Chapter 83: The Werewolfess

Chapter Eighty-Three – The Werewolfess

"A beaten-up werewolf? Do you know what it means?"

Laurel frowned at Sorren. Wasn’t it obvious they needed to protect the girl? Or was there anything more to it?

When she threw up all her food, she had noticed the girl looking at her. She was in so much pain with the way she limped towards her.

And being werewolf as well, even if the girl couldn’t sense it, Laurel wanted to protect her.

"She was treated like that because she’s werewolf, right?" Laurel asked. That’d be how she’d be treated if she wasn’t wearing the charm. Which was really sad.

"It’s more complicated than that." Sorren replied, he turned to the girl. "She’s the Lycan Prince’s property."

Property? Laurel grew livid. "Sorren, you didn’t just—"

"I mean," Sorren sighed. "The Prince kidnaps werewolves and do some stuff to them. She might be a victim."

The girl whimpered as if reminded of her ordeal, Laurel adjusted the shawl on her body. "I won’t let it continue."

"His hatred runs deep." Sorren added. "He wants to totally eradicate werewolves. Can you do anything to stop him?"

Laurel’s determined expression faded slightly. How could she do something to stop a Lycan Prince from killing she and her kind?

She couldn’t even break Delta rank.

She looked down. "I’m still helping the girl." She turned to Sorren. "I’m not telling you to help me but don’t stop me—"

"Why will I waste my time?" but then Sorren smirked as he untied the skirt-like garment on his waist and threw it on the girl. "It depends on how long you’re able to hide her, princess, before..." He became serious. "....you both are caught."

The princess’ heart skipped a beat. Indeed hiding the girl meant endangering herself, and she was also a werewolf, it wasn’t very advisable.

But Laurel had a hidden smirk. The ball was too crowded for anyone to catch a Lycan or werewolf scent. Which meant even without the charm on her, she could waltz around and no one might know unless they focus on her.

It would be harder to hide the girl since her rogue scent was pungent, but Laurel had made her mind up.

Perhaps, she should give the girl the charm, that could cover the rogue scent too. "All things have high risk, and high gain. I’m still doing it."

Sorren shrugged. The one who’d frantically run to rescue her if things go wrong, will be her mate not him. "Do as you like. Just don’t bother me."

Laurel nodded firmly, she turned to the girl but didn’t find her behind her. Sorren paused when the werewolfess came before him. He stepped back. "What is it?"

Laurel watched them before smiling. "Ah, maybe she’s surprised by your looks."

A frown came to Sorren’s lips and he leaned towards the girl. "And how do I look?"

Was he suddenly triggered by that? Laurel tapped Sorren. "In a good way, in a good way."

He released the girl. "Of course, I knew it’s in a good way. She’d have needed her eyes checked otherwise." He walked past the girl.

The girl kept staring and Laurel blocked her line of sight. "Don’t even think about. He’s sort of psycho who’s waiting on an unborn child. Let’s figure how to get you help first."

She took her hand under her gown and carefully untied the charm. She held unto it, feeling the stone inside the small cloth it was in.

Should she hold unto it in her hand while holding the girl? It was said it would mask the wearer but if two held it, would it mask them both?

"Laurel, don’t get into trouble because of a girl you don’t know. It’s nice to help her but we don’t know what has been done to her." Elam warned. "If she’s property—"

"Elma." Laurel closed her eyes momentarily. "No one is anyone’s property. "We are all children of the moon goddess. Lycans. Werewolves. Rogues of all kind."

She’d never claim to be a saint and she knew rogues and evildoers should be killed when they pose a threat, but not even her father had slaves as properties.

The maids in the palace were victims of war and were conquered but their condition was working in the palace for food and shelter.

They could still get married, go to market, run in the forest. They were free. Many also got jobs as servants in restaurants.

Like Lena’s brother, Marcus, who joined her father’s warriors. They were never seen as property. They got paid in gold or basic amenities somehow.

Laurel helped tie the skirt-like garment on the girl’s waist. "In all, Elma. We are helping this girl with everything we got. I’d be careful to know when to let go though."

There was clapping and cheers in the ballroom and Laurel hurried inside, to the middle of the hall. She pulled the werewolf girl along. The charm was between them.

There was a lean man who was about to speak.

"We thank everyone who came to another Lycan Packs Meeting. Thank you very much." He bowed.

The guests clapped in response. Laurel looked around for Sorren or Stefan. Those two had disappeared again.

"Now, the King has a special announcement to make!" The man turned to a door. "A declaration that would change our Kingdom."

Some guests whispered, wondering what important declaration was to be made. While some smiled, like they already knew.

The door opened and Laurel got her first glimpse of the King. He was supposed to be the father of the adorable Lycan Prince, right?

He had dark hair, with some graying at the temples, and his eyes were a piercing green. They were cold and calculating, and glazed over every one of the guests.

Laurel felt the werewolfess hold unto her tightly. She felt it too. How intimidating and dreadful the King’s aura was. He was every inch a powerful Lycan Alpha King.

But then the King smiled and Laurel saw the striking resemblance between him and his son who always had some kind of smile on his face. A psychotic brand.

The King was bulkier than his son but dressed in a richly embroidered tunic and breeches, with a sword at his hip, he sort of look like a young Lycan again.

Laurel unconsciously smiled. The King reminded her of her father, except her father never smiled.

"Welcome! Future! Of! High! Moon! Kingdom!!"

There were loud cheers as the guests, especially the females officials, turned to screaming and fangirling teens.

Laurel backed away in fright. Was this the effect the King had over his people? Her father could never pull that off.

"Yes! Yes!!" the King laughed. "Now, for the highlight of this event! Some of you already know what it is! I bring you THE NEXT KING OF HIGH MOON KINGDOM!!"
