Chapter 239: Who Wanted to Frame Him?

Alice and Athena were both rushing inside the York City Police Department, searching for Enzo.

"Where did they bring Mr. Enzo Williama? We need to see him!" Athena asked the police on duty at the information desk.

"He was brought to the interrogation room. You can’t go there, Ma’am, unless you are his attorney." The police calmly explained to her. They were clueless about the plan of other police officers to torture Enzo just to force a false confession from him.

"You have to wait. I can escort you to our visitor lounge area," he politely added.

Athena’s heart was beating rapidly against her chest. She couldn’t allow her brother to be imprisoned for the crime he didn’t do.

She just nodded and followed the police officer. On the other hand, Alice was silent as she stayed with Athena. She was still wondering as to why Enzo got involved in Dominique’s accident.

It did not take long before they reached the waiting lounge. They sat down together as they waited for Enzo’s attorney to arrive.

Athena was secretly observing Alice. She opened up a conversation with her.

"Alice, do you think Enzo can do this to Dominique Smith?" She asked her while eyeing her meaningfully.

Lanny and Athena were still trying to figure out Alice’s connection to Dominique. At this moment, she wanted to find out Alice’s thoughts and feelings regarding the incident.

Alice stared at Athena for a long moment before answering her.

"No. Enzo will never do that. Furthermore, he didn’t have enough money to hire someone. The driver must be lying." Alice expressed her opinion about this matter.

She was loyal to Dominique but at the same time, she knew Enzo. For the past few years of being together, she learned more about Enzo. He had a kind heart. He won’t kill someone or attempt to kill Dominique.

Athena heaved a sigh of relief when she heard Alice’s response. At least, she knew that Alice was on Enzo’s sides.

"Do you know Dominique Smith?" Athena confronted Alice, wondering how she would react to her question.

But Alice maintained her neutral expression as she replied, "Yes."

Athena was taken aback for a moment when Alice didn’t deny knowing Dominique. But suddenly...

"Who wouldn’t know him? He is a famous businessman here in York City."

Athena felt a little bit disappointed since Alice chose to hide her real connection to Dominique.

’Sigh. She will never admit it.’

"Alice, I have a serious question for you. I hope you can answer it with honesty." Athena knew that Enzo was in love with Alice and he cared so much about her. He would be heartbroken once he found out that Alice was conniving with Dominique behind Enzo’s back.

"Sure. Just ask me." Alice was willing to hear it.

"Do you really love Enzo? Do you see yourself settling down with him?" Athena looked straight into Alice’s eyes, observing all her facial expressions.

Surprisingly, Athena saw different reactions on her face. Alice was speechless for a few seconds, finding the right words to answer those questions.

’Is Athena testing me? Is she suspicious of my real feelings for Enzo?’

"Of course, I love Enzo..." Alice was careful with her words. She didn’t want to raise suspicion. "I am willing to settle down with him. That’s why... I can’t allow him to be imprisoned here. We must find a way to prove his innocence."

Athena just nodded. For some unknown reason, she didn’t feel any feelings when Alice answered her questions. She saw uncertainty in Alice’s eyes. Was she just overthinking?

Before Athena could say another word, the attorney sent by Gael finally arrived, approaching them.

"Miss Athena! I’m Attorney Delgado. You can come with me to see Mr. Enzo Williams."

Athena immediately stood up to greet the attorney. Alice just watched her back, feeling puzzled.

’Why is she overly concerned about Enzo? Is she just a friend? Or something more?’ Alice frowned at that thought.

Without wasting any more time, the two ladies followed the attorney. When they reached the interrogation room, they were surprised when they didn’t see Enzo inside.

"Huh? Where is Mr. Enzo?" Atty. Delgado questioned the police officer who guided them to the interrogation room.

Even the police officer didn’t know why the suspect and the police in charge of interrogating him were not there.

Alice and Athena also gave the police officer a questioning gaze. How could Enzo disappear? Did they put him in the prison cell already?

"Let me check, Attorney. There might be changes in location. Wait for me here." The police officer immediately left to check and confirm the exact location where Enzo was brought in.

Alice and Athena just exchanged worried looks at each other.

’What’s going on here? Where and what did they do to my brother?’ Athena pondered to herself.

They were still waiting for the police officer to return when they heard footsteps coming in. The three of them turned around only to be surprised by Enzo. He stood outside the door absentmindedly.

"Enzo! Where have you been?" Athena’s voice snapped him back to the present.

Enzo’s lips curled up as soon as he saw Alice and Athena. He immediately ran toward them. He was supposed to hug Alice but his body acted on his own. He ended up embracing Athena.

Alice just stood frozen in her spot as she watched this unfolding scene. For the first time, she felt some kind of jealousy in her heart.

"How are you? Why do you look like you are in a daze?" Athena asked her brother worriedly.

Enzo hugged her tightly. "I’m just fine."

He didn’t want her to know that someone tried to torture him in another interrogation room.

Soon, the police officer returned.

"Mr. Enzo, where are Sgt. Gonzales and the other two officers?"

Enzo was rendered speechless for a moment as he tried to recall what transpired earlier. Sgt. Gonzales and his company tried to electro-torture him when someone suddenly interfered.

A man in police uniform entered the room and used a stunned gun to immobilize Sgt. Gonzales and his two subordinates. The three of them fell to the ground immediately.

Enzo didn’t expect that someone would come to rescue him. The unknown police immediately untied him and instructed him to go to the other interrogation room. But before Enzo left, his savior asked him to keep it a secret and not say a word.

"You shouldn’t be interrogated here. Go to the usual interrogation room on the next floor. I will deal with these people. But please, keep this between us. Don’t tell anyone."

Expressing his gratitude, Enzo agreed to his request. So he didn’t mention anything to Athena, Alice, and Atty. Delgado.

"I don’t know where they go. I just came from the comfort room. I haven’t seen them after they escorted me to the restroom." Enzo lied to them.

The police officer just nodded as he scratched his head. Sgt. Gonzales was tasked to interrogate Enzo and get his statement. However, he was nowhere to be found.

"Sgt. Gonzales is not here. I will ask my Boss who will take over on his behalf."

Enzo just sighed when the police left. His mind was still wondering who was behind this. Who was trying to frame him?
