Chapter Forty-Two – Saving Him
There was a commotion at the maid quarters. The guards weren’t at the entrance so Laurel rushed inside, searching for Lisa but it didn’t seem any maid was involved.
The maids she’d been with ran to her as they saw her walk in. One of them noticed the tears in her eyes. "Did you get punished, your highness. We’re sorry for leaving you behind. W-We got scared."
Laurel exhaled, wiping the tears off. "No problem." She left them and searched for Valkyrie. Why were they guards rummaging their quarters. What did they want?
She opened her room door but someone pulled in, then the door was shut. "Frida?" she frowned at who pulled her. Her eyes went to the tall man by Frida’s side, she gasped. "Marcus?"
Frida placed a finger on her lips. "Bitch, shut up, or the guards will hear you. We need to get him out of here or he’d die. He had come looking for you..."
"Princess Laurel!" Marcus enveloped Laurel in a hug.
Laurel was dumb struck. Marcus was alive? Lena’s older brother was alive? He survived the massacre of the Green Valleys warriors. It gave Laurel so much joy than she’d have thought. She hugged Marcus back.
"Oh okay..." Frida rolled her eyes. "After, the touching reunion, can you help me think of a way to get him out of here? Because he can be a lead to get me out of here."
Laurel released Marcus. "Get you out of here?" she asked Frida. "You are a Beta wolf, right?"
"Not yet. Do you think ranks are inherited? Oh, I mean look at you, an Alpha’s daughter." Fria scoffed. Marcus frowned. "Kindly watch your words, Lady Frida."
Frida raised a brow. "Wow, so you’re loyalty is now to her when I saved your ass by keeping you here?"
"Well, this is my room too so..." Laurel shrugged, turning away from the two, who kept on arguing. Marcus being alive was a good plus. Laurel smirked. He trained under the Beta so was close to Frida too.
At least, Frida would cooperate with her till he was out of there. Marcus was close to Laurel because of his sister, Lena. Laurel wondered if he knew she was killed.
"We might need to use force along the way." Laurel raised her head up. She didn’t fear using force, after all, all the people she cared about were at this maid quarters.
Frida walked to her. "You have a plan? That was fast."
Could she stop underestimating her? Laurel shook her head and went towards her window. "Marcus, you wouldn’t mind wearing a dress, would you?"
There was silence before Frida began cackling. Marcus’s face was red from the embarrassment he was about to bestow on himself. "I don’t mind, Princess Laurel."
Laurel ignored Frida’s reaction and nodded, leaving her room to the other maids’ room. If she could dress Marcus as a lady and lead him outside the maid quarters, then everything will be half done from there.
She took a big dress from the once she took from her tower room, she returned to Frida and Marcus and explained her plan to them.
Frida was able to dress Marcus up like a lady and Laurel even lend her lip ointment and hair pins. It was time to go.
Laurel peeped from the window and saw there was still no guard keeping watch. She jumped down, the two jumped down with her.
"If you’re seen by a warrior, tell them you’re from the man of Damancas and you’re to see Prince Sorren." Laurel said. "On the unlikely scenario that you’re seen by an official, tell them that you are a servant girl to Master Darren who came to send a letter to Prince Sorren but you gave it to a maid to deliver since you couldn’t find the Prince, the maid will be me or Frida or just say you don’t know the maid."
Frida and Marcus looked unsure, making Elma sigh. Her Laurel was rambling on like when she spoke with Beta Cade.
"Why should we involve Prince Sorren?" Frida asked.
"Because he’s one person that the Alpha, Beta and Delta won’t want to annoy. They usually ignore any matter as long as his name has been mentioned." Laurel explained.
Frida looked impressed. "No wonder you used his name with that Beta Cade case. You should’ve said it sooner."
Laurel stared at her. What did she plan to do with the information? They slowly walked to the gate.
The maid quarters sat close to the entrance and apart from the guards there, there was almost no protection for the maids, because no one cared about their fate.
This’ll be used for their good now. Marcus walked with agitated steps because his life was on the line. But Frida held him back. "Girls don’t walk like that. Sway your hips."
Laurel chuckled but her face fell when she sighted him. Her shoulders slumped and she groaned. Of course, she should have made provision for this scenario.
Frida froze, keeping Marcus behind her. "It’s that Sorren?" she’d never seen him before but guessed it would be him because his features were beautiful as the maids said.
"Yeah, wait..." Laurel walked towards him. Sorren was by the gate, it looked like he was waiting for someone.
It’d be impossible to make him leave so all that was left would be tricking him into letting Marcus pass. But then again, that was almost impossible.
"Um... Sorren... Prince Sorren." she corrected with a smile. He looked up from the book he was reading. "You should be in your quarters, shouldn’t you?"
He seemed like he was in a bad mood. Laurel cleared her throat, her brain thinking of the next words that’d leave her lips. Words that’d sound right. She didn’t want to ramble.
"Are you waiting for someone here?" that question would take them no where but it was all she could think of. Could she get him to leave, or to overlook who’d be passing by?
"Uh, my brother bought an expired item from Jappongi. I sent a guard to return it and he won’t be back till midnight. I’d replace him till then." He said causally.
Laurel was quiet. She must have heard wrongly. Jappongi was too far to go and get back from before midnight. And worse, he would be waiting there till midnight.
The case couldn’t get worse. "While you are here, how about... we leave here so you can train me! We never get to see each other so I thought we should train, you know."
If he succumbed and left the entrance then Marcus could run. It’s her last plan. One she wasn’t sure how he’d react to. Frida and Marcus gave themselves questioning looks.
