Chapter 104: What to do?
Chapter 104: What to do?
"You’re saying that the Iron Fist Gang is the one that’s after this town?" Vanessa asked in a shocked voice.
The faces of the others at the table didn’t seem good as well when they heard this.
After all, the Iron Fist Gang was quite the famous group in this wilderness.
They had demonstrated that they clearly were not people to mess with after all of the different things that they’ve done. As such, just hearing that they were involved was enough to make people afraid.
But at the same time, there were traces of doubts that were in their eyes.
It wasn’t that they were doubting what I said, it was more that they were wondering how I had gotten this information.
After all, this kind of information wasn’t something that could be obtained that easily.
When they looked at me like this, I just said, "I have some friends from my wandering mercenary days that I got this information from."
"Oh..."
It was clear that they had more questions that they wanted to ask, but they held themselves back out of respect for me.
Still, that didn’t mean that the main issue was solved.
"The Iron Fist Gang, huh?" One of the shop owners suddenly spoke in a voice that made it clear that there was a story behind him.
We all looked at him and waited to see what he would say, but it didn’t seem like he was going to say anything.
"If you’re going to do this, you have to at least finish what you started!" That was what all of us thought, but it didn’t seem like this shop owner was about to say anything.
So in the end, I said, "I know that it might seem bleak right now, but it isn’t as if there’s nothing that we can do. Even if the Iron Fist Gang is strong, that doesn’t mean that they’re invincible."
Everyone shook their heads when they heard this.
Indeed it wasn’t as if the Iron Fist Gang was invincible, but when compared to their town...
Well, there was just too much of a difference in power between the two sides.
It’s almost as if it was a David and Goliath situation.
But in the end, David had been able to take down Goliath with his trusty sling.
No one said anything as they waited for me to continue since they could tell that I had some kind of idea.
"It’s a divide and conquer strategy."
"How do you want to do that when we don’t even have enough people in the first place? It’s not as if we have as many people as the Iron Fist Gang does and we have even fewer elites than they do. Even if you’re strong, are you sure that you’ll be able to defeat the leader of the Iron Fist Gang." Vanessa pointed out what everyone was thinking.
I gave a simple nod as if I was agreeing with her, but then I said, "I never said that it would be us that would be going up against them."
When they heard this, they looked at me with confused looks on their faces.
After all, it wasn’t as if there was anyone that would actually dare go against the Iron Fist Gang in this wilderness unless there was a good reason. And as far as anyone was concerned, saving this town certainly wasn’t a good reason.
If the Iron Fist Gang wanted this town, then there was little that others could do to stop them.
"What if there was a rumour that there was a treasure that the Iron Fist Gang was hiding."
Everyone still had the same look of doubt that was on their faces when they heard this.
After all, even if they started a rumour, would anyone actually believe that rumour?
There was no basis for it, so it wasn’t as if people would fall for it that easily.
I could see the way that they were looking at me and could guess what they were thinking, so I said, "I have a special way of doing this if you will believe me. I promise that I’ll be able to turn several different factions against the Iron Fist Squad like this."
Everyone at the table seemed surprised to hear this, but eventually they all nodded to show that they agreed with my plan.
But after they agreed, I did have to add, "This is only a temporary measure. It will put pressure on them to make them forget about us for now, but that pressure will eventually fade when people find that there is no treasure. When that time comes, they will come for us once more."
When I stopped, I looked around at everyone that was at this table and said, "If you want to leave town now, I won’t blame you."
Everyone deeply knitted their brows and looked at each other when they heard this.
It was as if they were all waiting for one person to take the first step and leave, but there wasn’t a single person that stood up in the end.
I added, "There’s no need to feel hesitant, we won’t blame you if you choose to leave. In fact, it would be the smart choice since it will be dangerous from now on."
But even then, it didn’t seem like any of them were planning to leave.
Instead, it seemed like the tense looks on their faces seemed to relax before they said, "You can’t chase us out. We already decided that we would live in this place, so we’ll stay here until the end."
Once one of them said this, the rest of them all seemed to echo this.
The one that spoke first though was the same person that had reacted to the Iron Fist Gang earlier.
This was the one person that clearly had some kind of story with the Iron Fist Gang.
Still, I said, "It’ll be tough, but we’ll find a way through this disaster and make our town stronger."
