Athena’s body tensed up when she felt Vladimir’s lips inching closer and closer to hers.

She could feel his hot breath fanning her cheeks. The gaps between their lips were only a few centimeters. Athena almost forgot to breathe.

Clenching her fists, Athena waited for their lips to touch. But then...

Ding! Dong!

The ringing sound of the doorbell made her jolt, reflexively pushing Vladimir away from her.

Athena snapped her eyes open and apologized to Vladimir right away.

"I’m sorry," she uttered under her breath. She didn’t know why she was apologizing to Vladimir.

Meanwhile, Vladimir’s face turned rigid, his expression cold as he stared at the door.

He was about to kiss Athena but the person outside interrupted them. The magical moment had been broken because of the sound of the doorbell.

Ding! Dong!

Athena looked at Vladimir worriedly. She wasn’t expecting any visitors today.

’Is it Lanny? I don’t think so. She is busy with her guest, Dmitri.’

Vladimir rose from the couch to check the person outside. But before he could make a step, Athena caught his wrist thus stopping him.

"Stay here. Let me." Athena volunteered to check on the visitor. She had a bad feeling about this.

’What if the person outside is Dominique? He has a habit of visiting my place without informing me.’

Athena couldn’t afford to let Vladimir meet Dominique outside her doorstep. If that person was Dominique, she had to send him away.

"V, if you are sleepy, you can rest in my room. I’ll be back." Athena gently pushed him toward her room.

Before Vladimir could react, Athena closed the door behind her and she headed out to check the visitor outside.

Vladimir could only frown as he watched the door. ’Why is she nervous?’ He pondered to himself.

Fortunately, Vladimir got distracted by Athena’s room. This was his first time entering her bedroom. He looked around and saw the pictures on her bedside.

Vladimir sat down and picked up the picture frame. He smiled upon seeing Athena’s photo together with Lanny and the twins. Lanny was carrying Kimmy in her arms while Athena was embracing Aaron.

As he watched the photo, Athena’s past suddenly popped up in Vladimir’s mind.

’Athena is Sabrina Williams. When I did a background check on Enzo, I also stumbled on the information related to Sabrina. Before she jumped into the bridge, there was a hospital record, saying she was four weeks pregnant.’

Vladimir narrowed his eyes and brought his gaze back to the photo. He looked at Aaron’s face, then to Lanny. He compared the physical features of the two. As compared to Kimmy and Lanny, Aaron didn’t have any resemblance to Lanny.

His suspicion grew. Then Vladimir picked up his phone and searched for Enzo’s close-up photo. He observed Enzo’s features, comparing them to Aaron’s.

The crease on Vladimir’s forehead deepened further when he realized something.

"I can’t see any similarities between Aaron and Enzo."

Vladimir checked his email from his phone wherein he could see the investigation report of his men. He searched for Dominique’s picture.

Vladimir’s eyes widened, his fingers gripping his phone tightly. A sudden surge of anger filled his heart.

"This can’t be... No way. Aaron is not an Ivankov. He might be... Athena’s son and that bastard." A cold glint flashed through Vladimir’s eyes as he clenched his teeth, fury coursing through his veins at the realization.

"Lanny and Athena haven’t told me everything. Aaron is not her son... What the hell is she thinking? She deceived our father! Is she crazy?! Didn’t she consider the possible consequences once our father finds out the truth?" Vladimir’s voice rose, echoing in the empty room as his rage escalated.

He paced back and forth, his mind racing with the implications of Lanny’s deception. His eyes burned with a mixture of betrayal and anger. His own sister had kept such a crucial secret from him.

’That bastard and Aaron have an uncanny resemblance. Even without a DNA test, I can tell that they are blood-related.’

Vladimir could picture the fallout vividly. His father, Miguel, was not a man to be trifled with. He was a powerful, influential figure who valued loyalty and honesty above all else. The revelation of Aaron’s true parentage would be seen as the ultimate betrayal.

’I know my father,’ Vladimir thought, his jaw tightening further. ’Miguel will not let this thing go. Aaron and Athena’s lives might be put in danger.’

He stopped pacing and gripped the edge of his desk, his knuckles turning white. Lanny’s foolishness could lead to catastrophic consequences.

"Lanny, what have you done?" he muttered under his breath, his mind filled with a swirl of anger, worry, and protectiveness. He couldn’t believe his sister would take such a reckless risk. She knew the stakes, she knew what was at risk, yet she chose to deceive their father.

He needed to act, and fast. He had to find a way to protect Aaron and Athena from the inevitable wrath of Miguel Ivankov.

"This secret must be buried forever. The best thing to do is to eliminate the threat. Dominique Smith must be gone. He shouldn’t cross paths with either Aaron and my father, Miguel." With a determined look in his eyes, Vladimir made a decision.

Vladimir called his most trusted subordinate, Luna.

"Luna, proceed with our initial plan. No need to hold back. Make him disappear." Vladimir gave Luna his order.

"Got it, Boss. I am making all the preparations. I’ll do it fast and clean." Luna reassured him.

Vladimir nodded before hanging up the phone. His gaze fell on the picture once again and his thoughts turned to Aaron, the innocent child caught in the middle of this dangerous game.

’Now I understand why Athena is so fond of my nephew. It turns out... Aaron is her own child... her son. I need to confront her.’ Vladimir put down the picture frame and headed for the door. He had to find Athena and talk to her.

Meanwhile, outside the gate, Athena couldn’t believe it. Her fear came true. The person standing outside was none other than Dominique.

"What are you doing here? You can’t be here at this hour!" Athena exclaimed, feeling anxious.
