Chapter 61: Sorry Tyler, Not Today
Chapter 61: Sorry Tyler, Not Today
61.
(TYLER)
"What are you doing?" I glance at him bewildered a I try to pull away from him.
"Uhm...I’m not sure." His jaw hardens as his thick lashes flutter against his cheeks. "Does it kick yet?"
"No... not yet." His warm hand caresses my belly and I shiver. "I haven’t felt anything move yet."
He flicks his gaze to mine. "When do they begin to kick?"
I swallow thickly, noticing how his iris stands out in his beautiful eyes and the stubborn strands that fall on his face. If not for his shitty attitude, his nonchalance and selfishness, he’s truly the most breathtaking alpha I’ve seen. It’s hard to concentrate with him looking at me like this. "I’m...I’m not sure."
"Don’t tell me you haven’t looked into that yet. You haven’t looked for the stages of pregnancy?"
"No," I shake my head.
"Maybe it’s easier to stay disconnected when you don’t look into any of that stuff." He mumbles.
I grimace. "Yes."
He retracts his hand from his hand from my gown and goes back to sit in the chair. He doesn’t avert his gaze from me though, watching as I straighten the gown back in place. The way my cheeks feel hot tells me that my face is flushed. He’s probably enjoying that his touch gets me flustered.
The door opens and a fall lean alpha walks in. His glasses are pushed up in his head and he looks tired. He holds out a hand to Sasha. "Good to see you again, Sasha. I’m sorry to hear about your father. He will be missed. He was a respectable man."
"Thank you." Sasha nods. "I appreciate you fitting us in for today.
"Anything for the Adonis family." He nods then turns his attention to me. "You must be Tyler. I’m Dr. Nicholas."
I hold out a hand to him. "Hello."
"Did you wait for long? I’m sorry I’m having a crazy day." Dry. Nicholas says hurrying to one of the corners in the room. At the corner is a portable ultrasound machine. "Go ahead Tyler, lie down." He says, dragging the cart over.
I do as he says. The gown rustles as I lie on my back. I gaze at him awkwardly then finally ask. "What are you doing with the ultrasound machine? I want to get rid of this baby. Do I need an ultrasound for that?"
Dr Nicholas frowns. "I just want to figure out how far along the fetus is before we proceed with the procedure. I need to know the options will be working with."
"Oh."
The doctor hassles around, his movements quick and confident as he squirts some cool liquid on my stomach. I wince and he laughs gruffly. "I should have warned you about that, sorry."
"It’s alright."
"Congratulations on your wedding by the way." Dr. Nicholas says, smiling at me.
"Thanks," I respond with a wry smile. The congratulations sound sincere. He doesn’t know what our marriage is really like.
"Never once did I think that Sasha would settle down," he says, flicking the switch button of the machine. "I guess no one can fight love after all."
"I assume I can count on your discretion on this matter," Sasha says then clears his throat. "Nobody knows about this child."
"Of course." Dr Nicholas raises his gaze and glances at Sasha. "I respect my patients’ privacy and wouldn’t go blubbering about it to anyone. No one would judge you for taking this step anyway. I doubt any alpha would want to raise another alpha’s child."
I listen in silence waiting for Sasha to say that the abortion wasn’t his idea. When he doesn’t, part of me thinks it is because of his pride. Does he prefer if the doctors think this is all his idea? Why would he anyway? Or maybe he wants to appear to be in control as usual. He’d probably die first before letting anyone know he listens to his omega’s opinions.
"This is a hand-held Doppler." The doctor says as he slides the machine over my baby bump. "It sends and receives waves from inside your body, including the fetus. It amplifies the sounds and images. That’s how we get images of the baby."
I hear a swooshing sound when he shops speaking. I stiffen with dread and clench my fists. I’m sure I don’t want to hear the heartbeat of the fetus. I gaze at Dr. Nicholas, wondering if perhaps he is purposefully trying to influence me into having the baby. I can’t help wondering if he is secretly against abortion.
"Is that what I think it is?" Sasha asks, shifting in his chair.
"Yes, that’s the heartbeat." Dr Nicholas squints at the images on the screen. He lifts the plastic machine off my stomach and wipes my stomach clean. "Looks like you are about thirteen weeks. You can sit up now."
I sit up, clutching the gown with both my hands closed. Hearing the baby’s heartbeat has me feeling weird. I also feel some kind of resentment because part of me feels Dr Nicholas did that on purpose. He could have just looked at the image without telling Pius what was going on or letting us hear the heartbeat.
"So, when do I get the abortion?" I ask brusquely.
A knock on the door startles us just before Dr Nicholas can answer. He opens the door and takes a folder from the other nurse.
"Thanks, Nurse John." He turns to face us as he rifles through the documents. "Your blood test results are back, Tyler."
"Why take the blood test?" Sasha asks. "We already know the rabbit died." He says in a sardonic tone.
"Before we perform any surgical process, it is important that we know the health of an omega. It is important. He murmurs, looking slightly distracted as he scans the reports. His brows knit close together and he lets out a grunt.
I gaze at him, unsettled by the look on his face. I hope that whatever it is, it’s not bad news. I can’t stand carrying this pregnancy any longer. Not with Angelo on my neck and with Sasha asking questions. I can’t risk Sasha knowing the truth. With how curious he is lately; it is likely that he might go sniffing around and find out the truth about me and Angelo. What will I do then? No. This has to work. Whatever it is that’s making the doctor make that face, I hope to heavens it isn’t bad news.
"What’s the matter?" I ask bluntly, unable to ignore the look on his face any longer.
Dr Nicholas bites the inside of his cheek. "Just a minute." He holds up a finger.
My stomach churns as I grapple with the possibilities. My gaze meets Sasha’s. He is unbothered and emotionless as usual. I can’t shake the feeling that something isn’t okay. As the doctor’s brows knit more, my suspicions become more dire and I feel terrified.
He finally looks up at Sasha. "We might have a problem." He grimaces and then closes the folder.
"What problem?" Sasha asks.
"Yeah, what kind?" I echo as knots form in the pit of my stomach.
Dr Nicholas meets my gaze looking somewhat apologetic. "The procedure can’t be performed today."
