Chapter Eighty-One – Tasty Snacks
Laurel tapped her side, where the charm was positioned under her dress. It was still in place. She had noticed the attractive supposed Lycan Prince move towards her.
While he wouldn’t know her status or whether she was Lycan, she could feel how powerful he was.
The only thing she couldn’t feel when with the charm was the mate bond.
Still, the Lycan Prince should only be as strong as the Lycans in her life – which was still frightening strong so she was really grateful when he left to Sorren instead.
The Prince was attractive by Laurel’s terms. Well, all the top ranking Lycans she’d see were attractive. It made her wonder if there was a beauty that came with power.
Maybe she would look forward to it as she got stronger.
She peeked towards the window where the Lycan Prince had cornered to. He had a childish demeanor mixed with the dread he emitted, even a skip was in his steps.
With the adorable face, he looked like he had never hurt anyone. Laurel eyes dimmed. But surely, that wasn’t true. He’d be the devil in disguise.
Like Sorren, who masked how mischievous he was with an innocent and godly beauty. She remembered he had gone to the window to stare at the moon.
Laurel chuckled. Perhaps he dressed that way to seduce the moon goddess. "Well, I wish him luck. He did say the one meant for him hadn’t been born." she left the table.
Since she was protected by the charm, she’d fearlessly move freely, taking a snack from each buffet table.
This was another ball, like the last one which was the prologue to her sad life, she wanted to make this ball a little more memorable.
So it became an adventure, from table to table, picking attractive looking delicacies and putting them in her mouth to be blessed by a wonderful taste.
Some officials begun taking notice of the beauty in a pink dress eating happily and holding her cheeks. The cooks that refilled were happy seeing her enjoying their work.
"This...This is—" Laurel took another bite. "Heaven!"
A heart shaped cookie that tasted of all good things. It looked like apple was the base of it’s creation and along with other fruits that must be native to the Lycans.
As her eyes darted to another table, she noticed a familiar face. Her hands froze. Wasn’t it the Zara girl?
Other ladies were surely envious of her with how well her curves fit the tight long red dress she was in. Her hair fell flawlessly against her shoulders and once again, she was surrounded by men.
Laurel turned away subtly and went back to the table she just left. Seeing a Beta’s daughter in an inn was different than meeting her in an official ball.
She didn’t want Zara prying into her life and asking her questions she didn’t want to answer.
Stepping back to go further away from Zara, Laurel hit someone. She turned around, with puppy dog eyes.
"Goddess, let it not be an official!" she cried internally.
"Oh, I’m sorry, pretty lady."
Laurel stared at his eyes for long, before smiling, "Sure. I mean— I was the one who bumped into you. I’m sorry."
The young Lycan bowed before moving away.
Laurel’s eyes followed him. There was no doubt about it. He was a handsome man but two things struck her. His oddly red eyes. And the familiar feel.
She remembered the Bloody Moon Pack that would be coming under the Lycan Alpha King.
Why did she feel the man was connected to them? Where had she seen or heard about them before?
It was surely not from her father because he never made friends with Lycans. Still Bloody Moon Pack sounded really familiar and safe to her.
Laurel’s hand went to her face, they were still heated up from making eye contact with yet another attractive Lycan. "Ah, I need to protect my eyes." She chuckled.
She tried to find him again. He paced about irregularly, making her wonder if he was lost. Her smile fell as she watched him more attentively.
Those movements.
Moving behind guards.
Counting the guests.
They reminded her of someone. Stefan.
Those movements mirrored one she saw Stefan doing on the day that her pack got raided and the Alphas killed!
She couldn’t forget it because it was the first time she saw her mate and she regretted not calling her father’s attention to the man, it would’ve at least stopped the raid.
So this attractive young Lycan must be after the same thing, counting the guards and observing the guests. Was he about to crash this ball?
Laurel felt Elma getting closer and her panic increased. The ball will end in another traumatizing note, wouldn’t it?
What should she do? What if she was wrong and the Lycan was lost and just moving aimlessly?
"Laurel, calm down. Why do you even care if this ball gets crashed?!" Elma shut her down.
Laurel paused, before rushing to the tables of delicious snacks. She hurried to them and stuffed a lot of them into her mouth.
Truly, she shouldn’t care what happened here. All she had to do was warn the people she came with, Stefan and Sorren. But would they believe her?
"Sorren would, if we show him the Lycan’s movements. Stefan too, after all that was how he sneaked in."
Laurel nodded before realizing, she looked at the food. She found the man close to the table of snacks were everyone was taking a bite from.
If he planned to crash the ball, could it be he placed something in the food? That was what Stefan did then. She held her stomach. She didn’t feel weird yet.
"Elma..." Laurel sniffed. "I think I need to throw out everything I just ate and that’s very painful."
Elma sighed at her human. "Then throw it out to be safe. Why were you even eating everything?"
Laurel looked around for an exit.
She found one and sped past the door. Gagging, she threw out everything in her stomach. She ran back inside to take water then she ran out, gurgled and spat out.
"These tasty snacks." She seethed. "I would avenge you."
