Chapter 93: Each person’s specialty
After knocking away the weapon, I went to finish this trainee off.
After all, pain was a good teacher.
Only before I could actually swing my sword at that person, there was another trainee that charged forward.
Since they wanted to take the pain on behalf of this person, then I would let them.
But when I swung out at that person, I was caught off guard by what they did.
I was able to react in the end and block their attack, but I couldn’t believe what they had just done.
After all, they just copied the move that I had done.
In fact, it could even be said that they had done it better than I had since they had added an extra twist of their hand when they used that move against me. That created a second curve to the blade that served to confuse the one that was attacking.
Of course, even though they had copied my move and improved on it...
"Clang."
"Ah!"
There was still the matter of the difference in physique.
Technique was one thing, but it was a problem if they didn’t have the power to back it up. Technique could only make up for so much, one had to still have the physique to back it up to use it properly.
And she didn’t have it.
This girl was one of the ones that Mia had brought with her, she was also one of the captives that I had saved from Shaka.
Based on the way that she moved, it was clear that she was new to using the sword. However, she had also copied the technique that I had only used once.
To copy that technique and even put a twist onto it after just seeing it once, there was no doubt that this was talent.
If she was so talented, why did no one ever notice this before?
Well, it was most likely because wherever she came from wasn’t a place where women using swords was common. At the same time, she had been treated as merchandise by Shaka’s group, so it wasn’t as if they cared about her skills with the sword.
Even now, if it wasn’t for the fact that Vanessa had made that suggestion about trying something else, I wouldn’t have noticed her talent either.
But I didn’t actually reflect on this.
After all, this could just be a one time thing rather than everyone having some kind of secret talent.
At the same time, it could just be that she had gotten lucky...
Though I didn’t believe that this was the case.
So to test her, I used a different move against her. But as I was using this new technique, I made sure to hold back enough that she would be able to dodge it.
While she was dodging it, I could even see the way that she was looking at my blade. It was clear that she was following the path of my blade as she was dodging my attacks.
That kind of ability wasn’t something that just anyone had.
This was the kind of ability that came with the natural abilities that one gained when they were born.
As such, this was pure talent.
I couldn’t help feeling a bit excited seeing her demonstrate this kind of talent and I even wanted to see where her limit would be. That was why I started using different techniques against this girl in an attempt to push her out of her shell.
She quickly followed all of the techniques that I demonstrated and even brought some of them to a new level.
There were some that she couldn’t replicate properly, but that was more because she was lacking in strength to use those techniques.
Other than that, she seemed to be following all of the other techniques that I demonstrated.
After a while though...
"Crack."
I finally stopped the training session as I swung down hard at her sword.
There was no technique here, it was just pure power. It was an overwhelming kind of power that she couldn’t keep up with even if she had the techniques that she stole from me.
So in the end, the sword was cut in half by me.
Once I was done, I said, "Alright, that’s enough out of you. You can go rest and think about what you learned today."
The girl seemed a bit disappointed, but she also gave a nod to show she understood before walking off to the side. As she was walking, it was almost as if she was in a daze.
It was clear that she was going over everything that she had seen today and was reviewing it properly.
I shook my head with a faint smile before turning my head to look at the other trainees.
They had been waiting on the side because they couldn’t find a single opening for them to get involved. At the same time, they had been completely mesmerized by the techniques that had been used during the sword fight.
I could see that there were a few that seemed to have the same look as the girl, but they didn’t seem like they were as deeply entranced as she had been. That just went to show that they did have talent, but they weren’t as talented as her.
Instead of using the sword again, I tossed it to the side and picked up one of the spears from the weapon rack before pointing it at the trainees.
Then with a smile, I said, "Here I come."
All of them revealed serious looks as they prepared for my assault.
But while I charged forward, I paid close attention to their eyes as they stared at me. I was waiting to see if there was anyone special among them that could follow my spear just like the girl followed my sword.
Otherwise, there was no reason for me to switch to the spear in the first place.
In the end, I wasn’t disappointed.
