Chapter 280: Chapter 280: I Want to Give You a Surprise
Upon hearing the words "female corpse," Yan Qianyi’s hand holding the chopsticks trembled.
"I’ll be right over!"
"Okay, I’m waiting for you at the school’s main entrance."
After hanging up the call, Yan Qianyi stood up hurriedly and left.
Xue Xiaoguang and Yun Mu quickly abandoned their chopsticks to follow.
Xue Xiaoguang asked anxiously, "Sis, what happened? Is there news about Chu Hua?"
"Mai Hunter said the police found a female corpse that resembles Chu Hua. He wants me to come with him to identify the body."
"We’re coming with you!" declared Xue Xiaoguang.
The three arrived at the school gate and saw Mai Hunter’s car parked there.
Seeing Xue Xiaoguang and Yun Mu, Mai Hunter asked, "What are you two coming for? Vick will complain again that I’ve stolen his students."
Both Xue Xiaoguang and Yun Mu had standout abilities among the new students, and Vick highly valued the pair.
He had been so focused on Yan Qianyi back then that he forgot to recruit them as well, giving Vick an easy advantage.
Yun Mu spoke calmly, "Teacher, my special ability now allows me not only to predict the future but also to know past events. If the victim’s face is unrecognizable, perhaps I could see what happened to her through the body."
"I know, Vick has already boasted to me about you. But right now, you can only sense what happened a minute before. The police initially assessed that the female corpse had been dead for over ten hours. You probably won’t be able to discern anything," Mai Hunter replied.
"Please, just let me try," Yun Mu insisted.
"Fine," Mai Hunter acquiesced before turning to Xue Xiaoguang. "And what help could you possibly offer?"
"I..." Xue Xiaoguang was too worried to articulate his thoughts.
He was completely befuddled upon hearing that the corpse might be Yan Chuhua.
Yan Qianyi interjected, "Teacher, please bring them along. They’ve spent just as much time with Chu Hua as I have."
Since all three lived on campus, they spent every day together during holidays.
"Alright, alright, everybody get in the car quickly; we don’t want to waste time," Mai Hunter urged.
On the way, Yun Mu asked, "Teacher, Chu Hua’s personal system contains her DNA information. Couldn’t the police have checked the DNA? Why call you for identification?"
Mai Hunter glanced at Yun Mu through the rearview mirror.
This young man was calm and intelligent when faced with situations—a promising candidate.
If he was not mistaken, this young man must have been planted in the Military Academy by some significant figure.
Mai Hunter explained, "The DNA that came back from Chu Hua’s test was not actually her own. It belonged to someone who died several years ago."
Xue Xiaoguang exclaimed in surprise, "Could there be an error in the personal system?"
Yan Qianyi remained silent.
Normally, a personal system would have accurate information, and such low-level mistakes were impossible.
But Yan Chuhua’s personal system was forged, so naturally, all the information in it was false.
Mai Hunter did not respond.
Yun Mu fell silent as well, turning his gaze out the window, already roughly guessing something.
Only Xue Xiaoguang was still utterly bewildered, complaining about the system’s low-level error.
Arriving at the police station and stopping outside the mortuary, Xue Xiaoguang suddenly halted.
His eyes, now red-rimmed, turned toward Yan Qianyi, "Sis, what if it truly is Chu Hua?"
Yan Qianyi didn’t speak; she had been silent the entire trip, silently praying it wasn’t Yan Chuhua.
Yun Mu was the first to walk in.
"He’s so calm," Xue Xiaoguang remarked, watching Yun Mu’s retreating figure.
In the few months he’d known him, he never saw Yun Mu rush or get heated about anything; he was always so composed.
Once everyone had entered, the forensic doctor lifted the white cloth off the female corpse.
The female corpse had been soaked in water overnight, bloating her entire body, rendering her face unrecognizable, an especially horrifying sight.
Xue Xiaoguang and Mai Hunter couldn’t bear to look and averted their heads subconsciously.
Only Yun Mu and Yan Qianyi kept their gaze fixed on the female corpse.
Yan Qianyi even leaned in closer to inspect it carefully.
She had once been a forensic doctor in the otherworld, and had seen corpses far more grisly than this one.
This female corpse was still relatively intact.
Xue Xiaoguang opened one eye and peeked over, still unable to bring herself to look closely.
"Sis, what do you think? Do you recognize her? It’s not Chu Hua, is it?"
Yan Qianyi and Yun Mu, standing on the opposite side, exchanged glances, a slight smile spreading across their lips.
Xue Xiaoguang finally mustered the courage to come closer, only to be pulled away by Yan Qianyi, "Don’t look, it’s not Chu Hua."
Xue Xiaoguang let out a long sigh of relief, clasped her hands together and bowed to the ceiling, "Thank heavens, thank heavens."
After leaving the police station, everyone relaxed somewhat.
Not having seen Yan Chuhua’s body for another day was good news to them.
That evening, when Yan Qianyi returned home, she was greeted by the smell of beef coming from the kitchen.
Normally at this time, she would rush into the kitchen to see what delicious food Aunt Xue had made.
But now she had no appetite at all.
She collapsed on the living room sofa, her gaze empty as she stared at the towering ceiling.
"Are you very tired today?" Mu Yunlie’s voice came.
Yan Qianyi blinked and turned to see that he was already by her side, not knowing when he had appeared.
She quickly stood up and threw herself into his arms, hugging his waist tightly.
In front of Xue Xiaoguang and Yun Mu, she always remained calm, but her heart was fraught with worry for Yan Chuhua.
These past few nights, she had dreamt of Chu Hua every night.
Now, in the presence of Mu Yunlie, she suddenly didn’t want to pretend anymore.
Mu Yunlie gently rubbed her head and stayed silent, simply letting her hold him.
After a moment, Yan Qianyi spoke up, "Why didn’t you let me know before you came back?"
"I wanted to surprise you, but it seems the effect wasn’t as good as I’d hoped."
"Miss, the son-in-law has brought some Wagyu beef; it’ll be ready to eat soon."
Aunt Xue came out of the kitchen, saw the two people hugging each other, and quickly retreated back.
Yan Qianyi’s head was still buried in Mu Yunlie’s abdomen.
Holding him now, feeling his warmth and breath, her heart finally eased a little.
Mu Yunlie said, "I already know about Yan Chuhua."
Yan Qianyi looked up at him, "How did you find out?"
"Have you forgotten? I’m also a teacher at the Federation Military Academy."
In fact, Yun Mu had told Vice Officer Pei, who then reported it to him.
Before leaving, he had specifically asked Vice Officer Pei to inform Yun Mu that everything that happened around her these days, no matter how trivial, was to be reported every day.
Yan Qianyi had almost forgotten that Mu Yunlie was a teacher at the Federation Military Academy, and was even the substitute teacher for their class.
Mainly because he seldom attended classes, his name wasn’t even on the schedule.
"Don’t worry too much; I’ve already sent someone to investigate," Mu Yunlie said.
Yan Qianyi shook her head urgently, "No need! You... you have your own matters to attend to, there’s no need for trouble; it’s better left to the police."
After all, Mu Yunlie was a military man, and if he found out that Chu Hua really was a military spy, given his stoic nature, he certainly wouldn’t turn a blind eye for personal feelings as Teacher Mai Hunter would.
