Chapter 259: Lost the Chance

Miguel narrowed his eyes on Vladimir. His son was hellbent on preventing him from revealing the truth to Dominique.

"Can’t you understand my intention? The kids deserve to know who their father is. Furthermore, I’m giving your sister and Dominique the chance to reconcile and be together. Dominique is going to divorce his wife. This is also her opportunity to complete her family."

Vladimir was caught off guard the moment he heard that.

’My father wants my sister to marry Dominique. That will be impossible. And what did he say? Dominique is divorcing his wife? Didn’t he inform my father that he had nothing to do with my sister, Lanny?’ Vladimir looked at Miguel suspiciously. Things didn’t add up.

"I thought you wanted Dmitri for my sister? When did Dominique become your option? Why him?" Vladimir questioned him once again.

Miguel smirked. "Why not Dominique? He is very qualified to become my son-in-law as well. He is a wealthy tycoon here and he started from scratch."

Vladimir wasn’t convinced by his reasoning. Being a wealthy tycoon was not enough reason to let Dominique become part of the Ivankov Family.

"What are you up to Dad? How will you explain this to Dmitri’s family? You are making things complicated. I won’t accept Dominique Smith. You have to choose between us. Your biological son or that outsider?"

Vladimir didn’t hesitate to antagonize his father. He would do anything for Athena. He couldn’t let Dominique be close to Aaron.

Meanwhile, Miguel let out a sarcastic laugh. He never expected Vladimir to become so bold.

"Are you threatening me, Vlad, just because you are my biological son? Don’t test me. Remember, I haven’t chosen my successor. You are urging me to choose between you and Dominique. Haha. Do you expect me to choose you?" Miguel shot him a dangerous glare.

Vladimir clenched his fist while frowning. ’Why do I feel like my father already knows Dominique?’

"Vlad." Miguel gripped his shoulder tightly. "Though you are my son, you don’t have the right to dictate what I should do."

Without further ado, Miguel walked away, leaving Vladimir behind. He failed to stop his father. With a heart filled with frustration, all he could do was follow him.

As soon as they returned, Vladimir wasted no time. He immediately grabbed Athena’s hand and pulled her to her feet.

"Athena, let’s go. We don’t need to stay here anymore," he said firmly, his voice laced with annoyance.

Athena blinked, startled by Vladimir’s sudden shift in his mood. His jaw was tight, his gaze cold and furious as he looked daggers in his father’s direction. She could feel the rising conflict between the two, though she didn’t fully understand what had happened between them.

Meanwhile, Lanny and the children exchanged confused glances, their eyes flicking between Miguel and Vladimir. They could tell that the father and son had just some arguments.

On the other hand, Dominique had his gaze locked on Athena and Vladimir’s intertwined hands, his face tightening with jealousy. Seeing another man touching Athena like that stirred his emotions from within, and his heart tightened.

Sensing the heavy tension between Vladimir and Miguel, Athena instinctively stood and followed Vladimir out of the restaurant. His grip on her hand was firm but not harsh, and though she felt uneasy, she trusted him enough not to pull away.

Upon reaching the car, Athena started asking Vladimir, her face painted with worry. "What’s wrong, V? Did you argue with your father?"

Vladimir turned around to face her, his expression softening as he met her worried gaze. Without hesitation, he pulled her into a hug. "I’m sorry, Athena. I failed to convince my father. He is going to tell Dominique that Aaron is his son."

Athena froze in her spot when she heard that. She couldn’t do anything about it anymore.

"What will happen to my plan now? Dominique will deny it since he never got involved with Lanny. This will cause confusion for Miguel and Dominique. If Miguel dugs deeper then he will find out that Aaron is not Lanny’s son. And Dominique will know that I’m alive." Athena expressed her concern with her trembling voice.

"Lanny and you will be in trouble for lying to your father. And..." Athena shook her head vehemently. "This can’t be happening! I don’t want Aaron to know that Dominique is his father."

Athena grabbed Vladimir’s shirt in panic. "What should I do now, V? What should I do?"

Vladimir couldn’t stand seeing Athena in this vulnerable state. She looked very anxious and she was panicking.

’I must do something! I can’t let my father interfere with Athena’s plan. He must leave this country as soon as possible!’

"Don’t worry, Athena. I will find ways." He declared with conviction.

Vladimir wasted no time as he contacted his loyal subordinates. He gave them an urgent command. "Do it now!"

Back at the restaurant, Miguel apologized to Dominique for Vladimir’s rude behavior earlier.

"Please don’t mind him. My son is in his rebelling stage."

Dominique just smiled faintly, pretending he didn’t care about it. But deep inside, he was truly bothered by Athena’s closeness to Vladimir. He saw Vladimir as a rival.

’He is born into a respectable family. He is good-looking as well. There is a possibility Athena may fall for him.’ Dominique admitted inwardly. He felt very threatened by Vladimir’s presence. He somehow felt inferior to Vladimir because of Athena.

’What if she’s already moved on? What if she only approached me for revenge? What if... Vladimir and Athena are already in a relationship?’ Dominique was no longer paying attention to Miguel’s words. His mind was consumed with unsettling questions about Athena and Vladimir, leaving him too distracted to focus on anything else.

"Mr. Smith, are you still with us?" Miguel tapped Dominique’s shoulder, catching his attention.

"I’m sorry, Mr. Ivankov." Dominique quickly apologized, realizing he had missed part of the conversation. "I was a bit distracted and didn’t catch what you said."

"I’m talking about you and my daughter, Lanny. I am asking you what do you feel about her?" he repeated, his voice calm but probing.

Lanny’s lips pressed into a thin line as she struggled to contain her growing frustration. She could already sense where this conversation was headed, and she didn’t like it one bit.

Even Aaron and Kimmy were puzzled why their grandfather was asking Dominique about what he felt about their mother. It just felt strange.

Dominique hesitated to answer, glancing at Lanny. He was cautious to give the old man an answer. Fortunately, the ringing sound of the phone interrupted their conversation. It was a call coming from Miguel’s subordinate.

Miguel narrowed his eyes slightly but remained composed as he answered the call. A few seconds later, Miguel’s expression shifted from shocked to angry.

"What the hell is going on? Are you serious?!" Miguel shouted angrily, forgetting about the other people’s presence in front of him.

Without looking back, Miguel bolted out of the room with hurried footsteps. Lanny and Dominique were left behind together with the two kids. Everyone was wondering what had just happened that made Miguel leave without saying anything to them. It appeared to be an emergency.

As a result, Miguel lost the chance to go through with his plan to reveal Dominique’s connection to Aaron and Kimmy.
