Chapter 118: Tempt Him

[ At Lanny’s Condo Unit... ]

Lanny and Enzo returned home together. He was grateful to Lanny and Vladimir for allowing him to work at Goddess Elixirs Cafe.

"How’s your first day? Are you tired?" Lanny asked as they entered the kitchen. The two decided to cook dinner.

Enzo shook his head, smiling broadly. "No. I’m not. Working there is very stress-free. The working environment is welcoming. I felt a little bit embarrassed because my colleagues seemed like they were covering for me. They didn’t allow me to handle the difficult task. They told me just to observe them and learn."

Lanny giggled softly. She could somehow sense that Vladimir had something to do with the good treatment Enzo had received from his colleagues.

’Thanks to my brother Enzo got an easy life on his first day of duty.’ Lanny smiled inwardly.

But her smile soon disappeared when Enzo’s phone rang. She caught a glimpse of the word "Sweetheart" on his phone screen.

"Hello, Sweety!" Enzo’s excited voice echoed inside the kitchen.

He simply glanced at Lanny, excusing himself for a moment.

Lanny could only nod, forcing a smile. She couldn’t deny that her mood turned gloomy after seeing how excited Enzo was when he talked to Alice over the phone.

"I miss you!" Those were the last words she heard from Enzo before he disappeared from her sight.

"He missed Alice..." Lanny mumbled with a sullen look on her face.

After a while, she smacked her cheeks using both hands and said, "Hey, Lanny! Don’t get jealous! You don’t have the right!"

"Just focus on cooking," she added, trying to ignore the negative feelings surging up inside her heart.

However, no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t concentrate on what she was doing. Her mind was wandering off somewhere.

"Sigh! What took him so long to talk to his girlfriend? He said he would assist with tonight’s cooking!" Lanny complained as she put the seasoning on the soup she was cooking.

She kept glancing at the entrance door of the kitchen, waiting for Enzo’s return. She felt impatient.

She stomped her feet as she walked across the kitchen. She scrunched her eyebrows while pursing her lips.

She was done cooking but Enzo hadn’t returned yet. She left the kitchen and she decided to take a peek to check on him.

She heard him laughing in the living room. He was still talking to Alice. She just stood from behind, eavesdropping on their conversation.

Enzo didn’t know that Lanny was watching him from behind. His attention was focused on Alice as they were video calling each other right now.

"Darling, has your supervisor approved your vacation request?" Enzo asked her expectantly.

"No. She didn’t," Alice responded promptly.

Enzo felt disappointed, the excitement in his eyes disappeared.

However, before he could say another word, Alice spoke again, smiling at him broadly.

"But I submitted my resignation letter. I can follow you now in York City," Alice informed him excitedly.

Enzo’s jaws dropped in surprise. "Huh? You did that? But why? Don’t compromise your work because of me."

But Alice shook her head. "It’s fine. I can just find work in York City. I thought you missed me. I did this to finally reunite with you in that city."

Enzo’s face brightened up when he heard that. "Are you sure about that? Will you not regret your decision?"

"Of course. I’m fine staying in York City and looking for another hospital. I have my connection there. It might help me get a new job. With this, we can be together!"

Enzo bobbed his head frantically. "I will wait for you here... Alice. My darling."

Alice let out a soft giggle. "Okay, my darling. I have to go now. Tonight is my last duty here in the hospital."

"Okay. I’ll see you soon. Take care always. Let’s talk again tomorrow."

When Enzo and Alice’s conversation ended, Lanny simply went back to the kitchen.

Enzo rose from the couch and proceeded to Lanny’s location. He excitedly hugged Lanny upon reaching her spot and he shared the reason why he was so happy.

"Lanny! My girlfriend is going to stay here with me in York City!"

Lanny just stood frozen in her spot. She didn’t know how she would react to that. Deep inside, she felt jealous seeing how happy Enzo was because of Alice.

’Stop hugging me like this, Enzo. You are just hurting my feelings further.’ She thought to herself, trying her best to conceal her jealousy.

