Chapter Seventy-Six – Flowers

"W-Why... Why did you push me?" the lady had a crying tone. Laurel stared at her as she left the ground.

Wasn’t a Beta daughter some kind of official? Like a Beta herself? But Laurel remembered that Frida said she wasn’t Beta ranked even if her father was a Beta.

So maybe the Lady before her wasn’t a Beta ranked Lycan. Still, she should surely be a powerful lycan.

Laurel tilted her head. Why didn’t she feel tensed around her then? And what kind of Beta daughter moaned out loud in public?

Ignoring everything, Laurel focused on the food before her. It was definitely worth the walk from the courtyard to the inn. The lady sat besides her, looking intently at her.

"I know all the beautiful girls in this place. Who are you?"

She called her beautiful? Laurel stuffed her mouth with food, to stop herself from smiling. "I’m new. I’m Laurel."

"Ah." The lady fell on her. "Such a pretty name. I’m Zara."

Was she also drunk? Laurel tried to help her up. She looked at the innkeeper for help but he smiled. "She’s drunk. Let her fall and she’d be snapped back to reality."

That was mean. Laurel left her chair and kept the lady’s head on the cabinet.

She returned to the food and finished. "It’s impeccable, and honestly, I think the hot peppery taste gives it a majestic feel. You did a good job for your first try."

The innkeeper beamed with pride, he rubbed his neck. "It took many tries actually. Thanks a lot."

Laurel nodded, writing down her report. Zara raised her head from the cabinet, like she just woke up from sleep. Laurel bowed at the innkeeper before rushing out.

"Huh? Wait—" Zara fell as she tried to hold Laurel.

Laurel looked at the lady pitifully then zoomed off. She had no time to deal with drunken madness.

It took a lot for a wolf to be drunk so the lady must have forced herself to be drunk, just to be problematic.

Laurel smiled. Also, she needed to see lots of other places before it got to evening.

A sound of a familiar voice came to her ears, making Elma to get closer to the surface. That was their mate. Laurel wanted to walk past but then she saw another flower shop.

They seemed to be lots of flower shops close to the Lycan King’s palace, and Laurel had been cursing herself for being so poor that she couldn’t afford any.

Still, asking Stefan for money would be identical to him buying it for her. And she didn’t want him to. She saw a young man buying a flower for a young lady.

She hurried to them. "Excuse me, please, could you get this one for me? I have no money."

The couple stared at her, then the lady smiled, turning to the man. "No problem, dear. You can have it."

Laurel smiled at how nice they were. The couple paid and walked away, hands in hands away.

Laurel inhaled the addicting scent of the flower till her lungs could no longer expand. It’s been a while since she was into her flower obsession.

"I should head back to the courtyard before I get lost." Laurel sighed, looking at the distance she didn’t explore. She wasn’t sure what would happen after the meeting.

Would Stefan return to celebrate officially joining the Lycan Kingdom or he’d stay back for some time out. Either ways, she’d be busy serving him when the time came. Only today did she have the chance to walk around, and only because she was with the charm that masked her identity.

"Laurel?"

He found her? Laurel shoulders fell. She had to be away from him or else he’d realize he couldn’t get her scent. "I-I’m not Laurel." She turned, returning to the courtyard.

And the end of her adventure finally came.

Stefan watched her leave, wondering how she came that far in the first place. She looked really different when her hair was down, he noticed.

It made his wolf excited but they both knew there was nothing else he could do with the excitement. He turned back to where he walked out from.

An old man invited him for tea, saying he was a friend of his father, late Alpha Eli.

Stefan didn’t recognized him but the old man insisted, mentioning names of his family members. He also joked that his daughter was still single to marry the pretty prince Sorren. He also mentioned the orphaned baby Sigma.

Stefan guessed that the man knew his father before the raid that destroyed the kingdom. The talk was short and the man wished him luck but it was like he’d more to say.

A sigh left Stefan, he slowly walked back to the courtyard. Even if he finally got revenge for the destruction of the kingdom and the lives lost, he wasn’t still happy.

He couldn’t be happy when a mate, the second thing he fiercely desired after getting revenge, came to him but in the form of his enemy’s daughter that he can’t accept.

His eyes were down and he bumped into a man. "My apolo—" he looked up. His eyelids lowered and he continued. "You should watch your step."

He had to meet that fool, the one who attacked his pack and left the wolfsbane mark on him. He was even looking better than before, it made Stefan infuriated.

But it seemed the Lycan didn’t recognize him, or was preoccupied with his own thoughts. The Lycan’s eyes were on the flower shop, staring at the colorful flowers.

"Could that pretty girl be a guest for the Lycan Meeting tomorrow? She came to take the food cart, right?" the Lycan mouthed. "Would she like flowers?"

Pretty girl? Guest? Flowers? Stefan clicked his tongue, walking away. But by any chance, he wondered, could it be Laurel the Lycan spoke of?

Apart from Black Claws, and another pack that joined early that year, there were no other new Lycan Pack attending the meeting.

"Sorren!" Stefan called, as he reached the courtyard. He caught sight of the food cart in the room.

His brother peeked out of his room. "Why announce your presence like you left a wife to welcome you home?"

Stefan ignored him, pointing at the cart. "Did Laurel go to the kitchen to bring that? Do you know if anyone saw her?" his eyebrows furrowed.

Sorren wasn’t sure why he was displeased but he nodded. "Hmm. She brought it from the kitchen."

He removed the part where the Lycan saw her, unknown to him Stefan was already thinking so.

"So it was my mate the despicable Lycan wants to give flowers to?" Kai seethed. Stefan had a flat expression, staring at the cart with mixed emotions.
