Chapter 62: How Dare You?

Chapter 62: How Dare You?

(SASHA)

Dr Nicholas’ announcement does shock me, but Tyler looks completely gutted.

"Why not? What’s wrong?" he blurts out.

The doctor winces as he places the folder on the table. "I’m afraid we can’t perform the procedure today because you are severely anaemic. Have you been feeling dizzy lately, or weak? Any fainting spells?"

Tyler swallows hard.

I gaze at him and then turn my attention to the doctor. "He’s been feeling all of that. He almost fainted on our way here today."

Tyler looks at me as though I’ve given up his biggest secret.

"What?" I blurt out. "Is it a lie?"

"Is this a trick?" Tyler glares at me.

"What do you mean? What is a trick?"

Tyler slides off the table and approaches Dr Nicholas. "What is this? Did Sasha bribe you? Did he threaten you?"

Dr. Nicholas’ eyes go wide as he holds a hand up. "Wait. What? What are you talking about?"

Tyler’s attention turns to me. He is angry and out of control. "Tell me the truth, Sasha. You bribed him., didn’t you? I don’t understand your sick reasons for not wanting me to go through with the abortion. What is this, Sasha? Huh?... Do you like tormenting me? That’s it? Are you doing this because I won’t tell you who the father of the baby is?"

He exhales sharply. "It has nothing to do with you, Sasha. That’s my business and you have no right to interfere."

I purse, summoning my patience. "Why the fuck would I care what you choose to do with the child? Are you having a stroke or what?"

His gaze flickers and he bites his jaw. "Who knows what your reasons are? Whatever the reasons are, I know they benefit you. Just you and nobody else."

I’m summoning all my willpower to not strangle this little shit right here. He’s being so disrespectful to me in front of a civilian. He has no business talking to me like he is doing right now, especially in front of Dr. Nicholas.

Dr Nicholas sensing the tension tries to calm him down. "Tyler, no one is trying to force you from having an abortion." His voice is agitated. "Why would you even think that?"

Even as the doctor speaks, Tyler seems to pay no attention to him. He is directing all his frustration to me. "You’re doing this to me because I won’t tell you who the baby’s father is. Admit it. You’re such a spiteful person, Sasha."

I get up and jab a finger on his chest. "I have nothing to do with this, Tyler. Do you hear me?"

"Liar," he hisses, his voice breaking. "You just enjoy making my life a living nightmare, don’t you?"

"Tyler I can think of a million ways to do that to you. Keep this shit up and you’ll find out soon."

"Oh my God!" Dr Nicholas waves his hands up in frustration. "Please will both of you calm down? You can still have the process done, Tyler. What I’m trying to tell you is you just have to wait a little longer until you’re healthier. We just need to get your iron up, okay? You are horribly anaemic. Having the process done now will put you at more risk."

Dr Nicholas’ words finally seem to sink in. Tyler flushes and takes a step back, his glare slowly fading. "You mean I can still go through with the abortion?" he asks, looking embarrassed.

The doctor nods. "Yes." He looks relieved. "We can still reschedule it as soon as you’re healthy."

I straighten my coat, trying to stifle the rage bubbling inside of me at Tyler’s disrespect. I’m thankful that Dr Nicholas was here because if he wasn’t, God knows what I would have done to the ungrateful little slob. I’m seeing red, and my blood is boiling. I shoot Tyler a surly look, and he swallows thickly.

"I...I’m sorry. It’s just... there have been so many delays."

"It’s alright." The doctor says, patting Tyler’s shoulder gently.

Is it though? It isn’t to me, Doc.

"I understand your frustration." The doctor says.

Tyler nods, glancing nervously beneath his lashes at me. I give him a death glare and he winces at it. I don’t comment because if I begin to talk right now, I won’t stop myself.

He turns his attention to Dr Nicholas again. "How long do you say I have to wait?"

"Three to six weeks." Dr Nicholas says.

"Oh God," Tyler wails, "That feels like forever."

Dr Nicholas grimaces as he watches Tyler apprehensively. "Sorry," he mumbles, probably afraid that Tyler might start throwing a tantrum again. "I’ll get you the supplements now. Have you been taking prenatal vitamins?"

Tyler shakes his head. "No." he rubs the back of his neck frustratedly.

Dr Nicholas shoots me an accusatory look.

"Why would I think of it? I’m not the father." I grumble.

"Because..." Dr Nicholas hesitates. "Because you are Tyler’s alpha. It’s your duty to take care of him and make sure he feels safe. He is pregnant. He needs to be taken care of."

Dr Nicholas’ lecturing tone makes my face heat. Since when does he criticize me? What the hell is going on today? First, Tyler throwing a tantrum and now Dr Nicholas thinking he can lecture me and say any shit he feels like to me now? I open my mouth to put the doctor in his place but before I can speak, Tyler interrupts.

"It’s not his fault, doc. Sasha has been taking care of me." Tyler glances at me. "I should have thought of taking the vitamins. It’s not his fault. I just didn’t think I needed the vitamins. I thought it wouldn’t be necessary since I don’t want to keep the baby."

"The vitamins are for your health, Tyler. Not the baby’s."

My rage tones down a bit when I realize that he is defending me. Not all, but some of it. Sometimes it slips me that Tyler is just as young as Jericho. Right now, he looks vulnerable, confused and lost. His expression touches something deep inside me.

"We can pick up the vitamins on our way home," I say grudgingly.

"No need," the doctor says pulling a chest of drawers and pulling out a bottle of prenatal vitamins and another smaller bottle then hands them to me. "Ensure he takes these with a meal. They’ll upset his stomach if he doesn’t eat first."

"Okay," I examine the bottles, trying to calm myself down. "I’ll make sure he eats before taking them."

"Make sure to take one of each tonight at dinner, Tyler. Then in three weeks, you can come back for a blood test. If your iron levels will be okay, we will do the procedure then."

"Okay."

Tyler seems a bit subdued now. He keeps stealing nervous glances at me. He knows me well, enough now to be worried. He knows that it was wrong of him to disrespect me in front of Dr Nicholas and that I’m not going to let it slide."

"Alright then, I’ll see you in three weeks, Tyler. It’s always a pleasure, Sasha." Dr Nicholas leaves the room like he can’t escape us fast enough.

Tyler removes the gown and dresses up quickly. None of us talks. We head for the elevator and once we get in, I hit the emergency stop button and a little whimper escapes Tyler. He clutches on the handicap rail so hard, as I move toward him.

"Tyler, what the hell was that about back there?"
