Chapter 249: Help You Forget

After leaving the hospital, Enzo returned to their apartment. He was still burdened by the revelation. He didn’t know if Alice’s feelings for him were just part of her deception.

Enzo wanted to forget it so he decided to drown himself with alcoholic drinks. He bought several bottles of beer and drank them as if he was just drinking water.

He reminisced about the moments he had spent with Alice over the past five years. She had become his hero and pillar of support. But he never expected that she was just doing those things because of the mission given to her by Dominique.

’Is this the reason why she keeps on rejecting my marriage proposal? She doesn’t love me for real.’ Enzo could only think of this conclusion.

As he kept chugging on his drink, someone popped up in his mind. It was Lanny. He needed someone to talk to at this moment.

Without further ado, Enzo dialed Lanny’s contact number.

Lanny had just finished preparing the food for the kids when she noticed Enzo’s phone call. She let Dmitri accompany Kimmy and Aaron to the dining area, and she excused herself as she went to answer the phone.

"Hello, Enzo? What’s up?"

There was a moment of silence for a few seconds before she heard Enzo’s hoarse voice.

"Lanny... can I see you right now? Are you available?"

Lanny was taken aback for a moment as she noticed something strange in Enzo’s voice. Did something wrong happen to him?

"Okay. Where are you?" Lanny asked him worriedly.

"Apartment," Enzo simply replied.

"I’m coming. Wait for me." Lanny didn’t hesitate to see him.

"Thanks, Lanny. I need you right now."

Her heart skipped a beat when she heard those words coming from Enzo.

Without further ado, Lanny headed to her room, changing her clothes. When she stepped out, Kimmy and others caught her attention.

"Mommy, are you leaving? Aren’t you going to eat with us?" Kimmy asked her in puzzlement.

’I’m going to meet your Dad,’ Lanny thought to herself while smiling faintly at Kimmy.

"I have to buy something in the market. I’ll be back. For now, you have to stay here with your Uncle Dmitri. Make sure you behave, understand?" After saying that, Lanny shifted her gaze to Dmitri.

Dmitri nodded, reassuring her that he would take care of the children while she was not around.

"Take care, Mommy!"

Aaron and Kimmy said goodbye to Lanny. She drove to Enzo’s apartment. It did not take long before she reached her destination.

She rang the doorbell immediately. It took Enzo a time before he was able to open the door for her.

Lanny frowned the moment she sniffed Enzo’s scent with a mix of beer.

"Are you drunk as early as this?" Lanny blurted out in disbelief.

Enzo just giggled before pulling her inside the house.

"No. I’m not drunk yet." He denied it as he staggered on his feet.

Lanny had to support his body so that he could walk straight. She made him sit on the couch. When she roamed her eyes around, she saw several empty bottles scattered on the floor.

"What’s wrong, Enzo? Why did you drink a lot?" Lanny started to pick the bottles up to clean the living room area. "Where’s Alice?"

Enzo’s face turned grim at the mention of Alice’s name.

"She’s not here. She’s with her Boss." Enzo let out a sarcastic laugh.

Lanny frowned, sensing his odd behavior.

"Did you fight with her? Another argument?" Lanny put down the bottles and sat next to Enzo.

Enzo shook his head as he lowered his gaze. It was so hard for him to accept that Alice had been deceiving him for so long.

"Everything was a lie," he started, confiding his feelings with Lanny.

Lanny was a little bit confused so she grabbed his shoulders, turning him to face her.

"What do you mean?"

Enzo met her gaze and his eyes started to tear up. He punched his chest.

"It hurts here, Lanny. Alice doesn’t love me for real. I finally understood the reason why she kept on refusing my marriage proposal. For her... I am not her lover. I’m just part of her mission."

Lanny was at a loss for words when she heard that. She had a nagging feeling about this.

’Wait. Don’t tell me Enzo has discovered the truth about Alice’s identity... Alice is connected to Dominique.’

Athena and Lanny were already aware of this but they decided to hide this from Enzo, thinking he would be hurt once he found out.

Enzo continued speaking his mind, telling Lanny about what he discovered.

"Lanny, Alice is working under Dominique Smith. He paid her to take care of me. Everything about us was just a lie."

Enzo’s tears just continued to flow down his face. He was clearly in pain right now. Lanny couldn’t bear to see him like this.

She reached out, her hands touching his face and fingers wiping his tears.

"Shhh. Don’t cry. Don’t waste your tears. She doesn’t deserve it." Lanny wanted to comfort him.

"I can’t help it. I feel like there are daggers piercing my heart right now." Enzo admitted to her.

This time Lanny raised his head so that she could meet his eyes. Enzo was now staring at her.

"It’s alright, Enzo. I’m here. I’ll help you ease the pain. I will help you forget about her."

Enzo furrowed his eyebrows. "How? How will you do that?"

Lanny smiled at him before she leaned closer to him. "Like this," she softly whispered.

Before he knew it, Lanny’s lips already touched his, her lips gently brushing his lips in a passionate kiss.

Enzo froze for a moment, his mind still trying to process what was happening. Then suddenly, Lanny’s hand was already grabbing the back of his head, pulling him closer to deepen the kiss.

Enzo just found himself responding to the intensity of her kisses. He opened his mouth, letting her tongue explore his inside. Who would have thought that a kiss from Lanny could help him forget about Alice even just for a while?

At that certain moment, a burning desire was awakened inside him. And he could no longer restrain himself and he let go of his feelings. He just wanted to focus on Lanny. He wanted her so much!