When Enzo broke the hug, Lanny forced a smile, pretending she was also happy for them.

"It’s good! You can be together now!"

Lanny’s heart clenched inside her chest when she said those words. Internally, she wasn’t fine about it.

"Yes. Because of that, I have to look for an apartment where Alice and I can stay. Do you have any recommendations?" Enzo consulted her.

Lanny was disheartened when she heard that. This only meant Enzo would no longer stay in her condo unit. But she couldn’t offer them to stay with her. She was not a martyr!

’I can’t bear to see them together here in my own unit. So I have no choice but to let Enzo go.’

"Alright. I will help you in searching for a nice yet affordable apartment," she volunteered.

Enzo hugged her again to express his gratitude toward her.

"Thanks, Lanny."

"Come. Let’s eat!" Lanny simply pushed him away from her body as she immediately changed the topic.

"Oh shoot! I forgot to help you. I’m so sorry." Enzo scratched his face, feeling apologetic.

He held her shoulders, making her sit on the chair. "Stay put here. I’ll serve the food.".

Since Lanny was not in the mood, she just let him do what he wanted as she waited for him to get the utensils and prepared the food on their table.

Enzo couldn’t hide his happiness. He was even humming as he served the food at their table. Soon, he sat down next to Lanny.

"Let’s enjoy the meal!" Enzo softly mumbled as he grabbed his spoon, getting ready to taste the soup Lanny cooked earlier.

Lanny just nodded lazily, not having an appetite. She didn’t even hold her spoon and fork appropriately, just staring at her food.

When Enzo began tasting her food, the smile on his face was immediately replaced by a contorted expression.

He quickly covered his mouth with his hand, struggling to keep from spitting out the food. He didn’t want to offend Lanny, knowing she had put effort into cooking the meal.

’Too hot... and excessively salty,’ Enzo mused to himself.

"What’s the matter?" Lanny inquired, arching an eyebrow in concern.

He swallowed hard and removed his hand before smiling at her awkwardly. He didn’t know how he would tell her that there was something wrong with the soup.

"I accidentally bit my tongue," he said as an excuse.

Lanny just nodded. She scooped the soup to taste it when Enzo suddenly interrupted her by holding her wrist.

She looked at him with puzzlement. "Hey, let go of my hand. How am I going to eat?"

Enzo scratched his face awkwardly, trying to find the right words to say that wouldn’t offend Lanny.

"Enzo, Let. Go!" Lanny commanded him. She was in a grumpy mood right now.

Not wanting to anger her, he immediately released her wrist.

"Lanny... the soup..."

"What’s wrong with the soup?" She spooned another mouthful, eager to taste it at last.

Cough! Cough!

Lanny choked when the super weird flavor of the soup hit her taste buds. It seemed her earlier distraction had taken its toll on her cooking.

She couldn’t concentrate on cooking as she had constantly glanced towards the kitchen entrance, anticipating Enzo’s return. It turned out she poured too much spices and seasoning. She didn’t even taste it as she was eager to check on Enzo.

"Water," Enzo handed her a glass of water. He smiled apologetically.

Lanny drank the water, waving her hand.

"Don’t apologize. It’s my fault. I ruined the soup." Lanny felt embarrassed, avoiding his gaze.

Enzo just let out a soft chuckle, enjoying her reaction.

"I think... it’s my turn to cook. Let me handle it." Enzo gently patted her head as if he was petting a puppy.

"Okay. I’ll just go back to my room. Just call me if you are done."

Lanny rose from her seat and made her way to her room. With Enzo occupied in the kitchen, she seized the opportunity to indulge in a soothing shower, hoping to clear her mind and regain her composure. She was still affected by the thought of Enzo leaving her condo unit because of Alice. It weighed heavily on her.

As the warm water cascaded over her, a sudden idea sparked in her mind. Deliberately unlocking and opening her bathroom door, she left herself exposed, inviting someone from outside to catch a glimpse of her nakedness.

’Let’s see. I wonder how Enzo will react once he sees me naked. Will he be tempted by me? I have to try.’
