfulness, Athena turned off the stove temporarily and turned to face Vladimir. She pouted her lips while anchoring her arms around his neck.
Vladimir just smiled at her tenderly, holding her waist. They locked their gaze for a long moment. There were sparks in their eyes as they looked at each other.
"Are you hungry or not?" Athena asked him, her eyes glinting with humor.
Vladimir nodded. "I’m hungry," he uttered, his gaze falling on her lips. ’I want to taste you right now. I am barely restraining myself,’ he added in his thoughts.
"Then let me finish cooking first. Don’t distract me, Mr. Ivankov!" Athena stuck her tongue out.
Vladimir could only chuckle huskily. "Don’t do that. You are making me hungry more."
Athena just shook her head helplessly. She was about to retort but they were interrupted by the sound of the doorbell.
"Oops! We have visitors. Go and welcome our guests," Athena playfully commanded him.
"Hmm. Yes, Ma’am!" Vladimir obediently obeyed Athena as he released her.
He stepped out of the house to open the gate and see the unexpected visitor. Upon reaching the gate, Vladimir was surprised to see several men in black, lining up in a row.
"What are they doing here?" Vladimir frowned as he recognized those men. They were Miguel’s bodyguards.
It did not take long before Miguel stepped out of the Rolls-Royce with a grim expression on his face. The crease on Vladimir’s forehead deepened upon meeting his father’s sharp gaze.
’Tsk, This troublesome old man is back.’ Vladimir clicked his tongue in annoyance.
"Why are you–"
Thud!
Vladimir’s words were cut off by a strong punch coming from Miguel.
"How dare you defy me?! Are you trying to challenge me now, Vladimir?! It seems that you have forgotten who the real Boss is here!" He roared at his son.
Miguel had discovered his son’s scheme. He was the one who sabotaged their operation, making him fly home. He was furious after this discovery. He felt like Vladimir was trying to disrespect his authority, deliberately making trouble for their clan.
Vladimir didn’t justify his action. His father was powerful enough to find out the real culprit.
"You disappoint me, Vladimir! You started to change the moment Athena showed up. She is not a good influence on you. You go back home today! You and Lanny! I’m bringing the children with me as well." Miguel said in his commanding tone.
Complicated emotions flashed in Vladimir’s eyes when Athena got involved in this mess. Miguel’s hostility toward Athena was so obvious.
"No! I won’t leave. This is my turf!" Vladimir didn’t hesitate to talk back to his father.
Miguel narrowed his eyes on him. "You are testing my patience, Vladimir. I’m warning you. Don’t do something you will regret later."
Vladimir clenched his fists, preparing to fight those bodyguards.
Then Miguel spoke again. "I already arranged your marriage with Dmitri’s cousin. You have to come with me and marry her!"
Crash
The glass slipped Athena’s hand upon hearing Miguel’s last remarks. She came to follow Vladimir to check what was happening outside. She didn’t mean to eavesdrop on their conversation.
