Chapter 264: Reinvestigate

At Smith Mansion...

Dominique stayed at home today as he wasn’t in the mood to go out. He was still thinking about Athena. She got upset with him yesterday and she kept ignoring his calls. He apologized through a text message but Athena didn’t respond to him.

"Should I drop by YG Entertainment to see her?" Dominique asked himself as he stared at his phone. He had been waiting for Athena’s reply.

Dominique was still lost in his thoughts when the butler approached him.

"Master, you have a visitor. It’s Mr. Arnold Lee."

Dominique’s eyes lit up when he heard that name. He reflexively stood up and ran to the front door to welcome his visitor.

As soon as he was out of the mansion, he saw an old man with gray hair and in a black suit, standing near the balcony.

"Father?" he called out.

The old man smiled at him, waving his hand. "Son! How are you? I heard you got into an accident. Have you recovered now?"

"Yes." Dominique couldn’t hide the joy he was feeling right now. "It’s been so long since the last time I saw you. Please come in."

Dominique guided the old man inside the mansion. The two of them settled down on the long sofa. Dominique immediately commanded the butler to prepare snacks for his visitor.

This person was his benefactor. He was the one who helped him rise again after losing everything.

Arnold Lee served as Dominique’s foster father. But he was known as his godfather. He was also his benefactor in the past... the person who supported him financially to finish his studies.

"You’ve grown a lot. You are a successful businessman here in York City. I can even hear your company’s name when I am abroad. I’m so proud of you, son." Arnold held his shoulder, expressing his admiration for Dominique.

He knew that Dominique had gone through a lot in the past. He saw his potential. And he wasn’t wrong.

Dominique was a hardworking guy and he proved to him that he could be successful in his own way. He didn’t rely on Arnold so much. He worked independently to reach his current position now.

’His thirst for revenge and his hatred fueled his determination to become successful and do well,’ Arnold thought to himself, rubbing his chin.

"Did you catch the culprit who attacked you? It looks like you still have lots of enemies targeting you." Arnold was direct and frank as he brought up this topic.

After hearing the news, he abandoned his work abroad to see Dominique.

"Don’t worry about me. I’m not lowering my guard. My enemies won’t be able to bring me down." He reassured the old man.

Arnold smirked at him before picking up his cup of tea. He took a sip while his eyes scanned his surroundings.

"Where is your second wife? I haven’t met her in person yet. Why are you alone here? She should be taking care of you at home." Arnold raised his eyebrow.

Dominique’s smile disappeared at the mention of Sasha.

"She’s not here. She is on her business trip abroad. She will be back next week."

The old man noticed his strange behavior as he talked about Sasha.

"Oh! Is there something wrong? Did you argue with her before she left? Why do you look so down?" Arnold watched him in puzzlement.

Dominique gazed at him meaningfully. "The truth is... I’m planning to end things between Sasha and me. I can no longer act as her husband. I must stop the act now. And I guess Sasha is avoiding me. That’s one of the reasons she went on the business trip. She’s afraid of being confronted by me."

Arnold wasn’t surprised at all when he heard that. He knew all along that Dominique didn’t have feelings for Sasha.

"If that is your decision then I’ll support you. But I am curious. Why now? You put up with her for the past four years. And now, you want to break up with her. What pushes you to do that?" Arnold could sense that Dominique had a reason for this. His interest was piqued.

Confronted by that question coming from Arnold, Athena’s face immediately flashed in his mind. Of course, Athena was his main reason for this!

"This time I want to be honest with my feelings and follow my heart. I think... through this... I can truly become happy... with the woman I love." Dominique smiled, profound love evident in his eyes.

The old man just let out a husky laugh. "Alright! It seems that you’ve fallen in love with another woman. This is so rare. It’s my first time to see that kind of expression. I can tell that you really love that woman."

"Good luck, son." Arnold winked at him, tapping his shoulder.

"Anyway, let’s go back to our previous topic. Did you find out who the mastermind is?"

Dominique nodded in response. "The Williams. The order came from Alfonso. He started to move. He is hellbent on reclaiming the Williams’ company from me."

Arnold became serious upon hearing that.

"Alfonso Williams, huh. He is also a cunning man just like his brother, Albert."

He glanced at Dominique with conflicting thoughts in mind.

"What’s wrong, Dad? Why are you staring at me like that? Is there something you want to tell me?"

Arnold took a deep sigh before deciding to share his thoughts and opinions.

"Just thinking about it, Dom. Why did you spare Alfonso and his family? What if... he is also aware of what happened to your family? Or worse, he might have some involvement with the death of your family..." Arnold realized that Alfonso was as cunning as Albert.

Dominique narrowed his eyes at that thought. "But he wasn’t there when my family was murdered. I only saw Albert."

"The reason why I spared him and his family was because we formed an alliance in the past to steal the company from Albert. They became my pawns in this game of chess," he explained.

Arnold continued rubbing his chin, thinking about something. "I don’t know why I have this nagging feeling about Alfonso Williams. He started showing his true color. Have you investigated that tragic incident thoroughly? What if you missed something, son?"

"What do you mean, Dad?"

"Well. Given Alfonso’s action of attempting to kill you, I can’t push away the possibility that he also had involvement in your family’s death. I don’t think he is innocent."

Dominique realized that his deep resentment toward Sabrina’s father blinded his judgment. He never did consider or suspect the possibility of Alfonso playing a role in that tragic incident.

It suddenly hit him, like a punch to the gut. Alfonso had always been at Sabrina’s father’s side, working closely with him. Dominique had overlooked him completely since his hatred had only been directed to a single target– Sabrina’s father.

"Do you want me to reinvestigate it, son?" Arnold broke the deafening silence.

Dominique looked up, meeting the eyes of his mentor, the one person he trusted the most.

"Yes," he finally replied, his voice low but resolute. "I need to know what really happened. I can no longer ignore his evil schemes. If Alfonso was involved... then... I will make sure to punish him as well."

Arnold smiled and squeezed his shoulder. "Alright. Leave it to me, son."
