Chapter 246: Whisper of Love

[ At Athena’s Penthouse... ]

Athena sat in her music studio, staring at the piano absentmindedly. She was still bothered by Sasha’s pregnancy. To clear her mind, her fingers started to move, playing the piano keys. She immersed herself in the sweet melody of the song she was singing.

She slowly closed her eyes, letting her feelings out through this one song. Her heart was filled with complicated emotions right now. Singing a song was the only way to calm herself down.

As she got lost in the sweet melody, she didn’t pay much attention to her surroundings. She failed to notice that someone had already entered her music room.

Vladimir stood at the entrance door, stopping on his track. He smiled as soon as he saw her. He decided not to disturb her and just watched her in his spot.

A lot of things happened lately. He dropped by to see whether Athena was doing fine or not.

’I need to protect no matter what.’ Vladimir swore to himself.

With the new threat coming from the Williams Family, Vladimir knew that Athena needed some protection.

He slowly walked toward her, still admiring her sweet voice and her beautiful face. When he reached her spot, his gaze fell on her red lips. He paused for a moment as he couldn’t take his eyes off her.

He gulped hard as her soft red lips seemed like tempting him. He was dying to kiss this woman. He had been wanting to do it. But because of his fear, he never allowed himself to succumb to his burning desire.

’Sigh. What should I do? I don’t know how long I can restrain myself. Whenever I see her with her ex-husband, I feel so jealous. I don’t want her to be close to him. And I’m scared to lose her.’ Vladimir admitted his insecurity. He was jealous of Dominique and he was threatened by his presence, that’s why he never hesitated to assassinate him.

But after Athena had discovered his plan, Vladimir regretted his action. He never meant to break his promise to Athena. He was just blinded by his jealousy.

Vladimir was still in the middle of restraining himself from kissing Athena when she suddenly opened her eyes. She stopped singing as she was surprised by Vladimir’s presence.

"V? How long have you been standing here?" Athena asked him in puzzlement. "I’m sorry. I didn’t notice you earlier."

But Vladimir shook his head. "I should be the one apologizing to you. I entered your house without your permission. I’m sorry for disturbing your ’Me’ Time."

Athena just looked at him for a moment before moving to the side. Then she invited him to sit beside her by tapping her hand on the vacant space next to her.

Vladimir nodded with a smile before sitting down.

"Athena, don’t worry about your brother. I’ve already fixed the problem. The truth will come to light. He will no longer be suspected by the police." Vladimir reassured her.

Athena gave him a grateful look. "Thanks, V."

She turned only to meet his intense gaze. There was a moment of silence between the two. No one spoke but their eyes seemed like they were communicating with each other.

Vladimir’s hand instinctively moved, reaching out to caress her face. "I’m sorry again... Athena, for breaking my promise and disappointing you. Honestly, I thought... it was the only way to bury the truth about Aaron’s identity."

Vladimir took a deep sigh before continuing, "But I know... deep inside, I was just jealous of your ex-husband. I can’t bear to see you with him... I want him to suffer and pay for the sins he committed against you. He must experience the same pain he had caused you."

Athena was at a loss for words. She didn’t know how she would react upon hearing Vladimir’s real feelings. For some unknown reason, she felt guilty. Vladimir had already confessed his feelings for her so she knew that getting close to Dominique would hurt Vladimir.

Athena looked away, biting her lower lip. ’If only I had met Vladimir first, I guess I wouldn’t suffer so much from Dominique’s betrayal. I could feel V’s sincerity. However... I can’t reciprocate his feelings for now.’

"V... I’m–"

Vladimir didn’t let her finish her sentence as he pressed his forefinger against her lips.

"I might be asking too much... But Athena... please stay away from him. Don’t force yourself to interact with that bastard just because of your revenge. I know it’s hard for you to pretend that you are just fine being with him, laughing and smiling in front of him."

"If you want your company back... I will find ways to reclaim it. Please let me help you... just don’t go near him." Vladimir pleaded.

"I will deal with the Williams Family as well. Just give me your permission, Athena." He continued convincing her.

Athena fell silent for a moment, reconsidering Vladimir’s offer.

’Should I just listen to V? Can I let go of my revenge? Sasha is pregnant with Dominique’s child now. Should I just stop this and leave this country for good?’ Athena smiled bitterly at that thought.

She didn’t know what she wanted anymore. ’Why am I hesitating now? I prepared myself for five years just to do my revenge.’ She shook her head, trying to strengthen her resolve.

"Let me think about it, V. For now, I’m tired. I want to take a rest." Athena stood up, feeling a little bit down. She couldn’t erase Sasha’s pregnancy off her mind.

"Okay. I’ll wait for your answer. Please reconsider it," Vladimir responded with a hopeful look in his eyes.

Athena nodded with a faint smile. "Yes. I will."

She was about to head out of her music room when suddenly she felt a strong arm pulling her from behind. Before she knew it, her body was already engulfed by Vladimir’s tight embrace.

Athena stood frozen in her spot the moment her body got in contact with Vladimir. She could feel his warmth. She badly needed it right now. And it somehow comforted her troubled heart. She just let him hug her. They stood there for only God knows how long. She just rested her back against Vladimir’s sturdy chest.

Then suddenly, Vladimir whispered something to her.

"Athena... I want to marry you... I love you."
